Evolution…
It's Action Wrestling's biggest show of the year. It's also the biggest show I've been a part of in a long time. To think it almost didn't happen. If I had lost to Lizzy Dalmon, I'd be on the outside looking in. When it comes to my career, that could have been the death knell.
It's fitting that this show is called Evolution.
I've definitely had to evolve throughout my career. When I was young, I used to be really into the hardcore stuff. I'd put my body on the line in any way possible. It's how I was able to break into the business.
Of course, the high flying was always there.
As I've gotten older, I've had to change and adapt. You don't make it to twenty-eight years without doing some fine tuning. I never would have made it here today if I'd stuck to my reckless ways. I'm a little more well rounded. A little more safe.
The high flying is never going away.
It's time to finally take the next step in my evolution. It's time to become an AW champion. I've failed so far in taking the next step. Now I have another shot on the biggest stage.
It's time for me to fly!
Muru hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and his carryon. The airport was busy, which was to be expected. This was something else though. The whole world was descending on the area for Evolution.
Muru: Hopefully I can get to my hotel without much distraction.
Usually Muru wouldn't be opposed to meeting and greeting the fans. This weekend is different. He needs to stay focused.
Muru: It's too bad I couldn't fit everything in this bag.
He makes his way to baggage claim as fast as he can. Some people point and stare but he doesn't stop. They are probably looking for Teo or Gerard. It's possible they are looking for Vespertine. Apparently she's part of the ultimate Asian clique.
Muru: Here comes a kid with a magazine and a black Sharpie. Nope!
He cuts behind someone in a wheelchair. Having avoided that close call he finally makes his way to the luggage carousel. Will his suitcase actually be there?
Muru: Awesome!
Given his appearance, the word seemed appropriate. He grabs his suitcase and heads to find himself a ride to the hotel. He flags down a cab driver and gives him the directions.
Cab Driver: So what brings you to town?
Muru: I'd rather not talk if possible.
That's when the taxi man turned on the radio and a Jay-Z song was on.
I know that to some people, the Television Championship isn't that big of a deal. In the hierarchy of titles it's not at the top. We all know the World Heavyweight Championship is the top prize. That doesn't mean there aren't other prizes to be had.
I for one would be proud to call myself Television Champion!
My attempts to capture gold in Action Wrestling haven't gone very well. It seems no matter how hard I try, there's always another obstacle to overcome. My obstacle at Evolution isn't going to be any easier to get past.
Johnny Eden is the real deal
I shared a ring with the kid and saw first hand what he could do. He's definitely destined for greatness. He'll be winning championships long after I hang up my boots. Like the song says, his future's so bright he's gotta wear shades.
The thing is, we're in the present.
I know that beating Eden is easier said than done. The taste of success is addictive and I know he's riding that high. The problem is, that high eventually runs out. Then you have to get back to business and realize there's a target on your back. The most important thing to remember is this.
Just because you're champion it doesn't mean the obstacles go away. If anything they get bigger. One day it's smooth sailing and then you run into me. I know the name Muru doesn't make anyone shudder, I'm not Mufasa for Pete's sake. Once that bell rings?
I think maybe the second guessing starts.
Beating Muru doesn't seem like it would be that difficult. He's old. He's past his prime. He's shit. I've heard it all. The problem is, I may not win them all but I win enough to still be dangerous.
I'm not as predictable as I may seem.
Eden called me a warhorse. My longevity speaks for itself. It's hard to quantify exactly what my experience brings to a match. I've seen a lot in this business. I've seen the next big thing come and go. I've seen the can't miss superstars. I've seen guys just like The Saint.
I've outlasted them all.
Johnny, let's get real for a minute. I'm not sure if anyone outside the two of us even cares about this match. I get it. The card is full of amazing matches. There are outlandish gimmick matches that are sure to have the fans talking. There's also heated rivalries months in the making.
We don't have any of that.
What we do have is a match between two of the best this company has to offer. The two of us have an opportunity to show the world that at the end of the day, just being the best in the world at our jobs is enough. The two of us are wrestlers after all.
Isn't this a wrestling show?
When the night ends, we'll know who is better. One of us won't walk out of SoFi Stadium as champion on a fluke. The two out of three falls stipulation will prevent that. I know how hard we've both worked.
This match is going all three falls.
I wish you nothing but the best. Win or lose, the drinks are on me. I'm ready. I know you're ready kid. I'll see you out there.
