Character Name:
Sahara (Lauren MacKay)
Nickname:
The Crimson Queen
Hometown:
Chicago, IL.
Height:
5'10"
Weight:
180lbs
Alignment:
50 Shades of Morally Grey -- (Sahara will be whatever benefits her at any given time, especially if she can effectively sell it.)
In-Ring Style:
Her style is often referred to as "reckless" with little regard for herself or her opponents. As she is is not a very good ring technician or martial artist, and is often out-sized by male opponents, she will use various aspects of the ring, such as the ropes, turnbuckles, etc. to turn herself into a projectile weapon in order to bridge the gap between size and strength and level the playing field. Due to this reckless style, Sahara should be shown botching various high-flying moves from time-to-time (emphasis on 'time-to-time'), but things such as slipping off the ropes, mistiming a move, or completely overshooting her target are not unheard of.
The basis for this is it should allow for wrestlers that clearly outsize her to effectively "sell" her offense without breaking the aura of belief.
This recklessness should also be used to cast a bit of a 'Doc Holliday' effect on her, as he was a notorious gunslinger people feared -- not because he was fast or accurate -- but because they knew he wasn't afraid to die.
Bio:
Long story short? Sahara grew up in a wrestling family and has the sickness of the business in her blood. Though she achieved her aspirations of becoming a successful wrestler in the EWA (circa 2016-2018) before it's sudden an unexpected closure, she achieved these dreams much later in life than expected. Despite her families connections to the industry, during the time she was in her age 'prime', women were relegated to demeaning bra-and-panties type matches, which she refused to take part in. Upon finally giving it a go at a time women in the sport were more respected, she was forced to adapt her style to face much larger/faster opponents, which took it's toll on her body and mind, and despite not starting professionally until 34 years of age, by 36 she was done due to the bruising wear and tear/daily grind of the business. Sensing her time had already passed, she decided to move on from the business she loved...
From there, she landed a non-recurring bit part in a Gothic horror Netflix series of the Supernatural variety, in which her character -- a vampire named Serena Black -- garnered an unexpected cult following with it's fans, which later resulted in an expansion of the role. While the series was eventually canceled, some view it's short stint as a critical success for the much 'CW-ized' genre, cutting no corners and depicting a very raunchy sex/blood fueled show that wasn't meant for the feint of heart.
Figuring she could leverage what little fame she garnered from the Netflix role, and her body having healed up enough, she looked to turn back to her one true love: wrestling. As fate would have it, right around this time someone by the name of Voodoo contacted her about a wrestling organization called Action Wrestling. Needless to say, she was sold by whatever this stranger was selling. Despite the fact Sahara knew she was on borrowed time, considering her looks would fade someday soon, and her aging body would give out sooner than later, she knew it wasn't much of a choice ... it would be now or never. Either continue the grind of auditioning for various bit parts she could land in film, or return to the only thing that made her feel alive...
Wrestling.
As said, it wasn't a choice.
Attire:
She sports multiple rows of Nordic style braids that tie her platinum hair back, and dark eyeliner is applied almost like warpaint, accentuating a fierce look. Her inky black full length tights have red trim down the side of the legs, and black wrestling boots blend into black knee pads. The outfit is rounded off with a strappy black top. Her kick pads are emblazoned down the front with silver lettering, with one boot reading 'Victory' and the other 'Valhalla'.
Theme song:
In This Moment - Adrenalize
Pic Base:
Maryse
Entrance:
As the heavy beat of In This Moment's 'Adrenalize' hits, the lights dim down and leave the stage bathed in an eerie red glow. The tron simultaneously flickers to life, as the lyrics of her song display along with the music. The Crimson Queen is seen standing front and center on the stage, her arms up and her head tilted back beneath the lights. As the music picks up, she shoves off and charges down the rampway straight for the ring, using her momentum to slide in through the bottom rope before jumping to her feet.
