Another day was another session. Lolo Tasyo acting as coach scouted the movement of both his students. Chris, using the Yaw-Yan kickboxing techniques he learned, attempted to overcome his sole partner Serena with “bolo” punches and kicks. Serena as always went to go defense with her discovered karate blocks to deflect his strikes.
For Lolo Tasyo, Chris was indeed improving. His lost with Nikki Vaughn served as his catalyst to push himself. However, he is still undisciplined as always. Looking at Serena, she already knew what she was doing. The elder taught her some blocks that would help not only Chris to increase the power of his strikes but for her to condition her forearm’s resilience.
Chris attempted to hit Serena with a Left Jab, while she clashed with a Right Age-Uke (Rising Block). Every time Chris strikes, Serena used her forearms to deflect. Here are the chains of blocks and strikes after Chris’s left “bolo” punch: Right Back Fist/ Uchi-Uke (Inside Block), Left Vertical Hammer Fist/ Right Age-Uke and Right Hammer Fist/ Left Soto-Uke (Outside Block). As Chris went of a long-ranged left Shoot Kick, Serena combined her Right Gedan-Barai (Downward Block) with her Left Knife-Hand Chop. Her combination made Chris stumbled to the floor. Serena picked his left foot locking in the Heel Hook. Chris’ nerve from there forced him to tap out.
“Hay naku!” Lolo Tasyo sighed. “Bakit hindi mo pinigilan agad?” (Why didn’t you block it right away?)
“Eh, paano ko yung pipigilan?” (Then how am I supposed to do that?) Chris angrily asked.
Lolo Tasyo quickly grabbed his right forearm and shoved it into Chris’ face giving him a hint. “Ito! Itong braso mo ang dapat gamitin.” (This forearm! You should’ve used it to block.) Chris tugged off his forearm and threw some tantrums at the old man.
“Anong problema mo at bakit umiinit ang ulo mo?” (What is your problem, and why are you so hot-headed?) Chris pushed Lolo Tasyo off towards the chest. Now the rage fired up, and a brawl broke between two of them. Serena grabbed Chris in restraint while Paco and Isidra went for Lolo Tasyo separating them. Noises were scattered everywhere, for the room’s ambiance with Chris and the elder was the loudest. Suddenly while the other three tried to calm both down, the old man had enough of this. “Tama na!” (Enough!)
Lolo Tasyo raised his finger pointing at Chris. “Namumuro na ako sayo, bata ka!” (You are getting into my nerves, kid!) He stared furiously at Chris’ face. “Maraming beses kita tinuturuan at dinidisiplina, pero nanatili ka pang matigas ang iyong ulo!” (I have taught and disciplined you many times, yet you remained to be stubborn.)
“Pwede na nga sana kung hindi ka sumisigaw.” (It would be better if you’re not shouting.) Chris pleaded.
“Ulol!” (Stupid!) Lolo Tasyo exclaimed. “May magagawa bang mabuti kung idadaan kita sa paki-usap?” (Will it be effective if I ask you nicely?)
“Oo. Napatunayan ko na magagawa iyon mabuti.” (Yes, I have proved it in the past to be effective.)
“Ganon ba?” (Is that so?) Lolo Tasyo questioned as he only saw his arrogance. “Sige, tingnan natin kung tama ka.” (Alright! Let us see if you are right.) Lolo proposed as he challenged Chris to a fight.
“Sige! Hindi ako magdadalawang-isip!” (Sure! I will not hesitate!) Serena was terrified. “Chris, stop this! You can’t fight him.”
Chris scoffed it off, and he moved Serena away from him. Lolo Tasyo wriggled Paco and Isidra off from their restraint. He turned up both of his palm, extended and retracted his fingers signaling Chris to bring it on. Chris began to wipe off from his mind everything that the old man teaches like it was all trash. He went to the "traditional" wrestling stance before he met him. Tasyo gave Serena an instruction, “You referee while we fight, understand?”
Serena wasn't sure if this is right. But does she has a choice? Both of them ignored the peacemaker for now. She just nodded and stood between both of them. Lolo Tasyo proceeded with his kickboxing stance. Serena gave both of them a signal, “Ready?”
Here it comes.
“FIGHT!”
With haste, the old man dashed towards Chris with a blitz of combinations consisting of punches, elbows, and kicks. Chris tried to take the elder down, but his adversity prevented him from doing it so. As Lolo Tasyo wore him down, he went for Collar Tie Position transitioned into Front Chancery rolling into a Frontal Guillotine. He leaned on the floor while locked in. And Chris tapped out.
