Character Name: Rei Maeda
Nickname: Sunshine; Your Unproblematic Fave
Hometown: Raleigh, North Carolina (by way of Katagami, Akita Prefecture, Japan)
Height: 5'5 1/2
Weight: 136 lbs
Alignment: Face
In-Ring Style:
Rei is, primarily, a creature of habit whose typical strategy includes a barrage of lightning fast, deceptively heavy targeted strikes to wear opponents down and soften them up for a range of submission holds. To that end, she's something a coy opportunist: while she won't brazenly break the rules or perform some heinously unsportsmanlike act, if the opportunity presents itself to accidentally jam her thumb into an opponent's eye, knee her opponent in the groin, or grind an opponent's fingers under her heel, etc. she'll happily take it. However, a showman at heart, Rei often finds herself growing bored of her usual gameplan and attempts to dazzle the crowd with high-flying maneuvers that backfire about as often as they connect.
tl;dr: A sneaky dirty striker & submission grappler whose affinity for high-flying moves helps and hinders her in equal parts.
Bio:
A third-generation member of an infamous wrestling family in her home country of Japan, Rei Maeda finds herself in an awkward position: that of the white sheep. Seemingly lacking the ruthless, conniving nature that characterizes the rest of her family, Rei left for the States to forge a name for herself, free of her family's reputation and toxic influence. However, those ties are not so easy to sever.
Attire:
x, x
Theme song: The Regrettes — Lacy Loo
Pic Base: Hana Kimura
Entrance:
The Regrettes' "Lacy Loo" hits the speakers and the stage lights cut out, before pulsing red in rhythm with the instrumental stabs. Once the instrumentals finally kick in for good, Rei Maeda emerges from the back, seemingly dragging her interpreter/manager Zoe Comtois behind her by her hand. Zoe slips her hand free of Rei's grip and the pair make their way to the ring, Rei slapping hands with just about every fan she can on her way down the ramp.
Adilene Floyd: Making her way down to the ring, fighting out of Raleigh, North Carolina, she is Rei Maeda!
At ringside, the pair stop and turn towards each other. Zoe says something that the cameras don't pick up, to which Rei nods before turning away and walking towards the ring steps. She ascends the stairs and steps under the middle rope into the ring before making her way to her corner.
Favorite moves:
Knife-edge Chop
Open-handed Palm Strikes
Kicks of all flavors
Elbow strikes of all flavors
Knee strikes of all flavors
(seriously, she throws a lot of strikes)
Hip Attack
Pronating Wristlock —> Step-up Knee
Dragon Screw —> Knee Stomp
Swinging Neckbreaker
DDT
Tope Con Hilo
Standing Moonsault
Diving Crossbody
Diving Elbow Drop
Signature moves:
Surprise! — High-Impact Clubbing Blow that would strike an opponent in the back of the head, but Rei has a habit of getting an opponent's attention just before connecting (so they get caught in the temple/jaw)
Finisher:
When it comes to ending a match, Rei is incredibly utilitarian and indiscriminate. Rather than rely on one specific, tried and true hold to regularly end matches*, any jointlock or chokehold she's able to cinch in can theoretically end a match (think more MMA fighter than pro-wrestler). However, in instances of desperation or when she just can't seem to cinch anything in, consider the following:
Penalty Kill — Sprinting Big Boot to an opponent seated/kneeling near the ropes (demonstrations: x, x, x)
* However, on rare occasions Rei will resort to one specific, tried and true hold to definitively end a match. Either due to frustration, hatred, or just because nothing else will do the trick. Consider this a super finisher of sorts:
WMD — Kimura-grip Fujiwara Armbar
(note: if she does break this out and get it locked in, she will not release it until the bell rings. of course this doesn't mean it's inescapable or anything, but say for instance an opponent manages to get to the ropes, she'll wind up losing via DQ for not letting go. she isn't quite all there if this thing gets used, basically.)
