Awh, there we go. I was waiting for you to break the conversation down to tripping over yourself. It’s what they all do, right? I get it though. You don’t understand champion’s logic and that’s okay. The people who produce this show ask you for a flat five minute promo to hype the fight and you came with enough material to fill about two. If I were you, I wouldn’t want that dead space either. That’s where YOU get you. That’s where the silence you create psychs you out worse than I ever could, isn’t it?
You say Spencer Adams is bitter when you mean hungry sorta like I say CJ Phoenix when I mean “lol who?” You see, I’m critical, because it is my duty to criticize. You’re upset because you expect me...not to be? CJ, it is not my responsibility to sell you to the world. It is my job to challenge you to do it yourself via results that matter and cement you as someone better than who we’ve seen over the past handful of years. You haven’t been so great with that though, have you? That’s why you give the keys to others and expect them to drive you forward while you resign yourself to a backseat and a booster.
I shouldn’t be surprised that this is your mentality though. After all, you do work directly with the guy who is still BITTER towards Spencer Adams, because he feels not enough was done to help get him over. That’s your homie now, right? A man who is still stuck on the idea of what “should’ve been”, the idea that I was supposed to eat a finger poke of doom and do the job as a way to scratch the back of somebody who scratched mine? Ya know, because bringing someone in and positioning them around the top of the card by association wasn’t enough.
You look at me and my desire to keep this away from others as a bad thing, as if winning belts and trying to keep them from others isn’t the entire nature of this business. You say you want it for yourself? Join the fucking club, doofus. You aren’t special for WANTING something the same way you aren’t special for training hard. The bar that you want to talk up is the absolute bare minimum. Everybody WANTS, but there aren’t many who walk through those doors that are able or even willing to dig deep enough to get the job done and to this point, you are right there with them.
Some people are doers and some people dismiss shortcomings like they mean nothing to them, like they don’t care to actually learn and grow from them. Of course, I am the former and you are the latter. In beating you and everyone else at Battlefield, I didn’t just want the reward that came with it. I wanted another W under my belt. The fact that you can sit there and try to tell the world that you pick and choose the ones you desire is exactly why you’ve spent months getting lost in the shuffle on the same brand that allows Karlie Nash to build a case for a hall of fame ring.
Keep trying to sell yourself as brutal though. Keep telling us all about how you pick and choose your battles, because I love hearing it come out of your mouth. “CJ Phoenix takes days off” is the entire fucking headline and you’re the one writing the story. Not even halfway through promo number two and you’re already out here ratting on yourself. Great fucking job..braVO! You’ve been away training so fucking hard just to come in and in the same breath tell us that you’re only applying it half the time? Miss me with that bullshit.
Don’t act like you’re out here just allowing me my moments of success either when I’m the guy who rips them from hands like a Zion Williamson steal. You, on the other hand, turn the ball over so much it almost looks intentional. Why? Because you are so complacent that you can’t help yourself. You dip one toe in and take a leap when you feel that the water is warm. You do not want a barbed wire deathmatch, you only want inclusion in these conversations without actually becoming the topic itself. You want people to know the name CJ Phoenix, but you haven’t been willing to truly sell it to anyone.
CJ, I am the mountain. I don’t really have to climb it anymore, because we are synonymous. Fifty three wins in this company and counting, with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. For every loss, a greater win. For every championship not retained, there’s many more gained. It’s death, taxes, and me winning a lot. Me being here and doing what I do is all about defending AW itself. You want emotion? Pay attention then, because I let it all out there in the ring, in check but without any sign of holding back. You better hope that training pays off, pray that the love given to you by those around you is enough to carry you through, because you may not receive an opportunity like this again. Say what you will, but Spencer Adams is the biggest match of your career and may very well be the last. THIS is your shot at Evolution, because we both know that there’s no guarantee for you to even make it on the card otherwise. Honestly, you might wanna light that candle again, because I have a feeling shit is about to get dark.
