***bored, just wanted to put something else out there***
“Training with friends”
Place: Vespertine’s Private Dojo, San Francisco, Ca.
Time: 11AM
Date: Dec 16th, 2023,
Background Music: A Japanese flute lightly plays in the background.
(the camera fades from black to a scene inside a dimly lit Dojo. It is sparse and bare with an altar on the left side of the room with pictures of people and candles interspersed between them. The camera pans around the room and on the walls we see a lot of tapestries hanging on each side of the room on one of the walls. If one looks closer we can see they are the history of a war that went on 600 years ago between the Koreans and the Chinese. The camera pans around some more and we see three women in the room. All three are in different colored karate outfits. They are Gail Kim, former WWE diva and long time friend/mentor of Vespertine. She is in a black karate outfit. Vespertine is in a white karate outfit and her hair is tied into a pony tail in the back. The last women is Lucy Liu, movie star and current star of ABC’s show Elementary. She is a long time friend of Vespertine’s. She is in a sort of brownish karate outfit. As we watch them, Lucy sits on the floor cross legged and Vespertine and Gail Kim go to a spot somewhere a few feet in front of her and stand looking at each other.)
L: When you are ready, you may begin.
(both Vespertine and Gail bow to each other and then bow to Lucy.)
L: Begin!
(Gail and Vespertine twirl around each other slowly at first then they speed up and then Gail does a swirl kick on the ground and Vespertine jumps over it.)
L: Be one with the air.
(Gail and Vespertine slowly go to mirroring each other in a Tai Chi type of dance. They slowly move their arms and hands side to side and twist their body ever so slowly. They start to go around in a circle, each mirroring the moves of the other.)
L: Remember, to be a master of Zen, you have the control of the elements. And to have the elements control you. Almost like Kung Fu in that way.
(Vespertine does a spin roundhouse kick and Gail ducks under it. Gail sweep kicks and Vespertine jumps over it. They go back in mirroring the moves of the other person. They slowly twist and turn and end up back to back with each other.)
L: You must let go. You must lose control. For in losing control, you will gain control.
(Gail and Vespertine slowly step around each other and mirror the moves of one another. Gail raises her right arm and Vespertine her left arm, they bring it across to the other side of them and then make it go back to the original position it was in.)
L: Like water flows smoothly down the path towards its destination, you must flow smoothly in your everyday life.
(Vespertine squats down and Gail does a really slow roundhouse spin kick over her back. Vespertine does a slow sweep on the ground and Gail jumps over it. They speed up just a twitch and then go back to the Tai Chi they were doing before. They step a foot apart from each other and then each mirrors the other in their moves.)
L: You must learn. For in learning you become stronger. Always learn, always practice. In doing so, you will know from the mistakes that you make and in learning these mistakes is the way to become a better person, a better warrior.
(Vespertine gets into a handstand in front of Gail and Gail moves forward to grab her legs. Vespertine, on her hands, turns around and Gail pushes her legs forward. When they get to halfway point at a 90 degree angle, Vespertine stops and slowly comes back up.)
L: It is wise to know your opponent. For in knowing your opponent you know yourself. In knowing yourself, you know your place in the universe.
(Vespertine cart wheels back up to a standing position and then gets into a defensive Tae Kwon Do stance. She jumps and does a rather slow jump front kick over the head of Gail who moves her arm up to shield her from the pretend blow that is coming. Vespertine lands on the ground and at the same time, Gail moves forward and punches and comes within an inch of her face)
L: It is not the triumph but the struggle. It is not the destination but the journey that should be focused on.
(Vespertine twirls around, Gail mirrors her and they come face to face at the end of the twirl around. They start doing a Tai Chi arm movements and twirl around each other.)
L: You must practice. You must always practice. By practicing you become better, stronger, faster and more well rounded. As the saying goes: “To be the man, you have to beat the man.”
V: Ok, Ric Flair.
G: Lucy, when were you ever a follower of wrestling?
L: A long time ago. I have been too busy to keep up to date on the wrestlers nowadays.
(both Vespertine and Gail crack a smile and then go back to being serious as they twirl and dance some more in their Tai Chi ritual. Vespertine breaks out a caporeira kick and catches Gail off balance. Gail lands on her back on the floor.)
G: Ow! I thought you said we weren’t doing any caporeiera moves?
V: Do you know any?
G: Not really.
V: Sorry.
L: Vespertine! Typical! You broke concentration and in doing so, failed the ritual.
V: I know. (to Gail) Start over?
G: Sure. Warn me if we do a caporeira move, ok?
(they start the ritual over and twist and twirl around each other in the slow Tai Chi fashion. One foot here, one foot there. Another foot goes somewhere else in that slow moving way that Tai Chi is so famous for.)
L: You are water. Over time, water breaks down rock. Rock can break rock quicker than water can but our path, our road is not to be quick but to break down all components over time.
(Gail gets into a handstand and Vespertine moves forward to grab her legs. She turns Gail and pushes Gail’s legs forward to where they are at a 90 degree angle. As in the first exercise, Gail does the same thing and slowly brings her legs back up.)
L: Everything in the world is connected in some way. You to your friend, you to your enemy, you to your life force. When you realize all the connections to you, enlightment soon follows.
