One more week, one more match, one more proclamation. That’s where I found myself - as always with the feeling of dissatisfaction. It wasn’t that I was sick of this business, on contraire - I LOVED pro-wrestling. I loved the challenge, the strategy, the feeling when your music hits and the arena cheers (or boos) you as you walk through the curtain.
But if I was being honest…
I was getting sick of things here in Action Wrestling.
“At least I’m booked in the Main Event for a change.”
Still, Torture's words last week left a lingering touch of frustration and disenfranchisement. Who the fuck does he think he is telling me that a division - which had people from outside our federation choking at the bit was a dumb idea? Instead, he’s rather keep the CBS Title - which is little more than a glorified Television Title.
“Been there, done that.”
I grumbled to myself…
Then he goes out of his way to disrespect me? ME!?
One of the FEW people on this roster that can actually WRESTLE!
I'm the most dependable, reliable wrestler on the roster. A woman who has NEVER missed a booking, does ALL the house shows - and even the stupid media stuff while others enjoy the easy ride…
Pfft, he deserved that slap across the face.
This is a guy, who removed the WORLD CHAMPION from the MAIN EVENT and put in the ‘Supermarks’ as a replacement… And he thinks he’s got the scruples to judge ME!?
I could feel the anger welling up in my chest as I paced the small space in the locker room.
I haven’t squandered shit - I’ve never been given a damn opportunity in this place.
“UGH… That prick. How dare he?”
-knock-knock-knock-
My attention shifted to the door of the locker room. Who could that be? I scrunched my nose and moved to the door, opening it up - half expecting a sucker punch, or a headbutt… Instead, I was met by AW’s backstage interviewer Jade Riley.
I sighed and stepped into the hallway.
The cameras were on me, I had little choice in the matter.
I quirked as she kept on going with her fast talk.
“Last week, you slapped the boss across the face on Monday Night Clash. And now you find yourself in the Main Event. Do you think he’s giving you an opportunity to prove yourself?”
That was actually a good question…
Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t?
I guess it didn’t really matter that much one way or another.
“Don’t know, don’t care.”
My response was a smug one… I dared not give too much away, in truth it didn’t really matter if this was some sort of test or not. I was in the Main Event - and I was certainly the best, and most notable superstar on that spot on the card. Plus, I wasn’t just getting back from a boxing match for blood money in Saudi Arabia - so I’d actually be able to MAKE this match.
“Uhh… Well… What about the fact that you’re facing your Battlefield opponent for the second time? The last time you met in the ring, he beat you for the CBS Championship. Will that play into your strategy on Clash?”
“For one, it’s a tag match therefore it’s not a real rematch. This is your classic laissez-faire booking - an effort to get a few eyes on the championship rematch with the addition of two pawns to offer the chance of somebody else taking the fall.”
That much was obvious… Though whether or not one of our tag panthers would take the fall or even possibly get the win was really up to circumstance. It was still a classic trope to book a tag match before the title match.
At least Torture's figured out some of the traditional rules of wrestling.
Maybe that slap did him a bit of good after all?
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh….
That passive-aggressive little cunt.
I gave her an icy glare, gritting my teeth a bit as I pondered putting this bitch in the Sharpshooter right here in the backstage area. Deep breath, Tatiana… Don’t take the bait - she’s obviously trying to push my buttons.
“Look Riley… Monday Night Clash isn’t about the CBS Title, or McKissick. It’s not about Ellie Austin or CJ Walker, both of whom are losers. It’s obvious that the booking committee is looking to bump a buy rate, and that’s cool. But you’re not going to see what you want to see, because I don’t give a fuck about the CBS Championship.”
That was gonna get edited out…
“It’s not really fair to say that Ellie and CJ aren’t good wrestlers. They’re in the Main Event, just like you.”
“They aren’t a part of the bigger picture. Both of them are bright-eyed kids who aren’t going to amount to shit in this business. Ellie is a pair of tits, and CJ Walker is so far up his own ass he can see daylight. They’re both losers, and are just fodder for the fight between myself and McKissick.”
“Sooo it IS about you and Alister?”
I sighed so big and rolled my eyes back so far, I could see the back of my head.
“You know what? Go away”
I backed up, shutting the door in her bitch face.