“Lolo Tasyo wins!” Serena declared.
Chris was surprised. For an old man, Lolo Tasyo managed to beat him up in a minute. He was experienced after all. But Chris denied it thinking that it was a fluke.
“Teka lang, ang bilis mo! Bagalan mo naman!” (Wait for just a second. You’re too fast! Make it slow this time!)
The old man sighed and looked at Serena. He gave her a signal. “Ready?” Serena checked on both sides.
“FIGHT!”
This time, it was slow and paced. Lolo Tasyo switched stance into a grappling position, the same style as Chris played. They both clash trying to out-grapple at both them. That was until Lolo Tasyo used his quickness to catch Chris’ leg by surprise. He tripped his other foot down to the floor and twisted the foot he was holding. The elder proceeded with a Heel Hook forcing Chris to tap out.
“Lolo Tasyo wins!” Serena declared once again.
Chris again could not believe it. But he refused to give up.
“Teka lang!” (Wait!) Chris interrupted.
“Ano na naman ang dahilan mo?” (What is your excuse this time?) Lolo Tasyo was tired of it. He decided to stop it right there. “Sabi mo, papatunayan mo na mali ko. Eh, wala ka namang ginawa kundi puro satsat!” (You said that you prove me wrong. But you are just all bark and no bite!)
Lolo Tasyo directed his finger to Chris once again. “Alam mo, bilib ako sayo noong una pa lang. Mabait ka at mapagkumbaba. Natandaan ko noong bata ka pa lang, masunurin ka. Pero ito ka ngayon, mayabang, matigas-ulo at pikon. Akala ko tama ang sinabi ng iyong asawa mo na mababa lang ang tingin mo sa sarili. Pero mali pala ako.” (You know, I expected great things from you. You were kind and humble. You remembered you when you are just a child. You were obedient, but wow you are arrogant, stubborn and short-tempered. I thought your wife was right about you being a lowly-minded person. But I was wrong.)
Chris was offended about this. Why did he bring up his wife for this? But more than that, he was like stabbed straight into his heart. Some of it was the truth. He tried to reflect himself. Maybe he was right all along. How can he let himself caught off-guard?
Lolo Tasyo saw a light from his stubborn-hearted student. Perhaps he just realized little by little. But he got tired of using his energy to teach Chris a lesson. He left Chris lying there and said, “Maiwan ka nga dito. Sabihin mo sa akin kung tapos ka na.” (I’ll leave you alone. Talk to me when you’re done.)
Lolo Tasyo opened the door and went outside. Paco saw Chris broken in half, exposing the faults that he has. As Isidra walked out of the room, Paco decided to join her instead. One by one, everyone else left the room even Serena. She didn’t hate him, she just disappointed. She tried to dissipate her build-up hate towards him. It would be best to leave him alone.
Everyone left Chris crouching down and looking deep into the wooden floors of the room.
8:45 pm
Using cheap groceries brought from a local store by Serena, Isidra made a meal for themselves. It was dinnertime, and Paco set up the paper plates and plastic cutleries. As it was all done, Lolo Tasyo signaled them, “Kain na tayo!” (It’s time for dinner!)
Paco and Isidra washed their hands first before they proceeded to their seat. It was the first time that Paco heed the old man’s instruction. However, Serena and Chris were not present. “Nasaan sina Kris at Serena?” (Where’s Chris and Serena?) Lolo Tasyo asked.
“Tawagin ko po sila.” (I’ll get them.) Isidra responded as she stood up from the table. She went out of the room and saw Serena from the entrance. She informed the blonde woman, “Ms. Serena, it’s time for us to eat.”
However, Serena kept biting her nails. Something bothered her mind. She was very disturbed over something. So Isidra asked, “Is there something matter?”
“Chris! He’s still not returned.”
“What?!”
Everyone was shocked that Chris hasn’t returned yet. Where could he be?
Realizing how mess he was, he found himself on the pub sitting in the counter. He held a mug of beer in his hand. He poured the drink to his mouth then slammed it to the table. He hoped that all of his problems swept away, his sudden nature, his failure, and his hypocrisy.
He then glanced at the mug, “Bartender! One more please!”
