Name: Umeji
Age: 33
Height: 5’ 7”
Weight: 158 lbs.
Hometown: Kobe, Japan
Alignment: Tweener
In-Ring Style: Striker-Technical
Bio: Once a staple of the Japanese circuit—but best known for his last stint in the US—Umeji abandoned all things wrestling for a life in the Tibetan Himalayans. There he extinguished himself and all that drove a hurtful path. Those efforts, however, only starved his warrior heart. Umeji has now returned to America in hopes of recovering the life he left.
Attire: Umeji invokes the deity Fudō Myō-ō (Buddhist Acala) via his blue mask worn during classical noh theater. He wrestles shirtless (no tattoos) with blue suit pants, hidden kick pads and dress shoes that are functional for competition. Under the mask, Umeji paints his entire face blue—all except for his short, wiry beard.
Theme song: “The Color out of Space” – Nigen Isu
Pic Base: Eikichi Yazawa
Entrance: Lights dim before flashing blue to the opening rift of “The Color out of Space” by Nigen Isu. Action-tron video of a snowy mountain closes up to its point—just as the lyrics peak—revealing the blue oni mask of Fudō Miyō-ō. Fog wraps around the ramp where Umeji suddenly emerges wearing the same mask. He walks down the ramp with song at blast. Reaching the apron, he makes a baseball slide under the bottom rope. His shoulders almost reach the canvas before spinning into a standing position. Umeji then rips off his mask to show his blue face paint. A final high kick—held for several seconds being lowering—shows he’s ready to fight.
Favorite moves: Crucifix pin, Tiger suplex (can bridge for pin), diving spear, spinning backhand
Kicks: Roundhouse, axe kick, leg sweep, enzujiri,
Submissions: Ankle lock (grounded or as reversal), surfboard stretch
Signature moves:
“Scorpion Kick” – Umeji dives onto his palms for an upwards rising kick over his head
Backflip Kick – If opponent catches one of kicks, he does a backflip kick reversal
“Edo Special” (on small opp.) – Gutwrench suplex bridged into a cross armbar
Finishers:
“Tsuchigumo” – Shooting Star Press tucked into an elbow drop
“Kamaitachi” – 720˚ tornado kick
