I just wanted to take a moment and give some tips for writing and advice in general for efedding. I feels its becoming a problem ( in writing hobbies in general ) that people feel burnt out. It happens here and in WCF ( the other fed that most of us have been in ) where you get people that show up, want to promo and end up just not knowing what to do. Hey, that happens. I feel you. I run out of ideas all the time. So I just wanted to give tips and advice that will hopefully help some of you.
CHARACTER:
We all got one but not all are created equal. The difference between what makes a character good and great isnt that you the writer puts themselves into the character ( although it helps ) its that you make that character endearing and believable. If you can put enough of yourself into the character to relate to him/her you can put a level of honesty into it where other will identify with them regardless of the situations. I've heard this a lot, how " I've written Johnny X for 10 years. and I'm out of ideas." After 10 years, Johnny X *should* ( hopefully) be able to write himself. If not, there may be a fundamental flaw in the character or a disconnect between you and Johnny X. If you get too involved with the character you can take the win/loss too serious. I mean, we all get upset over losses but you know the type, the guy who can never lose because he typed it into his bio. You know, Johnny X cant tap because those words exist.
TIPS: Make a character that YOU want to see. Write how YOU want to write. Take the literary liberties that you want. No style of writing is invalid if you make it part of the character.
PROMO:
If you're having honest to goodness trouble with a promo, just PM someone and ask for help. Everyones pretty good about some kind of basic direction. In promos its a good rule of thumb to use the ' sandwich method'
section of character development
section of shoot
development
shoot
Mileage may vary but if you layer your content it'll seem interesting rather than tacked on.
Make sure that there is some kind of structured format to the piece so that it looks neat and presentable. It just makes for an easier read and you won't get docked some subconscious points because the judge had to re-read or try and figure something out. When things look neat, everything flows nice and makes for a good time. Large bricks of uninterrupted text isnt any good if its repeated in the RP.
If you don't know what to write, write something crazy and call it a dream. Write ANYTHING rather than no show. Its the only way that you'll get better as a writer and as a fedder.
DIVISION:
Heres one that doesnt get talked about. Division. ADUB is amazing at breaking the belts up into classes based around word limit. with that word limit comes a certain level of skill. If you don't think you can make skill with the world champ, try to stay in a title range that challenges you enough to get better. Hell, PM tort and let him know how you feel. You might not be bound by word limits but the skill limit is a thing and its scary at times. If you want to get better ( there was a ooc thread on it ) but if you want to get better, read ppl who think are really good. the one solid way to be a better writer is to be a avid reader of content. And there is plenty of good content in ADUB
If you think you arnt good, you'll get better. I used to be straight trash till maybe 2010? A solid 10 years into doing this. I still have poor grammar and spelling. So it's not like this is a perfect science and we all have off days.
The main point is to stick with it, even if you feel you got nothing for the week because thats how you get better and thats how winning is done.
