"I hate what I have not yet become."
Two weeks before the interrogation. CJ Phoenix is at home watching SportsCenter. His wife, Kaiyah, has her head on his chest while she is on her phone. Phoenix has the remote in his right hand and Kaiyah's waist in the other. Despite neither of them speaking for several minutes, they are both enjoying themselves. It's an unspoken peace. A comforting feeling of being with the one you love. However, there was a storm brewing in CJ's mind.
Normally when he's got a lot on his mind, he goes out on a calming drive to clear his head. However, he decides to wait until his lady is asleep to do so. A couple of hours pass, and Kaiyah has peacefully fallen asleep. He slowly slips out of the bedroom and makes his way to his vehicle. He revs up the engine of his Hellcat and drives off towards the interstate. Why? Why was he feeling this way? How could he get rid of what's been plaguing his thoughts? As he starts drifting into his mind, his car continues to speed up on the interstate. 50....55....60....65....70...the speedometer continues to climb. What was this horrific thing? Envy. Out of all of his emotions, that was the one he had the biggest issue with, but why? What's there to be jealous of? His life has been relatively peaceful as of late. He has a beautiful, loving wife and a happy marriage. His home is fully paid for. He has a life that most people could only dream of....and yet, there was still jealousy. Of who? Himself. When he sees himself in the mirror, he sees the man he is and the man he could have been. 105...110...115...
Chase has always had seemingly limitless potential, but that set the bar in his mind somewhere in space because of how high it was. He picked up on things quickly. A jack of all trades. Good at many things, but never as proficient as he feels he could be. CJ picked up wrestling and became a champion in less than a year in WCF. Most people that were there cannot make that claim. The downside was that he was planning for the short term instead of the long term. He put all his eggs in one basket and they got destroyed by the unforgiving tornado that is misfortune. Due to situations outside of wrestling taking a toll on him both mentally and emotionally, he was never able to reach the level he felt he could reach while he was there. He would sometimes take weeks off to try to clear his mind. Sadly, no matter how many times he returned, something would come up. His body would be in the ring, but his mind and heart were elsewhere. Life simply isn't fair.
It wasn't just his wrestling career that was being affected. He built the foundation for one of ESPN's most successful programs by puting pro wrestling on the cyber map even more. He's been working hard to successfully build up AW's reputation behind the scenes. Despite going to casinos less frequently, he's still been doing well in poker tournaments. On top of that, CJ's even found success streaming on Twitch. Multiple streams of income. Doing things he enjoys. This is the life he wanted, but it still doesn't feel like it's enough. Something was still missing. He still felt like he could and should be further along than he actually is. His jealousy of who he felt he could and should be caused a rift to form in his mind. That endless potential he has wasn't being tapped into. Instead, it was being held back by CJ himself. Not intentionally, but he realized that it was the case. His mind was so worried about the wins and losses of life that it drove him crazy. He was so obsessed with constantly progressing that he felt that any step that wasn't forward was a step back. Instead of building a solid foundation and taking his time, he kept rushing to push the bar higher and higher until it was out of reach. Once it was, he was left stranded on the ground. Broken, disappointed, and envious of what he felt should have been. It has to end. CJ Phoenix had grown tired of sitting around and hoping things would work themselves out. Simply putting bandages on the broken bones that were once his stable mental health was not going to work. He needed to do something different. Perha-
All of a sudden, his car's speed decreased drastically and he started swerving out of control. Tires screeched as marks were left on the road. He had zoned out so far that when he returned to reality, it took an instinctive reaction to prevent him from ramming into the back of an 18-wheeler. Off the road his vehicle went until it eventually crashed into a tree. His world had changed in an instant. There was no interstate or starry skies. Just darkness and uncertainty about whether or not he was still alive.
