Jenna Bauer is interviewing Stuart Slane backstage at Monday Night Clash. Despite having showered and changed into his civvies, the effects of his match earlier in the show are still visible. He’s exhausted and sore as he fields Jenna’s questions.
Jenna Bauer: Stuart your match with Jay Omega ended in a double count out. You must be disappointed.
Stuart Slane: I am. I am not happy with my performance, and I’m sure Mr. Omega feels the same. We fought hard, and eventually we let our passions get the better of us. Losing track of the count was inexcusable: a rookie error in concentration that as a veteran I should be beyond. I’m sorry for my part in denying the fans what they deserved to see: a fight with a clear winner. Hopefully Mr. Omega and myself will get a chance to make up for this failure soon.
Jenna Bauer: Despite the inconclusive outcome of your match, your name loomed large during the show. A group calling itself The Friends of Stuart Slane Committee bought time during Clash campaigning on your behalf. Is there any information on the group you can share with us?
Slane smiles wryly.
Stuart Slane: You know as much about them as I do, Miss Bauer. I recognized Bryan Worthy formerly of Wrestling Championship Federation as the presenter, but beyond that their membership is a mystery. I do want to state for the record that I have no connection to them at all, and their actions were done without my approval. Not saying I don’t appreciate their efforts; when it comes to finding a tag team partner I need all the help I can get.
Jenna Bauer: Clash’s new General Manager Alexander Pasternak is another party trying to help you. Last week on Action Wrestling’s website a poll was put up listing several wrestlers as potential partners. Whoever wins the vote will tag with you in a non-title match against Kill or Cure. What are your thoughts on this development?
Stuart Slane: Again, I appreciate it. Action is a huge roster filled with great talent; so much so it can be difficult for a person to get noticed. To receive this kind of support from the front office means a lot, since it says they have faith and me and in the wrestlers chosen to be in the poll.
Jenna Bauer: So far you haven’t endorsed anyone to be in that spot, beyond saying you would be happy to work with any of them. Surely you must have a favorite?
Stuart Slane: I do. There are two wrestlers listed I was scouting as potential partners before the poll was put into place. Forgive me for playing coy and not identifying them by name. I don’t want to skew the results one way or the other by listing my preferences. This is a huge opportunity. Forget about me and what I’m after- it’s not like being part of this match forces anyone to commit to tagging with me in the future; the winner of the poll gets to face two of wrestling’s finest. It’s a chance to prove yourself; to stand out in a crowded field. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more politicking from the candidates. If you didn’t come to Action Wrestling to test yourself against the best then why are you here? And if you’re hesitating because you worry I won’t be able to carry my share of the load in the match then why haven’t you been paying attention?
Jenna Bauer: While I have you here there is another topic I’d like to discuss. There are rumors that someone in your circle of acquaintances has joined Carnivore’s cult. Daniel Dream has made allusions to it, and various online sources have gone so far as to identify the person by name.
Slane’s demeanor changes. His body tenses up, and his expression hardens.
Stuart Slane: I wouldn’t believe anything Mr. Dream says, Miss Bauer, nor would I place much stock in anonymous sources on the internet.
Jenna Bauer: So are you denying that-?
The big man’s right eyelid twitches slightly as he cuts her off
Stuart Slane: I’m sorry. My private life is not open to discussion, even if doing so would quash unfounded rumors. It’s a matter of principle, I’m afraid.
Jenna Bauer: But Stuart, don’t you think it’s newsworthy if in fact one member of the Action Wrestling roster might be trying to strike at a rival through a loved one?
Stu has now developed a full blown facial tic. Jenna seems to realize her guest could fully meltdown, and is torn between keeping the pressure on in the name of journalism and social media clicks or getting the hell out of there before the subject puts her through a wall. Stuart takes the decision out of her hands by excusing himself.
Stuart Slane: Miss Bauer, I thought this interview was to be about my journey towards finding a tag team partner. I wouldn’t have agreed to take part if I knew I would have to discuss gossip being spread by a clearly unhinged individual and his proxies.
He gives Jenna a pointed look and then walks away.
