“How about I take this contract and shove it straight up your ass.” Kidsgrove snarls at the lawyer across the table. He responds with a smirk and his own lawyer, Clara Coleman shoots him a look and puts her hand on his shoulder in a classic sign of “calm down”.
“I think what my client is saying,” Clara says “Is this contract should be null and void. It wasn’t signed by my client, it was a genuine and honest mistake by his representative and you should in no way shape or form constitute a valid acceptance of the terms offered.”
“It was signed, sent and verified by his representative, we can’t be held accountable for what your client instructs his representative to do or not. So we have to insist that your client fulfils the obligations in full.”
“Notwithstanding the fact he didn’t agree to this, what you’re asking for schedule wise is impossible. You want him to commit to a 12 movie, 20 year deal with massive penalties if he withdraws or can’t fulfil an obligation. Mr Kidsgrove has other commitments. He’s on the verge of winning the Action Wrestling..”
She’s interrupted by unprofessional laughing.
“If you’re saying he’s on the verge of winning the Action Wrestling title then I’m gonna stop you right there - he’s had as many chances as he’s going to get. Please - we all know his contract is up in 3 months and they’re letting him go - this contract begins then. It’s a no brainer - probably why his representative, Zooey signed it and sent it back to us.”
Kidsgrove clenches his jaw. No, the reason Zooey signed it and sent it back was because she saw it on the back seat of the car, as if it had fallen out of his bag and assumed he was interested based on a conversation they had the night after his match against Spence.
Kidsgrove did not realise she was talking about that contract and was talking about signing a new AW deal - so wires were crossed and, well. Here we are.
“You and I know he’s never going to sign another AW contract, they’re making him go through all these ridiculous hoops just to get a title shot again, which he’s blown - they know if he gets another shot, he’ll just blow it. As far as the old man is concerned he instructed Zooey to sign that paperwork and resurrect a career he knows he can do.”
Kidsgrove can’t take being quiet any longer.
“Oh fuck off.” He states, matter of factly. “The old man’s bullshit is why I’ve “blown it” - distracting me on the fucking eve of two of the biggest matches isn’t particularly good for an athlete’s frame of mind you absolute disingenuous dickbag.
We know what’s going to happen, Dion will fail to get the job done and I’ll be the next number one contender to take that title off that fucking prick Angelo in a couple of weeks, so again. Shove that contract up your fucking ass.
Why the fuck are we even here anyway? I’ve got a match this weekend to try and regain the momentum that you dicksticks lost me so I should be concentrating on that, rather than talking to you.
I should be studying the tape, revising my strategy, honing my skills in the gym right now so I can send Holden Ross back to whichever indie bingo hall he came from. I should be preparing my body for a fight, not sitting here being mentally shat on by two overpriced parasites.”
“This is very important Mr Kidsgrove, you should take it seriously..” Begins one of the lawyers.
“Get.
Fucked.
Dickhead.” Is the response.
“What’s important is going out there and making a statement, what’s important is going out there matching Holden Ross for Brutality and commitment. What’s important is me going out there and knocking out a big ol’ hoss who would just absolutely love it if he brutalised me into submission.
The big sadistic fuck - 300lbs of brute force ready to cave my skull in and make a name for himself. Maybe he thinks beating Kidsgrove would be good for a career, maybe he just wants to hurt people - either way it’s a fucking dangerous fight and I can’t be here just pissing about with the likes of you.
Tell me, have you ever been in a ring, facing down a guy that’s the size of a house who only wants to spend the next 30 minutes tearing you apart limb from limb with the satisfaction of a bear eating his first prey of the spring?”
“No, course not. Why would I? I mean why would any sane person? Surely this is another reason to just give it up and honour your contract with the Old Man?”
Kidsgrove stares down the lawyer for a good few moments, contemplating.
“You know what, you’ve made your first good point. Why would anyone sane do this? Why would any normal minded, rational person get in that ring?
