BEFORE THE SWERVE
Lissie Hope had been intrigued by the opportunity presented before her. She had gone back and forth for weeks, weighing the pros-and-cons of such an inconceivable faction. It would obviously be a slap in the face of the fans who had lifted her as high as she was, in such a short time, but still. The idea that she could actually join forces with the one person who she had set her sights on from the minute she landed in A-Dub; it was a tenuous decision, at worst. A vigorous, career-defining arc, at best. Would Lissie Hope be boo'd out of the stadium? Would she command the respect of everyone who didn't see it coming? Did any of it matter?
At the moment, no.
Only one thing did.
Only one person did.
Estrella Luiz was stationed backstage, mingling with backstage staff and lucky fans who had won passes to get their memorabilia autographed by AW superstars. Evolution 2 was only minutes from beginning, and all of the enthusiastic attendees would soon be ushered to their seats. Estrella was contractually-obligated to satisfy their cravings, even if for only a scribble on a ticket stub, but she seemed to really be enjoying the entire ordeal.
"If they only knew," a voice behind Lissie said, breaking her from her lingering gaze. "Are you ready to shock the world?"
Lissie nodded her head, still undeterred by the familiar voice behind her. "I still don't know how I came to the point where I'm saying yes," she said as the woman sauntered behind her. "But I'm glad I did. No one will see this shit coming."
Lissie still stared at Estrella, beaming and happy with the engaged fans.
"Oh, how their hearts will bleed," the woman said. "But why do you continue letting her toy with yours?"
The question caught Lissie by surprise. She turned to face her, once a hated enemy, and now a soon-to-be reluctant ally.
"What are you getting at, Kennedy?"
"She's oblivious... for whatever reason. Perhaps she's in denial. But you need to tell her," Kennedy said, offering surprising advice. "Before it's too late."
Lissie glanced back as the fans were dismissed from Estrella's signing table. She could only see the ponytail now as Estrella chattered about with a member of personnel.
"You're right," Lissie admitted, downing a shot of whiskey to give her the courage necessary to finally divulge her feelings.
There was a hop in her step as she confidently walked towards Estrella. Much to her surprise, though, three members of the security detail hidden around the corner tackled her to the floor, holding her down.
"What the fuck?" Lissie managed to say, the weight of the men crushing her organs.
"I don't see a wristband!" one said. Estrella looked down at Lissie, confused by the commotion. It was then when Lissie noticed it wasn't Estrella at all. "Ma'am, you are not allowed within 20 feet of Ariana Grande without a credentialed wristband!" another said.
"Well, I'll be fucking damned."
AFTER THE SWERVE
The four members of the revived Royal Family rented out the appropriate Kennedy Soho in downtown Tampa for an invite-only afterparty following the conclusion of Evolution 2. Their plan, months in the making, had come to fruition and they were relishing in the fact that they had created such a ground-breaking group with strong females of every level, with a cohesive vision of running the company from the top of the card down to the bottom. Whether or not it would ever materialize was still the story that needed telling, but for now, the ladies were riding high.
"Everything fell right into place," Kennedy said, raising her glass to the center of the table for all of the clique to share in a toast. "To royalty."
Lissie was still uncertain, but there was no turning back now. She had made her decision; it was up to her now to erase any vindictiveness that still occasionally floated to the surface. Kennedy Matthews was not a trustworthy person. Lissie knew that from the minute she laid eyes on her. But still, the four of them had a common goal, and it was time to put it all in the past, and to focus on the future.
"What's the next play?" Estrella asked innocently, and Kennedy answered with confidence.
"First step is Geri," she said, motioning to the woman of few words. "You move over to the cruiserweight division. And you dominate." Geri nodded her head in compliance, knowing that was a role she would find herself comfortable in. A role that she knew was attainable. "And Estrella..." she began. "You took it to Claire a couple weeks ago. You had that title won. It's your time to reign supreme."
Estrella smiled and took a huge sip of her drink, playfully nudging her body into Lissie's. Lissie's eyes widened in sexual frustration, adjusting in her seat. Kennedy noticed and smirked at her discomfort.
"What about us?" Lissie asked, challenging her new ally. "What's next for us?"
"Have you looked at next week's card?"
"Yeah, we're both in triple threat matches. Of course, I'm stuck with that fucking psychopath and a walking boner who I've already beaten."
"And I've got two of the golden boys of AW," Kennedy said, confidently. "With Camila watching, with a title vacated... we just go in and handle our business. They'll have no choice but to recognize who the real challengers are."
Lissie nodded her head in understanding. Kennedy was right. This was their moment. This is how they would begin their reign.
The four raised their glasses again, now fully understanding their roles, and seeing that their vision was indeed being realized.
And that's when the cops stormed in.
