Polarizing High School graduate set to make CruiserClash debut soon
At noon EST today, Nate Nytro, GM of OCW, announced that OCW North American Champion Maya Misako has relinquished her title. After over three hours of speculations, we finally have a reason as to why.
According to Maya herself during an interview with Skybox Sports, she stated that she "traded" her title for a better contract and a spot on the CruiserClash roster. She also explained how she got to this point. Back in December, Maya was offered a conditional, developmental contract with OCW that was good for the first six months of the 2023 calendar year. Since she was still in high school at the start of the year, the contract came with a few clauses that could cause it to extend or end early.
-If Maya graduates on time(May 2023), then her temporary contract would extend to the end of the calendar year
-If Maya gets into trouble in or out of the ring(Including during her basketball season), she risks her contract being terminated
-If Maya is kicked off of the team due to bad behavior, her contract will be terminated
All three of those are strong incentives, but the following one is the most important in regards to this situation.
-If Maya graduates AND she's able to win a title in OCW, then she will be given the option to relinquish that title and her developmental contract. In exchange, she will be offered a new contract to wrestle on the Action Wrestling CruiserClash roster
Despite a few altercations on the court, Misako managed to keep her emotions in check. She avoided getting suspended from school AND from any basketball games(She did still have the most fouls in the state, but she received far less technical fouls than she did last year). Additionally, she graduated from Hope's Peak Academy back in May of this year. She'd go on to win the OCW NA Title a week and a half later. Though she didn't hold the belt for long due to the aforementioned trade, she proved that she was capable of fulfilling the requirements to take that next step up.
Now the question is how will she fare on CruiserClash? The talent and potential are both there, but there are still a few things that she needs to work on. While her in-ring skills should continue to improve with time, it's been said that she's still immature outside the ring. Her temper, while thankfully less volatile, is also a concern. At the moment, the worry isn't how she'll transition as a competitor, but rather how she'll behave in between shows once she gets to CC. Her exact debut date hasn't been confirmed yet, but it is expected to be sometime within the coming weeks.
As always, more information will be provided if more comes in.
