(While I'm technically using IC CJ for the broadcast, this is completely OOC and not meant to bring anyone down in any way)
Silence. Darkness. As it has always been in the beginning. A light comes on that pierces through the darkness.
"SKYBOX SPORTS" appears above the symbol in a white, neon light. A few seconds later, the lights come on, revealing a studio designed in black and white. There's AW merch in various areas of the studio while a Phoenix symbol rests on the front of the desk. Sitting in the center with his eyes closed is one CJ Phoenix. He opens his eyes and smirks as the camera zooms in on his face. He speaks in a calm tone.
Phoenix: Welcome.....to the future.
An intro plays, displaying highlights from various matches from the previous AW shows while "I'm Back(To Rise)" by Mick Gordon and Omega Sparx plays in the background. The mini video package ends with the camera zooming out until it's revealed that it had been zoomed in on the dot of a lowercase 'i'. The background shows a bunch of numbers and statistics while the center shows "1n5id3 +h3 numb3r5" before correcting itself to "Inside The Numbers".
Phoenix: GOOOOOOOOOOOD NOM-NOM-NOMMING and welcome to Action Wrestling: Inside The Numbers! I'm your tour guide, CJ Phoenix, and we're gonna take a quick look back at the April 12th editions of CruiserClash and Monday Night Clash. We'll be checking out some lesser known stats and highlighting a few things along the way. While it won't be as in-depth this time, you can consider this a preview of things to come. So hop aboard, because this ship is sailing into CruiserClash!
CruiserClash 4/12/21
Hidden Gems
"Run it back"
Phoenix: When you have so many talented people on the roster and so many events happening throughout the year, it's easy to see how unpredictable the show cards can be when they drop. So when the cards for 4/12 and 4/19 dropped, there was something unique about them. It's the first time this year that consecutive cards advertised both the same number of matches and total wrestlers across those matches. Six matches with sixteen people competing in them. Additionally, both are the second highest amount advertised over a two week period, with only the first two shows of the year featuring more.
1/4: 8 matches, 22 wrestlers
1/11: 6 matches, 20 wrestlers
"No contests, just chaos"
Phoenix: Chaos reigned supreme as not one, but TWO matches ended without a proper winner. The first came at the start of the night where a match between Sara Pettis and Andre Jenson devolved into a four car wreck between The Gatecrashers and Two Gents. Then, thanks to a boatload of shenanigans, an unsanctioned matched between CJ Phoenix and Carter Shaw ended in a mess of insanity thanks to Philidor influence. This marks the first time since Jim Mud did a pump fake on his own match against Andre Jenson back on February 15th that a CruiserClash match ended without a proper winner. It's also the first time this year that multiple CruiserClash matches have been thrown out on the same night.
CC matches thrown out in 2021: 4
(1/4 Randy Seed vs Aiden Prince)
*first match of the year
(2/15 Jim Mud vs Andre Jenson)
(4/12 Sara Pettis vs Andre Jenson)
(4/12 CJ Phoenix vs Carter Shaw)
*Andre Jenson is the first wrestler to be involved in multiple thrown out CC matches this year
"Parity for charity"
Phoenix: You wanna know how closely competitive CruiserClash is? Below is a list of the people on the current CC roster who had multiple matches in April.
S. Martinez
K. Nash
M. Starr
R. Voorhees*
S. Fortuna
Flop
Andre Jenson*
Pineapple Promenade
M. Teijin
Kata-Pult
Phoenix: Wanna know how many of them went 2-0? Zero. It doesn't mean that they're not great. It's the opposite. The entire roster is so stacked that they're all top-tier talent clashing with each other. As for the asterisks, they represent the strange outliers. Due to having an impromptu title defense following her tag match, Regan had three matches in April's first two weeks. She's the first on the CruiserClash roster with multiple wins this month. As for Andre, he sits at 1-0-1 due to how his second match ended, making him the only one with multiple matches without any losses this month.
Monday Night Clash 4/12/21
Hidden Gems
Phoenix: LAAAAANNNNNND HOOOOOOOOO!!! Our Cruise has taken us to Monday Night Clash! Boy was this a harmonious train wreck in all the best ways.
"Unfinished business"
Phoenix: Earlier, I brought up CruiserClash matches that ended without a proper victor. None of those this year happened in the main event. If you're looking for one of those, look no further than the past Clash.
MNCs with main events that did not have a definitive winner:
4/12(Downfall vs NATE)
2/22(H.R. Department vs FPV and Corey Black)
1/25(Der Metzger, Howard Black, Carter Shaw, Ash Blake vs Odin Balfore, Stuart Shane, Kyle Kemp, Corey Black)*
*match never started
"Stipulation stimulation"
Phoenix: You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed, try again, mothaf-...what's that? I can't use that language? The fuck they gone do about it? My show. I'll take my chances. Anyways, if at first you don't succeed, TRY AGAIN, MOTHAFUKKA! This past Clash was the third of the year to feature a main event that wasn't contested under normal rules. However, it was the first that didn't have a clear winner. So to make up for it, the ensuing card has a non-traditional main event as well, marking the first time this year that back-to-back Clashes have main events contested under non-traditional rules. Ya love to see it!
MNC Main Events w/non-traditional rules:
(2/15 Cage Match: Graham Baker vs Max Daemon)
(3/15 Hardcore Championship Match: Claire Hawkins vs Spencer Adams)
(4/12 Extreme Rules Match: Downfall vs NATE)
(4/19 Last Man Standing Match: James Nightingale vs Matthias Mintzel)
Phoenix: That's all the time we have for this pilot episode of AW Inside The Numbers. Tune in next time for the recap of the April 19th shows. Also, there's a special show coming up after that one. One that will take a look back at the first third of the year, putting the spotlight on breakout stars and people who had MVP months so far as well as a few other things. Byeonara, everyone! Take care, and be great!
The camera zooms out slowly as the light fades into darkness, leaving the neon glows as the only light source before they too fade to black.
