In a private corner of the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, Raj Banerjee is alone with his thoughts following an unbelievable victory against a star with years more experience than he. An athlete that should've crushed Raj, put him to sleep, made him tap in agony. But it didn't happen like that. And it STILL wasn't good enough for Raj's father Onkar.
Banerjee double checks that no one is looking, having successfully evaded his OnTourRaj that Daddy's money paid for to keep himin line safe... for now, anyway. With the coast clear, he lets out some of the well of emotion building up inside him for weeks since his unexpected ascent. He supresses the sound of his sobs with fingers over his mouth. He tries to analyse the cause of these tears but the whirlwind of the last few weeks' foray into superstardom has discombobulated his head.
"Look Mommy, there's Raj!"
A young boy of no more than six comes running over from the area adjacent to where the crew are loading the production equipment away. His mother trails behind. Raj wipes his eyes and composes himself just enough to not rouse any suspicion into what he's going through.
"i have a fan???" he wonders, in disbelief.
"Yeah, a SUPERfan!"
The youngster embraces Raj who looks up at his mother to check it's OK. She nods, affirmatively so he reciprocates the hug with a quick rustle of the boy's hair.
"did i do ok out their???"
"You were the best!"
Raj turns away to hide watery eyes as he gets choked up.
"It's alright. I am at peace with it. You don't need to be sad for me."
Turning back to him, Raj notices the boy pointing at his Make A Wish guest pass. It doesn't click.
"I have three months left, give or take. Thank you for giving me one of the best moments of my life tonight. When Vicente passed out, I was screaming all happy and stuff."
Speechless... Banerjee tries to articulate something but the intensity of his feelings overwhelm him. He knows all too well the power of fandom... but not from this other side of it and not with mortality and legacy so poignant. He hadn't felt anything like this for nearly two years. Not since that evening, he reckoned, though he was loathe to let his mind scan through those memories to darken such a wholesome encounter like this.
"That's ok. You don't have to talk. I just wanted to say thanks and that I'm your biggest fan. What you've done gives me more strength to fight this thing and to get through each day."
The boy and his mother start to walk away. Raj notes him jumping up and down into his mother's arms in excitement about meeting his new hero.
"thank u... frend"
The winsome Isobel Kendall, Raj Banerjee's 'Feelings Facilitator' inclines eagerly towards the plump, glamorous, mid 40s Indian woman on the end of a Zoom call.
"What about Hyde triggers Raj's trauma? Is there something from his childhood I should know?"
"NO BUSINESS YOU! JUST KEEP HYDE AWAY MY SON! HE NO GOOD FOR RAJ!" bellows Mrs. Rati Banerjee.
"Raj has shown he has enough wrestling prowess not to need to harness aggression to win matches. But I do feel that he needs to explore, healthily channel and ultimately reconcile his latent anger. Hyde's influence is not appropriate, I agree, but I believe I can help him..."
"RAJ NEED MAN HELP, NO YOU"
"I assure y..."
"ONKAR MY HUSBAND PAY YOU BUT I KNOW RAJ BETTER. WHEN HE SHOW ANGER LIKE AT EVOLUTION HE NEED MALE. BUT NO HYDE. YOU GIVE SUCK-SUCK WHEN RAJ SETTLE DOWN. PROMISE ME - MAN!"
"Mrs. Banerjee, I am not a sex therapist. I'll ask one of my male colleagues to help Raj this time... but honestly I thi..."
Rati cuts her off. "I GO NOW. BYE."
Zoom disconnects. Isobel casts her eyes across the OnTourRaj office and sees Pablo Tudor, Sage of Satori ass up in the Yoganidrasana pose. She sighs, hesitantly.
"Pablo... I have a job for you."
He darts to his feet and is beside her in a flash.
"How may I serve you?"
He is on tenterhooks as she explains his mission to get Raj through the biggest opportunity of his young life to date - an unexpected chance to become next in line for the Cruiserweight throne.
Approaching his assignment to mentor the unlikely rising star, Pablo leads Raj Banerjee as they walk through the trees, bathing in the effervescent beauty of Madera Canyon, Tucson.
"Deep within you is the cosmic potentiality to win the Cruiserweight number one contenders match at Clash. To manifest this blessing, I need to speak to your Higher Self."
"r u tryin 2 give me drug???"
"NOOO! ... Yes."
He opens his palm to reveal a brown liquid in a small paper cup.
"This is Ayahuasca. It will expand your consciousness and allow you to see into the etheric realm where all truth is unconcealed."
"maami say no drug."
"Think of it as Coca Cola. On steroids."
"yum i like coke."
He drinks a little before spitting it on the ground.
"yuk this descusting.i not happy...i i ooohhhhweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee so good feel."
He wobbles and giggles before fixing his gaze on a nearby rock. Teo Blaze's face appears on it.
"Tell me what you see."
"it tayo blaze.i watch tayo back in wcf when i in diper."
"You were a baby when Teo first started wrestling?"
"no i fifteen watch old tapes.diper so cumfertabal.ok wait i c sumthing else..."
The Teo rock rolls into a stream and sinks. The ripples on the water etch the face of Leah Lincoln.
"swamp witch so bad ass."
"Yes, she is certainly one bad ass competitor."
"no.bad.ass.it too tite and mussely.i no bang."
Pablo shakes his head wearily. Raj's eyes light up.
"look it havoc!!!!he flote in sky!!!!look at his sili beerd hahahahahahahaha."
"This isn't working..."
Forced to rethink his strategy, Pablo takes a moment to sit and ponder how the hell he's going to help Raj fluke his way to within one match of the Cruiserweight Title and CruiserClash dominance. A flash of inspiration, a 'satori moment' if you will, comes over Tudor as he decides on a fool proof way to draw the gold out of his gormless client... hypnosis!
