We open on Victoria Richardson seated in front of a large television screen, with her back to the camera. On the screen is Soldado Fortuna’s submission match with CJ Phoenix, specifically the exact moment when Soldado taps out. Victoria proceeds to rewind and playback Soldado’s tap-out over and over, each time her grip on the remote becomes increasingly strained. She finally pauses just as Soldado is about to tap again
Richardson: This is what has been running through my head ever since that match ended. The scene of my great Mexican warrior admitting that he cannot take the pain any longer and surrendering. I thought viewing it again would be cathartic and that eventually I’d be numb to what happened...
Victoria's voice trails off for a moment. She clears her throat, before continuing
"That tap-out was not merely a sign that Soldado had to give up, it was the opportunity to become number one contender being ripped away from us. After all, CJ Phoenix was granted entry into the number one contender’s match at Timebomb on the heels of this match. Am I being unreasonably when I suggest that spot would’ve been Soldado’s had he been able to hold on? I don’t think so"
"It also dealt a significant blow to both my pride, as well as Soldado’s. It was nothing short of an embarrassment for the both of us, I cannot describe it any other way. To be pinned is one thing but the pain of losing is magnified ten times over when it’s via submission"
"I could only watch, frozen in disbelief that Soldado could even consider submitting, that by the time I snapped back into action, it was too late. Each slap of the hand was like a death blow to me – and I’m not even the one who tapped out. You can only imagine the feeling for someone with as much pride as Soldado has to be forced to physically admit defeat...trust me, Soldado hasn’t taken that loss lightly. It burned him, right through to his soul..."
Victoria turns the television off and stands up, moving around the couch to now be standing in front of the camera
"As you can plainly see, Soldado isn't here with me. Hell, I have barely seen Soldado since the loss... but he has assured me that the humiliation and shame he felt has now been channelled into anger and aggression. He has been working this entire time to ensure that next time, he will be the one inflicting the humiliation and shame rather than be on the receiving end"
"I genuinely fear for you Flop and I do not say that hyperbolically as some sort of feeble attempt to scare you. I have seen the look in Soldado’s eyes ever since he submitted. A look that I hadn’t seen from him in the past. A look of pure violence. I say all of this to warn you Flop because, unlike yourself, I do actually value a human life. Frankly, I can’t be certain of what state my client will arrive to CruiserClash this week in and whether he will be capable of restraining himself"
"Now, will you heed this warning? Of course not. Why? You’ll be too busy crafting some witty remark about me being a slut or graphically describing how members of the roster engage in sexual activities. You murdered someone and responded with effectively “oops, oh well”, so why would I expect you to take my words seriously?"
"After all, we are merely guests in your kingdom, right? Funny that for all your claims of this being your kingdom, Flop...I have seen no crown of yours. This, despite you being one of the most tenured members on the roster. How hard must it be to be relegated to spectator as newcomer after newcomer come in and pass you by. So hard that it pushed you to murder to keep your name from completely vanishing into the wind"
"this kingdom you’ve imagined, Flop, is nothing more than your ivory tower, an ivory tower that Soldado Fortuna is going to send crumbling to dust, along any semblance of relevance you have Flop....Just don’t say I didn’t warn you"