(by now Gail and Vespertine are sweating as drops of sweat fall from their brows. Their arms go into a circle around them as they mirror each other at the apex of each circle, they move one leg up and get into the standing stork stance.)
L: For every beginning, there is an end. And for every end, starts a new beginning.
(Gail and Vespertine break out of their stances and bow to each other)
V: You wanna try with quarter staffs? (as soon as she says that, Lucy gets up and goes into the darkness)
G: Wow. Haven’t done that in a while. Did your sensei teach you my way?
V: What’s your way?
G: The way of air and water.
V: No, Stick taught me a much more aggressive way. The way of fire and earth.
L: Those will do. (Lucy has reappeared in the light and has two quarter staffs, one in each hand. She throws one to each woman.) Remember all you were taught. Remember all that you know. Remember all that you can gain from your opponent. Gail, what can you gain?
G: Knowledge!
L: Vespertine, what can you gain?
V: (smiling evilly) Their chi.
G: Wow, Stick was a mean sensei wasn’t he?
V: Let’s just say he never went easy on any of us.
L: Remember what you stand to gain and what you stand to lose. Are you two ready?
(both women bow to her. Lucy starts the match and in a whirl of speed and cloth rustling, both Vespertine and Gail twirl around each other and hit sticks. It is your basic Japanese style vs. Korean style quarter staff fight with neither woman gaining the advantage. They fight for several minutes and sweat breaks out on their brows so by the time they are done, they are sweating profusely. Then they start getting into Matrix type moves and using the sticks as leverage as they jump over each other and run up the side of the dojo walls. For a while Gail backs Vespertine into a corner and then Vespertine does a move and sends Gail scurrying away and backs her into a corner. This goes back and forth for some minutes as they do a sort of dance and then suddenly both hit the other’s stick at the same time with enough impact to break each stick into two.)
G: Looks like this time we are equal. (holds up her broken quarter staff to emphasize her point.)
L: Let me go get you a couple more quarterstaffs.
(Gail and Vespertine go to their gym bags, grab some waters and take a couple of sips while Lucy disappears into the shadows and the camera pans closer to Vespertine and Gail Kim)
G: Are you worried about your match at Holiday Bash?
V: Not in the least. Should I be? Remember what you said at dinner the other night. If this isn’t over a title or a belt, just go in and have fun. So I’m going in to have fun. And what’s going to be fun is dancing in the ring with a fellow female warrior. I will beat her. Plus I'm using her as a stepping stone. It’ll be good practice for better men like Downfall or back to Sitcoml.
G: So you think you have this match then?
V: Oh yeah, I got this. She is no match for me. I said to her last promo that she was equal to me and her moves were equal to mine. Ritual dancing with you two really helps to ground me and focus me.
G: That is true. This is the best I have ever seen you be too.
V: Thank you. You’re not so bad yourself for being out a couple of years now. (she stops to think) A couple of years. Does that make you an old woman?
G: And you've been doing this for 5 years so you aren't a spring chicken either. I’m not out of the wrestling business entirely.... yet.
(both of them laugh)
V: Bitch!
G: Whore!
V: You know it.
(they get serious again)
G: I saw that match between you and Sitcom. I don't wrestle but even I would say never get a 7 foot tall giant mad. Can I add that he is 200lbs heavier than you?
L: And good 4 feet taller as well.
V: I made him stand up and take notice. DIdn't even dent Odin so I'm looking past that to Niobe
G: Good. Is this your first match with her?
V: Yes. And I'm ready. More than ready. Last time I was this ready was in WCW when I formed that all women stable, called AWW
G: (chuckles) Yep, aka Awesome Women Wrestlers. Didn't fit with Angel of Darkness but Brit was good about it. You guys were awesome in your gimmick and three of the best women wrestlers in that fedation.
(They pause talking as they go into a hard part of the ritual.
V: You know, (she pauses) I remember another time, another place, another federation. Do you remember when I was in ACW? Chris Hart liked me, his partner was La Envidia Mata. I asked if I could join their stable and they said yes. Turns out Mata was more threatened by me and wanted me to be more manager and eye candy material than anything else. And you KNOW how I feel about JUST being eye candy. That’s like taking my bite away and leaving me with just my bark.
(Gail nods and then both of them get up and go back to the center of the Dojo floor. A second or so later Lucy comes back with two more quarter staffs and hands one to each person. They both get into neutral stances and turn towards each other)
G: You seem to have gotten a lot better since last time we sparred. But there are areas where you leave yourself open. You need to work a little more to get better but I believe you are there.
(Vespertine bows to her and Gail only declines her head towards her. Vespertine then tosses her quarter staff back to Lucy. Lucy looks puzzled at her.)
V: You need exercise too. I haven’t seen you practice your moves in a while. Why don’t you take my spot and I’ll take yours.
L: But-
G: That’s a good idea. I haven’t sparred with you for a while either. Did you get better because I know that last time I beat you?
V: Twice!
L: We’ll see. (she shrugs and gets into a defensive stance.)
(Vespertine goes and takes Lucy’s spot and then starts the match between them. Lucy and Gail bow to each other and then to her and start to square off.)
V: The Chi is the lifeforce. If you take the chi of a person, you take their soul and their spirit.
(The camera pans up to a point above their head, as the sound goes down, the sound of kendo sticks clashing is heard and the camera fades to black)
