It should be me…
When you look at the card for April Fools Gold you'll see a match for the Omega Championship. In this match Jody Madrox will be defending his title against The Green.
It should be me…
It would have been a treat to face another person from the Detroit area. It would have been an honor to defeat the Da Geto Boy and walk out a winner. Could you imagine what the fans would think if they saw Muru walk out with the belt around his waist? They would know that this comeback isn't just some old man's sad attempt at reclaiming past glories. They would know I'm for real.
It should be me…
Instead victory was taken from me at the last possible second. The Green stole it from me. I didn't receive the mystery reward I fought so hard for. The only mystery people are talking about is, why does Muru think he belongs?
I needed that victory to prove to myself and everyone else that I have what it takes. I needed to prove that I belong and though it might have been somewhat of a fluke, my win over DRAUGR meant something. That wasn't meant to be. Now it's back to the start.
When it comes to how success is measured in Action Wrestling…
It will be me…
It's been a couple of days since March Madness took the city of Calgary by storm. Instead of heading home or heading to Henderson, Nevada, Muru is still in town. He could be anywhere else but he finds himself outside of a familiar diner.
As he stares at the building from across the street, he wonders if he should even bother with going in. A chance meeting with a beautiful waitress isn't exactly an open invitation to stalk someone. Stalking is probably too strong of a word but Muru does want to talk to her again.
Finally working up enough courage to enter, he takes a seat at an empty booth. It only takes a moment before an older, less attractive waitress greets him.
Waitress: Can I get you something to drink?
Muru: Actually, I was wondering if I could have her be my waitress.
He points to the woman who has been running through his mind the past week. The other waitress rolls her eyes as if this is a common occurrence.
…Maybe I am a stalker.
The waitress has made her way over to where the other waitress is and points to the booth.
…Here she comes.
Emma: The wrestler has returned. You must have liked your food the first time.
Muru: It was pretty good.
Emma: I thought the show was over. What keeps you in town?
…You
Muru: I just don't have anywhere better to be. Speaking of the show, I was sad to see you didn't make it.
Emma: I made it clear I wasn't going to.
Muru: I noticed the seats were taken though.
Emma: That was my brother and his boyfriend. I figured you wouldn't want the tickets to go to waste.
It's getting a little awkward between them.
Emma: So, are you ready to order?
He hasn't even looked at the menu.
Muru: I know this is probably going to sound a bit unusual. As good as the food was, that's not why I'm here.
She raises an eyebrow at him.
Muru: I was actually wondering if you might like to go out on a date with me sometime.
Emma: Believe it or not, you're not the first man to ask. It must be the uniform.
He chuckles. He believes it.
Emma: I appreciate you asking but I don't think that would be a good idea.
Muru: Why is that? You don't like fun?
It's her turn to chuckle.
Emma: It isn't that. It's just at my age I'm looking to date with a purpose. I want to build a life for me and my daughter. I'd like to find someone who can be a part of that.
Muru: Are you saying I can't?
Emma: You're cute, but there could never be anything long term between us. You're in town on business. This isn't your home. You don't have a life built here.
Muru: I could…
Emma: You're just going to change your whole life for someone you just met.
Muru: I'm saying that in the right situation I could. There's nothing stopping me.
She sighs.
Muru: I can't predict the future. I just want to take you out and see what happens. One date won't ruin your plans right?
Emma: I…
Muru: No pressure. How about you give me your number and we can talk? I think it might help you decide.
She thinks for a moment and then scribbles something down on her order pad.
Emma: Fine.
She places the paper down in front of him.
Emma: So are you going to order or what?
I'm not the biggest fan of battle royals.
There's just something about packing a ring with that many bodies that doesn't sit well with me. It's hard to keep track of all your opponents and overall it's just too unpredictable. You can be the best wrestler in the world and have things go poorly for you. One minute you're on top of the world, ready to win the whole thing. The next? You're on the outside. What happened?
Maybe you slipped on some of All Beef Patty's special sauce.
Or worse…
You landed face down in it…
I apologize if you lost your lunch. The point I'm trying to make is, it's unpredictable. What makes this one even more so is that it's for a contendership. What title? Does it matter? We all get wide eyes at a chance for gold.
I'm no different.
There will be ten men and women in that ring. Each of us has the same goal. I like to think I have a few advantages. One, in my twenty-eight years in the ring I've been in more than my share of battle royals. Two, I'm Muru…
Sometimes that's enough.
I'll start with the only person I've been in the ring with, Isara. I talked about how bad my night was at Match Madness but yours was obviously worse. There's a difference when it comes to confidence when you're the one who gets pinned. I'm not sure things will be much different for you this week either.
What's worse than one All Beef Patty? Two. After what she did to poor Bruce Hart she should be discontinued!
I actually thought I might have a guardian angel in Lexi Sparkles. I'm starting to think I was wrong. She hasn't appeared in my life since. Even if she wasn't an angel I thought maybe she might be an adoring fan. Part of me was maybe the young girl might have a crush on this old man. Either way I'm not sure I could hurt her. I can't say the same for everyone else.
I'm really looking forward to meeting Freddie Prinze Jr. I enjoyed his movies though I'm not sure what he's been doing lately. I guess he was training for a wrestling career. Good for him. I wonder if he'll bring his wife. I'm pretty sure he won't be a threat. Wait! It's not Freddie Prinze Jr? It's Freddy Woah Jr? Who's that? I'm sure he'll be no problem either.
After all that Freddie Prinze Jr talk let's move on to the mystery entrant. It seems fitting as Freddie played Fred in Scooby-Doo. What a stretch. Action Wrestling sure loves its mysteries. Not much I can do to prepare for the unknown. Like I said, a battle royal is king of unknowns. I guess whomever it is will fit right in.
Desmond Holiday, the man with too many nicknames. Yet he goes by Doc. Wouldn't that be considered a nickname? Anyway, what's up Doc? I better you've only heard that about a million times. I bet you're itching for another chance at being champion. It wasn't long ago you were the United States champion. With the talent level here that's pretty impressive. It looks like you're used to success. I remember that feeling. I'd like to feel that way again.
I don't know much about TJ Alexander. I know what a surprise. I told you I'm new here, I'm trying to get caught up. I do like a kid who can perform in the air though. That's how I became The Greatest Show on Earth. Of course I'm not able to keep up with all the flipping and flopping of today. Back in the day though, a simple frog splash could bring people to their feet. How much going to the top will we do when it puts us at risk?
Wow I'm in a watch with someone who's been in Action Wrestling forever. Congrats Jaice, what an accomplishment! It probably sucks to be in this battle royal with a bunch of people who don't quite have your accolades. Former World champion? No. United States champion? Not that either? Oh I found a title win about six years ago. You go tiny!
Jessie Lee, I'm running out of time so forgive me if I don't give you the time and respect you deserve. I'll be honest with you. I feel like you're my biggest threat. You're kind of scary. I'm conflicted on if that's a good or a bad thing. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would find pleasure in causing you pain. I like my girls a little softer. Think Lexi not Patty. I'm sure my preferences won't stop you from trying to kick my ass.
Alright boys and girls, we might not be the main event but I know we can put on a show. We don't have to have a lumbering battle royal. We can use this match to put ourselves on the map, or for some back on the map.
I believe that any one of us can win this thing…
