Title:
The Bounce Back
The Bounce Back
Competitor:
Worst Generation
Worst Generation
Firstly, I want to say the setting was there for me and I know people go nuts for description used to build the scene, like explaining wood grain creaking beneath feet or a fly buzzing in a smoldering hot apartment looking to claim it’s well deserved garbage feast from the overflowing trash can that hasn’t been emptied in weeks… Or whatever way you want to set a scene, I liked Worst Generation’s approach, especially when we have word counts to use in strategic fashion, you don’t want to give up shoot for the sake of over descriptive words, right?
One thing I was curious before this roleplay came out is, how is this team going to shake off the defeat from the week before? I feel they answered that question for me, hands down.
Now, take a look at this story from that point of view and see how this team is taking that defeat differently, which I liked and really set the two apart in a positive way.
Kyrie showed how he watches back tape to really dissect his work in the ring while Kenny takes the punishment on himself by releasing his frustrations in the gym. It’s a perfect contrast and adding Jessica to the mix trying to be the nurturer to the two in the situation even with the beginning of her looking to lift their spirits with their favorite snacks. I thought it was a great series of decisions across the board there.
As they move scenes to the rooftop, I saw a few typos, but nothing a little once over wouldn’t hurt. Their and there as an example, but it didn’t take away from the scene for me, at least not enough to feel derailed or anything. (I’m not an English teacher by no means)
I agree with Addy A on this line specifically being a great line from The Worst Generation:
Jessica Parker: Listen to me, Kenny. It's just one one loss. You and Kyrie can bounce back from this. The Worst Generation can still go on that run, but if you start to doubt and quit now, you'll just be proving your critics and doubters right, but if you and Kyrie can bounce back from this and go on and be everything that we all know you two can be, then you'll show them Worst Generation isn't just the best when they win, but because they know how to bounce back from a loss. Just like you both have been doing all your life. - Worst Gen
Now, I’m not sure if it did the same for Addy as it did for me, but this is my thought on it being picked. It could very well be the voice of reason that I thought Worst Gen needed and it was nice that Jessica was carrying that torch for us readers in this situation. I mentioned before that it was great to see her bringing in their favorite snacks to uplift their spirits, but even throwing down the reasoning on why they WILL bounce back from their defeat the week before, I feel she did a great job on laying down the path for her boys to do just that.
As for the shoot, it’s not hard to see that The Worst Generation is in fact on the same page and it was nice to see the reasoning behind their bond through their struggles early on in life that got them to this very day together. To break down Sky and TJ for being a random flippity doo da tag team thrown together to try to out shine a tag team that knows what it means to do tag team things, it was hammered home with the shoot.
I enjoyed the explanation of The Worst Generation name, thought that was a great stab at the fans, social media talking heads, and podcasters who play dumb to the fact.
Now, we are building our tag team division up, but I can say that The Worst Generation is a great team to get behind as they navigate these uncharted waters that are going to begin to run rampant even more soon.
Keep up the great work and continue to build on your story here in DPW.
