Epilogue
The Day After
Daniel Gibson and Jack White walked across the car park towards their hidden office. The evening previous, they had their car stolen. Today, like two lepers, they were forced to use the service known as Uber to make their way to work.
“Can you believe the eyes of that brunette last night.” Gibson chortled to his partner.
“Ya were dreaming then thinking you had a chance and ya still dreaming now, kid.” White words cast disdain on his partner.
“But she never took her eyes off me.” He challenges the senior member of the team.
“And when you finally gathered ya nuts up enough to walk over there and talk to her, what did she say to you?” the elder bites back.
“She told me to fuck off.” Gibson frowns.
“Ya never had a chance.” White laughs.
The pair stop in their tracks, finding a handwritten note haphazardly pinned to their office door. The shredded message is held in place by a kitchen knife. The ominous message on the sign reads, “Disappear or die.” Both men look at each other, telepathically considering their options, especially considering the events of last night. They mentally process who has seen them in the previous few hours. Before walking away from their office, Jack removes the knife and note from the door.
“I’ve got an Aunt with an old place on Manursing Island,” Gibson suggests. “We could get away form everything. No one gonna find us there. I don’t think I like this message.
“Might be an idea.” White agrees. “I’m old, but I don’t feel like dying just yet.”
They look around tentatively before making towards the fire exit, hoping spying eyes don’t catch their exodus.
