Hey there folks, narrator here! As promised, we’re back once again with a day in the life of your perennial Cruiserclash Tag Team Champions, the #2gents!
Today, the erstwhile gentlemen have been invited to be the special guests in a team building exercise for a corporation at AW management’s behest. Apparently one of the executives is an acquaintance of Torture’s, and given the executives’ recent…unteamly activities, the Gents have volunteered to oversee the teambuilding retreat!
“Alright gentlemen,” Opens CEO Robert Redwood, “Our reputation has gone down the drain lately, something to do with the rest of the country getting poorer while we make more and more money every day. Seems that the average joe doesn’t trust our business anymore! No team spirit, they say! ”
“What’s that sir?” Asks one of the Harvard educated 3rd generation millionaires.
“You know, cooperation, teamwork, that kinda bullshit.” Replies the CEO. “Anyway, to help us rebuild this team I’ve called in a few favors and to help us today, we have world renowned teamwork specialists, and current tag team champions of the world! Who else can give us the motivation and help to force the public to love us again like these two?!”
Andre takes the stage, he gives a warm smile and begins his speech.
“Thank you Mr…uh, whatever your name was. Teo and I are here today as we are an example of team dedication and collaboration. You see, we didn’t become beloved six time tag team champions based on looks, money or bad attitudes, we became beloved six time tag team champions because we believed in ourselves and each other!
But mostly each other. You see, to be an effective team you have to trust your life to the other guy. You have to know that if you fall, the other will catch you. For example, let’s bring Teo up here!”
Teo comes to the stage, smiling meekly and half heartedly waving at the billions of dollars in the room. It’s hard to imagine that the combined wealth of all the people watching still doesn’t pay the daily interest on Andre Jenson’s bank account, yet you would hardly ever meet such opposites in attitude toward money.
As if they’d been practicing for decades, Jenson motions to Teo who stands with his back to Jenson, without a word, Teo flings himself backwards, and Jenson effortlessly catches him.
“That, people is trust! The trust that Teo and I have together, he knows that when he falls, I’ll be there. This is where you guys need to be. To get the ball rolling on this, I am going to catch your CEO whatever his name is. However, he’s going to fall from the stage to the floor in an ultimate act of faith knowing that I’ll be there to protect him. I want you guys to take notice, because this is important. No matter how high the fall, you need to be there for each other, OK!?”
Teo takes a position next to Jenson and addresses the silver spooned crowd.
“While Andre prepares his teamwork demonstration, I want to let you in on another one of our trade secrets on how to be a great tag team. Trust and belief can get you so far but you also have to accept that some things might not be in your control and you have to be able to adapt to any situation. For example, your CEO, whatever his name is, spoke earlier about second chances. We believe that you have to earn those second chances, sometimes hell it’s even a third, fourth, fifth or even tenth chance. However many chances you have, you have to earn every single one of them!
Take our opponents for this week, with a second chance at being third best in the division- and frankly I think I’m being generous here.
Because you see, that’s all that they’ve earned at this point! Oh sure, I’d like to stand up here and tell you that Fite Club is going to give us a run for our money, that the dastardly duo is going to justify the piss and vinegar that they’ve been trying to muster over the past few weeks. But while I was representing our Brand in Havoc- the only Cruiserclash champion to do so, if I may point out, Fite Club couldn’t even be bothered to make an appearance! They were licking their wounds and no doubt taking turns blaming each other for the fact that the Gents are standing tall atop the division we built!”
“Alright Mr. CEO, you can fall on a count of three…One…Two…”
“It’s like, Andre, come here for a moment-”
“Sure thing Teo!”
Andre steps over to his partner without hesitation, leaning on his shoulder as the dull, thud of a CEO hitting the stage behind them rings around the room.
“If I gave you an opportunity to do something, open a business, build a house, a chance, right? I’m placing my trust in you.”
“Absolutely, and I am happy for the privilege.”
“If I just give out opportunities to anyone who asks for it, without being able to trust that person, what do I have?”
“A whole buncha bad gambles and probably empty pockets, I’d say. In fact, if you gave out loans like Bunga gave Fite Club title opportunities, you’d probably find a way to bankrupt even my organization!”
Jenson notices the fallen CEO and quickly goes to help him up.
“See? That’s what I mean! We’re not against giving people second chances, but at the same time if there’s no trust in that person’s ability to make good on that opportunity, well, can you blame us when we drive a matching set of knees into Spayde’s chin?”
“Absolutely not! It’s simply the result of a poor investment in trust! Alright, now dust off your suit, we’ll try this again Mr. CEO- One…Two…”
“And another thing!”
“What’s that buddy?” Jenson asks, turning to Teo as an even louder thud can be heard behind him.
“What happened to Spayde, anyway? She was a genuine killer when she debuted! Now she’s just happy to prop up Zara’s neverending quest to be taken seriously.”
“Oh, who can say? Some folks just don’t have the character to push through multiple setbacks. It’s great when you’re on top, but the moment things start to slip? Suddenly you are flat on your back wondering where it all went wrong.”
“Uh, speaking of that-”
“Oh for the love of- Mr. CEO, look, it isn’t that hard, here-”
Andre goes to help up his Trust Fall partner for the second time as Teo thinks about his friend’s words.
“And that’s the thing! Second Chances are something everyone deserves, but if you rush them, you’re just asking for history to repeat itself! Zara and Spayde both want to be Cruiserweight Tag Champions, but neither seems interested in actually putting in the work to represent the brand! They could have entered Havoc, picked up a few eliminations for the brand! Filmed a promo! Made a T-shirt! Anything! But instead, it’s Deja Vu all over again.”
“Deja What?”
“Deja Vu all over again.”
“Deja What?”
“Deja Vu all ove- see? Exactly!”
“Exactly what? Okay, on Three! One...Two…Three!”
The very addled CEO falls willingly backwards for a final demonstration, and Jenson finally catches him perfectly under the arms, leading to a round of slightly concerned applause.
“See? It’s all about trust, Mr. CEO. Alright, who’s next?”
Jenson asks this question as he immediately drops the relaxed CEO with an even louder thud than before.
“Oh come on now, you can’t expect us to carry you forever!”
“And there you have it. If you can only be trusted to just keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, you’re going to end up staring at the lights.”
The CEO lets out a series of pained gurgles as Jenson shrugs comically.
“That’s the thing about the Gents. We earn our trust by evolving. By changing, by finding out what works and what doesn’t and by trusting that we will always have each other’s backs.”
“And Fite Club will see exactly how a second chance can hurt just as much as the first one.”
“You can trust us on that.”
The Gents take a bow to a round of applause as the scene fades on their exercise.
