Character Name: Matthias Mintzel
Nickname: N/A
Hometown: Rostock, Germany
Height: 6'7
Weight: 121kg
Alignment: (Heel)
In-Ring Style: Reasonably athletic big man, not as athletic as he once was mind you.
Bio: In the early 2000's "der Schmetterling" (The Butterfly) Matthias Mysteriös was one of the hottest properties in world wrestling when the 21 year old 6 foot 7 powerhouse who could fly moved from his home in the former East Germany to the United States.
Matthias was an a sensation, physically dominating everyone the US could throw at him despite being less than half many of their ages. Fans flocked to see der Schmetterling in local indies and the only question was where would his next move be? The answer came as a shock to everyone, the NFL. Having never played American Football in his life Matthias gave up wrestling to sign ostensibly as a linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles. Physically he could clearly compete but having never played the game there were huge doubts he could make it in a new sport. Sadly for Matthias those fears were well placed, after 2 years struggling for game time back in his native Germany playing in the now defunct NFL Europe for the Rhein Fire, Matthias was cut in 2004 having been found guilty of taking steroids.
Rumours of substance abuse followed Matthias as he tried to rebuild his reputation as a wrestler, but something was always missing. Still a bruiser, the dynamism, intensity and connection to the crowd had faded. Still, in early 2006 he was given a shot based on his previous aura with a guaranteed multi-million dollar contract for a new company hoping to become the premier brand of wrestling. He lasted just 2 weeks into that contract- fired for unprofessional behaviour. Before the days of smartphones and Twitter details are scarce but rumours of more substance abuse, (Steroids and illegal drugs) and turning up late whilst drunk were substantiated by various sources.
Now making a comeback under his real name and dropping the butterfly nickname, many people will be curious to see if, 14 years since his last appearance he can produce anything like the old Matthias. His motivations for a return are unclear, in very occasional interviews over the last decade he claimed he would never return to the ring and had always hated wrestling.
Yet here he is.
Attire: Dull. Big black boots and plan black wrestling tights. When entering the ring he is wearing a plain Grey hooded top but he'll take that off and throw it to ringside when he's in the ring, but usually wears a dark coloured vest top too to hide the extra few pounds he's carrying nowadays. Only one tattoo which is on his right bicep of a penguin holding a beer bottle, he massively regrets it.
Theme song: Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt
Pic Base: Robert Helenius
Entrance: The song starts slowly as Matthias Mintzel walks directly to the ring. He looks dead behind the eyes as he ignores any crowd reaction. As he approaches the ring he slows further and comes to a stop as the heavier chorus kicks in. He closes his eyes and takes a deep sigh, before walking to the ring steps and slowly making his way up them and into the ring. He walks to his corner and starts shadow boxing before settling down with the same dead look in his eyes, pulling off his hoody and throwing it to ringside.

History
Cormack MacNeill- After struggling for fitness in his first few matches, Matthias attacked Cormack MacNeill on the first episode of Clash after the Havoc Rumble. Dubiously claiming to want to help Cormack by stopping him wrestling, Mintzel's attack was vicious and worsened an existing knee injury from MacNeill's past. For a couple of weeks a war of words ensued but MacNeill got some revenge having had a challenge for Evolution 3 accepted as Mintzel underestimated his physical state and ended up with a fractured rib. In a brutal, physical encounter at Evolution 3 Matthias managed to eventually beat MacNeill. In a shock to the fans and Matthias himself, newly appointed Clash GM Alexander Pasternak made his way to the ring to make Matthias the first ever Pure Champion. 2 weeks later he would defend the title against MacNeill again, this time knocking him out.
Pure Champion - Matthias successfully defended the Pure Title against a number of opponents including Downfall, Zombie McMorris and Cormack again. After a reign of over 100 days he engaged in a war of words with "The Influencer" Noris Cranley who Matthias probably underestimated and would lose the title to.
The Lost Breed - Matthias joined The Lost Breed in 2020 aligning himself with James Nightingale, David Sanchez, Claire Hawkins and later Downfall and JC Keaton.
Hardcore Champion- Matthias pinned Corey Bull in a triple threat match in late 2020 to take Frank Lowe's Hardcore Title. Matthias would later beat Frank one on one before losing the title in a bruising encounter to Spencer Adams.
NATE- In mid-2020 perennial struggler NATE developed an admiration for Matthias who didn't feel the same at all. He did however find NATE's adopted mother Traw Ma quite attractive so in the end he agreed to hire NATE as his "bodyguard". Since then, NATE has mostly annoyed Matthias but he is still around.
