The past couple of weeks have been some of the toughest of my career. I don't think people can truly grasp how much of a toll the Pure Cup can take on you. It sounds easy enough. All you have to do is make your opponent submit or knock them out.
It's not easy at all.
I look into the mirror, and it reminds me of everything I went through to win. I see the endless bruises. I see the darkened eyes. I see the staples used to close the gash in my forehead. What do I see most of all?
Failure.
Once again I wasn't able to complete the task at hand. I went against everything I stand for in my match with Niobe Martin and it meant nothing. Jody Madrox and I went to war and I was on the losing side. I had more to give but the referee decided it wasn't to be my night.
He waved the white flag.
It doesn't matter that it was out of my control. The result was the same as it's been since I returned to Action Wrestling. I'm just a well traveled hand. I do enough just to be credible and make my opponents look good. I'm here to help make stars, not be one myself.
I reject that.
Everyone should know by now that I don't give up. I'm not going to let setbacks stop me from having success. Does it bother me that a week after I made her tap out, that Niobe won the US title? It does. Do I get a bit irked when Johnny Eden rolls in and becomes TV champion? Of course.
But that just fuels the fire.
Not everyone is going to agree with me, but I've still got quite a bit left in the tank. I've got another opportunity this week. I won't let this one go to waste.
Ryan: You need to take it easy…
It's been nothing but business as usual for Muru. Just because he is beaten and bloody, doesn't mean he can take time off. He won't let another member of the AW roster pass him by.
Muru: I'm good. Let's go again.
The two men lock up inside of the old ring, inside of the even older building.
Ryan: I'm surprised you still come here. I thought you would have upgraded by now.
Muru: It's starting to grow on me.
Ryan: Better amenities might make for better performances.
Muru: That's not why I can't get over the hump. I also think this place has character. Money doesn't replace hard work and effort.
Ryan: Your opponent this week thinks otherwise.
Muru rolls his eyes. He's not happy about having to fight yet another woman. This one doesn't even have the experience to keep herself safe.
Muru: I'm not thrilled about it. I don't understand why wrestling companies keep throwing money at people who already can buy whatever they want, and internet celebrities.
Ryan: I hear that man. I'm still unemployed. It's a damn shame.
The two men take a break from the grapples.
Muru: I really need this win.
Ryan: Then stop your yapping and let's go.
This week I'm facing the newest member of the Action Wrestling roster. I'm not young or hip to what's popular, but I've heard of Lizzy Dalmon. It wasn't until I went down the rabbit hole of Instagram posts and TikTok videos that I got a better idea of why she's so popular.
She's rich and beautiful, and that gives her power. Her fans follow her without a second thought. It's really quite remarkable. I wish I could hold that kind of influence. I'm still confused as to why she's gotten involved in professional wrestling. My best guess?
Because she can.
It's a bit of a slap in the face to someone like me. I've given over half my life to this business. This isn't something I chose to do on a whim.
This is my everything.
I want to compete at Evolution and this might be my last chance. All I have to do is beat you Lizzy. I won't underestimate you. I saw your impressive debut. I just know what I bring to the table.
This is a match I should win.
I know the AW brass is losing faith in me. There's a reason why I'm in the ring with Lizzy Dalmon. It's because they want to offer me up to her. If you beat him maybe you'll have more people believing this trust fund baby might just make it.
I won't be a sacrificial lamb.
That's why I'm glad to have someone I know will call it down the middle in Johnny Eden as the referee. He could easily go rogue and hand select the winner. He could pick what is best for him, for his Television championship.
I don't see him doing that.
He called me a warhorse this week. I think he would be honored to face me. The honor would be all mine. We both stand for what is right in this business.
Hard work and dedication.
Lizzy you've never had to work for anything. It must be nice to have everything handed to you on a silver platter. If you're expecting me to lay down and let you beat me, you've got the wrong guy.
I have too much pride to do that. If you're thinking maybe you could use your daddy's money to pay me off ?
I can't be bought.
We're about to have a fight on our hands girlie. I've already proven that I won't hold back. If I gave my all against Niobe, I definitely will against you.
It's about respect, and you don't have mine.
When the bell rings, you're going to come to understand that this isn't fun and games. I want you to remember one thing. There's no shame in losing.
Just ask me.
