Bio: Valeriy is the son of the chief designer of the Vladimir Lenin Power Station built in Chernobyl, Soviet Union. From a young age, he became obsessed with nuclear physics, often solving equations over dinner with his professor father during construction. He later studied in St. Petersburg before completing a PhD in Nuclear Physics at Moscow State University.
He returned to Pripyat to work at the power plant when his life changed as a result of the infamous Reactor 4 explosion in 1986. Hearing rumours that the Reactor itself had exploded, a seeming impossibility, Valeriy elected to climb the roof and see for himself, where he was exposed to a massive dose of radiation. However, unlike most that this radiation touched, it did not kill him, only strengthened him. Aware this would mark him out as a freak and a property of the state, ripe for experimentation, he banished himself into the surrounding forests where he has lived up until very recently.
During his occasional scavenger hunts, he uncovered a VHS of WrestleMania I, clearly contraband at the time. He became fascinated by how this had penetrated through the Soviet bubble and soon fell in love with the wrestling and, more importantly, Wendi Richter, from whom his new surname was adopted in homage. Indeed, it was his only source of comfort during the three decade long nuclear winter. So inspired was he that he would improvise and practise his own wrestling moves on first, dead dogs, then the odd human remnant before finally graduating to live bears. Anything to hone his finisher, The Reactor.
Then aged 55, yet evergreen through the ionising power of the radiation, he discovered his beloved WrestleMania VHS didn't quite have the same shelf life. After all, he had watched it twice a day for the last 30 years. Finally out of irradiated animals to wrestle, clear conqueror of Chernobyl, he finally felt ready to embark on the journey for his true love, Wendi Richter.
Thus began an odyssey southwards. His wrestling career began in Istanbul in 2016 where word quickly spread in Turkish baths of his phenomenal intensity in the ring. He then gravitated across the old Soviet Union - Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, crossing China into Mongolia where he spent 9 months in the heights of Ulaan Baatar learning under Master Gantulga before travelling to North Korea where he felt most at home under the Communist regime. Rumour has it that he helped contribute to the development of North Korea's nuclear arsenal, until he was kidnapped by Japan's Secret Service and was forced to serve as a male Geisha in the shadow of Mount Fuji. But he quickly escaped using his radiation powers and found himself called to Hiroshima. He discovered his powers were enhanced as he soaked up all the remaining radiation from 1945's bomb.
In the middle of asking around if anyone knew of Wendi Richter, he was befriended by a Sumo wrestler called Eisen. This reminded him of Einstein. But Valeriy would resort to calling him Fat Albert. He soon settled at the local dojo where Fat Albert would teach him all kind of Sumo techniques. He also became fond of a local cuisine which enabled him to gain some much needed weight. He even found he was able to digest puff fish, immune to its venom. However, things became somewhat difficult when several members of the dojo started exhibiting undiagnosed medical symptoms. Believing him to be the carrier of an evil spirit, Valeriy was excommunicated.
Homeless and penniless in Ōkuma, he soon gained notoriety for being able to charge people's phones with one touch. Considered a risk, though, to the decommissioning of the nearby Fukushima Power Station, he was soon moved on again. While in transit, he saw a Western woman who bore a great resemblance to Wendi Richter. He then followed this woman over the course of 3 weeks as she travelled across Japan. He tracked her down to a local internet café where he finally discovered the wonderful wizardry of the World Wide Web. He was presented with a search engine home page and the only Western words he knew off by heart were "Wendi Richter". Soon he was overwhelmed with information, opening up 70 tabs of Wendi Richter trivia. He holed himself up in the internet café for 3 days and 4 nights as he processed all he could find on Wendi Richter, spending all of his remaining money. Learning of her upcoming book tour for her book "The Richter Scale", Valeriy resolved to find a passage to the evil land he knows as "The Great Satan", America.
He became a stowaway on a large tanker bound for San Francisco where he was discovered by the crew, led by gargantuan bully Big Phil. Phil attempted to throw Valeriy overboard but was instantly subdued by his radiation discharged might. The rest of the crew, immensely grateful that Valeriy saved them from Big Phil's iron fist rule of the tanker, sought to repay him with the rest of that month's wage packet. However, it would not be enough to get Valeiry to Wendi. Yet one of the crew, Humphrey Turpentine (or "Turps", to you and I) had an idea. Cousin to a prominent official in Action Wrestling and spotting his obvious grappling potential, he was able to arrange Valeriy's tryout. Valeriy agreed, provided Turps would help him to seek out Wendi Richter. Thus, they landed in San Francisco which happened to be the location AW was touring in that night.
Vulnerable to graphite.

The arena descends into darkness as luminous green sparks rain from the rafters. A mash up of the Soviet Union National Anthem and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper plays to a mixed reaction from those in attendance. A montage of equations flashes across the big screen. Valeriy Richter emerges in a white coat and a netted hat, clipboard in hand and pen in mouth. He walks to the ring, ignoring the crowd.
