“This is it, mom. This is the one I’ve been wishing for.” Sara looks at a picture of her mother on her dresser. “The trials and tribulations have brought me to the dance I’ve been hoping for. I'm one of eleven women competing for the Action Wrestling Women’s Championship. It’s finally real!” She looks over at collage of photographs on the wall of her past achievements. “I need to get back to that place, mom… and this match is how I do it. This match is how… I get my groove back…” A knock breaks her concentration and she turns to see her step-daughter Lexi standing in the open doorway. “Uhh hi, Sara. I rang the door bell a few times… but…” “I’m so sorry, Lexi. I was just…” There’s an awkward silence. “It’s okay. I just finished your gear for XIII and it… is… awesome! Come on!” Lexi goes out into the living room of the small apartment and Sara follows, seeing the young woman open up a garment bag. She holds it out in front of Sara, whose eyes widen and tears start to slowly trickle down her cheeks. “Please let those be tears of joy…” “Of course they are! Oh my God, Lexi! That turned out better than I imagined!” “You really like it?” “It’s the perfect blend of my parents’ gimmicks! Thank you so much!” Lexi sets the bag down on the couch as Sara embraces her. “This will look great at XIII. It’s an outdoor event, so this will really shine in natural sunlight.” “It’s still okay that I tag along, right? The twins usually sneak me backstage when they’re booked and I feel really weird about that.” “I’ve got you comped, hun. You’ll have a badge that’ll get in you in pretty much anywhere.” “Awesome! Thank you so--” A chime from her phone breaks her concentration. She opens it up and giggles, then shows Sara... “Well how about that?! I am tied for fifth place with another strong, beautiful, principled woman. That’s not a bad place to be listed.” “Aren’t you worried that you’re not the favored winner of this match?” They sit down on the couch as Sara looks more closely at her new gear. “Not at all. The betting odds for something like this are cool if you’re into that kind of thing… but the reality of the situation is very different. I’ve been against the odds since day one, Lexi. In my first year, I was contacted by [redacted] to be a last minute replacement in a Lethal Lottery Tournament for their World Championship. There I was… eighteen years old… with a chip on my shoulder… against all imaginable odds. Do you know how that turned out?” “Well, yeah. You won.” “Exactly. Nobody in their right mind thought I would win… and then I did. This match is no different. I’ve spent months here doing nothing of any value… but it all changes with this one match. This one match where I will go against the odds to be called… Final Girl. Claire Hawkins won last year’s match at XIII… and look how far she dropped in those silly odds. She’s the only one of us to be competing for the second year in a row. She should be the odds-on-favorite for this match. Also, there are only eleven participants… and there are fifteen listed on the odds… including one man. So… no… I’m not worried at all about where I place on that silly list.” “Not all lists are silly. Sometimes it helps the fans get an idea of your feelings about each person individually.” “Oh, absolutely. I did that for the Havoc Rumble when I spoke very positively about the dozen or so women in the match, while completely fabing the dozens of men in the match. I did so then to promote empowerment of women… and now I'm part of a match that is solely for us. This Women’s Championship that's been popping up sporadically will change hands… and I will be the Final Girl walking out of XIII as champion. If that means I have to take out newcomers like Nidrah or Aurora or Stella to do it… that’s fine. They’ve got bright futures here… but the present belongs to me. I'm sure people see Karlie as a threat because her friend Nikki would throw herself on a landmine to protect the RWB brand… but in a match like this… neither will be able to focus on saving the other. I’m a huge fan of Sierra and Azurine. Once I am champion… those are the first two I will be begging to work with… once I defend against last year’s Final Girl… Claire Hawkins. She’s the OG of female badasses here in Action Wrestling… and a lowkey living legend. I would love to sink my teeth into a match with her… and if we end up the final two in this battle royal… it’ll be a dream come true for me. Unfortunately that means it would be a nightmare for her… because I won’t let her be a repeat winner.” “What about Spayde Martinez?” “She is responsible for all of this. She brought that title to Action Wrestling and proclaimed herself champion. She made targets out of all the women on CruiserClash… but somehow she’s avoided me like the plague. There’s no more ducking me. She has to put her title on the line against ten fierce warriors… and I’ll be the last woman standing on the backlawn of The Fillmore. She's been storming around with all this Big Clit Energy for too long and it's high time someone puts her in her damn place. End result? Sara Pettis... NEW CHAMP” “Was that everyone? I feel like you’re missing one…” "Oh. I didn't forget about Alice." She shakes her head. "After your dad passed, I was looking through his phone... and found some pictures that Alice is going to have to answer to me for..." 𝕯𝖆𝖘 𝖊𝖓𝖉𝖊. |
