The mighty DRAUGR has risen to great power. He is the current, reigning, and conquering United States and Tag Team Champion. This is the comeback that nobody saw coming. Certainly not his daughter-in-law Sara Pettis or granddaughter Lexi Sparkles. They believed they had brought him into the light and saved him from the treacherous clutches of those who thawed him out last year. They thought they had brought him to the promised land. Following detrimental losses to Jessie Lee and Jody Madrox, the jokes about the dragon being slayed grew more absurd. They called him weak. They called him a joke. And then when his granddaughter came into the picture, they called him old. Weak. Joke. Old. Only the latter is true about the mighty DRAUGR. He still possesses strength beyond strength. There is nothing humorous about the violence he has bestowed upon Action Wrestling. Ask Jonny Cedrone how weak the man who took his United States Championship truly is. He has yet to fully recover from their encounter. Ask the New Brotherhood how funny the mighty DRAUGR is. Oh, you can't, because they bailed the moment he ended their Tag Team Championship reign. The mighty DRAUGR certainly can be defeated. He has lost seven times since his debut at XIII in October. Of those matches, there are only four combatants who can truly claim victory over the mighty DRAUGR: Jessie Lee, Jody Madrox, Tatiana Jolee, Doc Holiday. It would be irresponsible to claim that those four got lucky on those fateful nights. They earned those wins and the mighty DRAUGR was punished for each of those losses by his handlers in the shadows. Devil’s Gate has done more damage to the mighty DRAUGR than anyone in Action Wrestling, and he comes out stronger each time. Even now, enhancements are being made to ensure his success in his defense of the United States Championship this coming Monday against Jessie Lee. She will no doubt be riding high from her victory over the mighty DRAUGR at Holiday Bash, but this is an entirely different monster than she fought before. Since that night, he has embraced his humanity and regained the majority of his memory… but was also lured back into the darkness where the experiments continue to this day. Jessie Lee has not fought this mighty DRAUGR, and she will regret her decision to challenge him for the rest of her life. Every tasteless utterance from her filthy mouth has been played on repeat for the mighty DRAUGR, while he is hooked up to all sorts of devices to measure his brain waves and heart rate. The rage builds inside of him at an uncontrollable rate. He watches as she calls him the newest dog in the Devil’s Gate pound. He watches as she calls him a vile, monstrous, cold-blooded bastard. He watches as she says he’s been washed and made into nothing more than another mid monster made to be thrown away. The rage builds like a seething storm that threatens to consume him whole. Nobody has been able to get underneath his skin quite like Jessie Lee, as she was the first in Action Wrestling to truly put a dent in his otherwise impenetrable armor. The fire inside burns hotter than ever as he is forced to watch highlights of that match, or rather… lowlights of him being beaten senseless by the woman who took the Television Championship from him. Retribution is being burned into his psyche as he is only a few days removed from the sequel to the fight that showed the world that he could be beaten. Two titans in this industry will clash for the United States Champion, and only one of them will be worthy of carrying the title afterwards. The arena will be filled with insurmountable tension the moment they lock eyes. The roar of the crowd will undoubtedly shake the earth. This showdown is about more than just the title they both desire. It is a struggle for supremacy and stature in this company. Jessie Lee craves recognition for her skills and passion for excellence. She carries the burden of being a stalwart in this legendary organization. It’s the same old song and dance, each and every time she makes an appearance. The more things change, the more she stays the same. Always shouting. Always swearing. Always believing in herself, no matter the odds stacked against her. That blind optimism is how she lost the United States Championship last year to The Sitcom, and lost the Television Championship this year to Driller Jaworski. Her inability to comprehend reality led to recent losses to Muru in a contendership battle royal, and to Jonny Cedrone in the Road to Havoc Tournament. And yet, here she is, challenging the mighty DRAUGR for the United States Championship. Here is a man, a myth, a legend… soaring high above the clouds of notoriety… carrying on championship legacy forged by the likes of Sam Kidsgrove, Dandy DiVito, Watler, Kyle Kemp, Wesley, Graham Baker, Der Metzger, and John Blade. Such prestige that only he is capable of carrying on his broad shoulder until the end of times. What chance does Jessie Lee stand against a living mountain of a man? Without the use of steel chairs, what innate weapon can she wield against a living, breathing tank? Keiner. Through all of his rage, there is calm that courses through his veins when the highlight reel ends and he is handed the United States Championship by his handler, Pete Harper. The mighty DRAUGR holds it close to his chest and closes his eyes, imagining all of the bodily harm he will cause Jessie Lee in just a few days at Monday Night Clash. He knows in his heart of hearts that there is nothing she can do that he has not already done to himself. From the moment