The bartender placed a beer on the counter and passed it to Chris. He then proceeded to give another shot of himself. After “few” drinks later, he went out of the bar. He paid the bill, of course. But despite that, he walked groggily for being intoxicated with alcohol. He was having difficulties to walk that he began to depend on the outer wall. As he reached to the entrance of an alleyway, Chris felt that his throat wanted to eject something. He covered his hand and began to find a spot. As he saw one, he started to vomit.
He thought that was over but another wave of puke coming in. He then spewed it out again. Once he finished, he began to feel drowsy. He can’t get himself back to the place where Serena and other congregated. He can’t walk straight or even stand up. He got plastered at this moment. So he decided to spend his night besides the dumpster.
He leaned on its cold steel and began to close his eyes. His vision began to slip away. He, sleeping beside the trash box reminded himself that he was a piece of garbage - no, beyond that. Salem ousted him from his residence. The Household Dungeon stripped him off as one of the proudest trainees. Lolo Tasyo pointed out his flawed decisions. And Serena was disappointed at him. Maybe, soon, Sakuya will leave him, no longer want to be with him anymore.
He thought of himself that maybe, just maybe, he should kill himself, because, in the end, he was just a reject. Maybe he’ll do that soon.
After seconds, probably minutes or hours of contemplation, he felt that someone tugged his hand.
These were the account of his dream before he woke up.

7:46 am
A headache on his head greeted him. He pressed it with his fingers trying to ease it. He looked at his surroundings. It turned out that he was back from the place they congregated. From the old walls to the wooden floor, from the cracked ceiling to the poorly painted railings of the bed, he found Serena laying her head beside him. Her face got wrinkled. Poor woman! He wanted to wake her up, but he thought that it would be best to let her be.
“Gising ka nga pala.” (So you are awake.) Someone spoke to him. Good thing, Serena fell deep into her sleep. Chris looked at someone talking to him. It was Paco, his younger brother. Right away, his brother began to spew questions gently. “Saan ka nangaling? Bakit ka pa lasing? Hindi mo ba alam na nag-aalala ang kaibigan mo dahil sa iyo?” (Where have you been? Why are you drunk? Do you realize how your friend were sickly worried because of you?)
Chris glanced back at Serena’s wrinkled face, a premise that she worried about him so much. Guilt began to choke him realizing the entirety of his mistakes. With that, his tears began to roll on his face.
7:35 pm
“So Claire Hawkins and Sam Kidsgrove were in the same faction?” Chris recalled.
Serena hummed stating that he was correct. Chris pondered it like something’s fishy about the match. Why is he facing both members of the same faction in a triple threat match? All they know about them is that they already established their names in Action Wrestling. Apart from their performance, there are no more and no less.
Speaking of factions, Serena reminded of something. “Say, Chris, do you remember that one guy you faced three years ago?”
“What about it?”
They went to discuss the "guy" in the past. She ended it by saying: “Different circumstances, but the same principle.”

He baffled on why she insisted on carrying him. He thought of himself as a mess. But she scoffed it off. One time, they found themselves a bench. They decided to rest themselves there.
She looked at him melancholy and feeling sorry for himself. So she placed her hand on his cheek. Another mystery came from her and began to call him, “Anak”. It is a Tagalog word meaning child or son. She followed with a question, “Bakit ka nagkaganyan?” (It was translated as “What happened to you?") From that pointed on, his eyes swelled with tears. His lips began to shiver. It was like something struck to his heart.
He began to ask himself the same.

At the time he woke up, his demeanor suddenly changed. He tried his best to keep his temper control and be submissive. Lolo Tasyo was grateful for that. However, if you asked him, it wasn't enough. Chris should've done that sooner. For that, his strikes and movements will be stiff enough for his triple threat match against Sam Kidsgrove and Claire Hawkins. It is prestige because it is for the #1 Contendership for the United States Championship.
Our mentor saw it as a problem. He saw that Chris was still overconfident. He might lose his focus if he kept his eyes on the prize and not on the match. Overall, Chris has a lot to learn before pursuing the contendership.
It may not be related to match, but it may be possible that our mentor detested Chris going for the United States Championship. I've read some of their histories. They had a war against the Americans, some of them loathed the Americans ever since. However, some like Chris just scoffed it off. It was like part of history. Everything changed.
I am not in their position to step in. I'm an English person though. But if Chris can do this, he'll better be focused. Sam Kidsgrove and Claire Hawkins already established themselves in the Action Wrestling business. The match is not a cakewalk like his match against Dark Tiger and Evander Cage. I advised him to be focused. I hope he takes heed.
Yet another challenge lies ahead.