he arrived at Devil’s Gate over fifty years ago, to the moment he clutches the United States Championship in this cold, isolated chamber. A flood of memories overtakes him and he is whisked away to a fantasy realm. In another life, he was a happy, normal man. Had he not signed his life away to Devil’s Gate, he would have been present for the birth of his son. The wrestling business would be worse off had he not given his life to Devil’s Gate, and he is suddenly brought back to reality. Pete Harper stands before him, shouting commands while his brain fog dissipates. In a sudden burst of clarity, he rises from the chair and grabs Harper by the throat, effortlessly lifting him off of the ground and feeling his heartbeat slowly fade. It isn’t long before a faceless druid enters his peripherals and subdue him with fifty thousand volts of electricity from a taser. Der mächtige DRAUGR ist gefallen. Our adventure begins in the boardroom at Action Wrestling headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada. There we see Sara Pettis and Lexi Sparkles, along with their lawyer Christian Laurens. Sara nervously fidgets and catches Lexi’s attention. “Everything okay, Sara? You look flushed.” “This room is… all too familiar. I spent a lot of time in here when--” Lexi’s face shows that realizes this is the place where Sara met with lawyers following Raging Dead’s untimely demise four years ago. Sara’s eyes well up and Lexi gets up, rushing over to hug her. Christian has a confused look on his face. “Is there anything… I can do?” “Turn back time.” Sara half smiles. Lexi snickers as she returns to her seat. “I wish I could… but only if I could know what I know now. Ya know?” “I sure do. Christian, I’m so thankful that you agreed to work with us. I know we take up a lot of your time and efforts, so I hope you’re okay with everything.” “As long as the checks don’t bounce, I’m good to go for whatever you ladies need. I don’t think you remember when we first met.” “Of course I…” She shakes her head. “No, sorry, I don’t.” “Three years ago, I came to a show with my boy Damian Kaine. I was hangin’ out with all the stars, and you were one of the few who said hi to me. Most of ‘em just walked on by like I was a ghost.” “Oh, wow. Yeah, I try to treat everyone with--” They are interrupted by the double doors swinging wide open and a team of lawyers enters the room, followed by Dr. Erik Konnors. They sit down at the end of the long table, with Konnors sitting at the head. Christian clears his throat. “Thank you for joining us, Doc-- “There’s no time for pleasantries, pettifogger. Every moment spent in this wretched city of sinners is a moment I am not preparing my mighty champion, the strongest of the strong, the destroyer of all things, the undeniable-- “Cut the shit, Konnors! You are holding my father-in-law against his will and subjecting him to--” “Against his will?! Hardly! The mighty DRAUGR chose to return to his rightful place by my side! There is nothing you can say to prove otherwise! Without my guidance, he would not be United States Champion! And that tiny girl there wouldn’t be a Tag Team Champion! So, uhh, you’re welcome!” “You brainwashed him all over again, Konnors! Vik deserves better!” “Don’t you dare claim to know what the mighty DRAUGR deserves! You certainly don’t know better than me! He deserves to sit atop a throne of skulls and lear over the masses! Had you not taken away his true power, he would be World Champion by now!” “Don’t try to spin this, you quack! I saved him from--” “You saved nothing!” “I know what you did to him after he lost to Jessie Lee in December! I saw the scars! What are you going to do to him if he loses to her again?!” “The mighty DRAUGR will NOT fail again when he battles that gutter-mouthed harlot! He will crush her bones into a powder and fashion her skin into a new mask! At the end of it all, he will still and forevermore be United States Champion! He will certainly outlast the previous Devil’s Gate record with that championship held by that mongrel Der Metzger!” “Devil’s Gate doesn’t belong to you! Legally, that archaic asylum belongs to me! I don’t know where your base of operations is, but it is not Devil’s Gate!” “It doesn’t matter what it’s called or where we are preparing the mighty DRAUGR for the slaughter of that trollop Jessie Lee! What truly matters is that he will be ready, willing, and able to execute our precise orders!” By now, Lexi’s emotions have taken control and she lunges from her chair. She hops onto the table and charges at Konnors, who is unable to react quickly enough to evade the double knees to the dome that send him crashing to the floor. Lexi rolls off of him and goes back to the attack, feverishly laying down some vicious fists to his face, until there’s more blood than there is face. Members of Konnors’ team rush to remove her from his face, and they drag her out into the hall. Sara and Christian are quick to go after them and-- "It's been too long since I've had your skin beneath my fingernails, Jessie Lee. Five months since the last time it was just you and I, under the hot glow of the lights above. The relentless assault we unleashed on one another was almost... euphoric. Nobody has made me feel quite like you did on that night. I look back fondly at the moments of passionate hate we shared. Are you as enthralled by our reunion on Monday as I am, Jessie?" "I hope this feeling is mutual, but I understand if this is all too much to take in." "You awoke something inside of me." "And I can't wait for you to do it again." |