They wouldn’t. That’s your simple answer, it just wouldn’t happen. A normal person would look at Holden Ross standing at the other side of that ring, looking like he wants to eat you and be scared. Some of them would bail immediately, some would waver until they realise he’s hiding weapons. Soon as they see that, they’ll bail.
The only people who would still be there are the massively deranged. The sadists, the crazy people.
Here’s where I come in. You see, for all the brutality he loves to inflict on people, for all the punishment he likes to dish out, for all the extreme violence he just enjoys, well, I’ve come to the realisation recently that pain fuels me.
The more pain they can inflict on me the better I become. The more heartache I take in the ring, the more focussed I become. I don’t enjoy the punishment, I don’t love the heartache. In fact it gets worse every single time, but it fuels me.
Every blow I take, every time I am hurt or harmed, every single one of those bruises gives me the extra energy to go that extra mile and do what I need to do. So I’m going to get in that ring and not bail, I’m gonna hope Holden brings everything he can bring because that’s gonna make me feel even better when I dish it back to him one hundred fold. I gotta lot of pent up anger and aggression to take out on some fucker and well, it may as well be a guy who says he can take it right?
So I’m gonna test that. I’m gonna test that more than the big fucking fud tested the boundaries with Serenity Holmes. I’m gonna abuse him so much that even she calls him to see if he’s alright. In a way I think that’s what he needs, he’s just begging for someone to put him so far in the mud that she notices him, recognises him for who he wants her to see him as. A big loveable teddy bear with a heart of gold that just needs someone there for him so he can help to protect her.
Problem is, she doesn’t need any protection, she’s the fuckin Cruiserweight Champ. She’s coming from a bigger, better and more successful lineage. She’s got more talent and fight in her size 3s than he has in his 300lbs of sad sack meat.
She saw him for what he actually is, that’s a sorry excuse for a man, a bully who just preys on people who he thinks are weaker than him. He claims to be this big destroyer, this guy who basically comes in like a wrecking ball, who’ll just take everyone down. And sure, he likes to dish out punishment but at the end of the day he just doesn’t have the heart for this business.
If he wasn’t 300lbs and a big old sack of meat he’d be one of the first to bail when Holden Ross is in the ring, that’s what I’m sayin’.
But you know, if he does want to come in and throw down, give me some much needed fuel to absolutely destroy some fools then I’m more than asking for him to do it. Be my guest, see him give me his best shot. He can do what he wants to me because honestly all it’ll do is energise me, it’ll give me that shot of adrenaline that I need and want. I’ll need everything I can to go take that title off of that dickhead at the end of the day.
You say that these two losses are the end? Fuck that, I mean they were your fault in the first place, but they’ve also served a purpose. They’ve given me a new energy, a new impetus to prove every fucker wrong - especially you.
So for the final time, are you going to shove that contract up your ass or am I going to have to do it for you? I could do with a warmup.”
“You’ll do no such thing.” One of the lawyers quaked. “Miss Coleman, are you really prepared to let your client talk to us like that?"
Clara sighs, she knows she can’t stop her client talking to people like they want to, she also knows they know this too.
“All I can do is give him advice, he’s a free man to say what he likes. I strongly advised him against saying a word in these meetings but I just so happen to agree with him.
You’re dealing with a man here who is no stranger to adversity, you’re dealing with a man who’s had to jump through so many hoops to just maintain his position in Action Wrestling and you expect him to fear anyone? The man doesn’t have fear. He can get in a ring with a 300lb beast without even flinching - do you think he’s scared of a bunch of lawyers.
To this effect I suggest you take him seriously, he has no intention of working for the Old Man, regardless of what the contract says. He didn’t sign it, he doesn’t want any part of it. You need to find a solution because this isn’t going to work for us or anyone.”
“We could take it to court. I’m sure your client wouldn’t want a long, drawn out court case taking him out of action until his contract is over. We could tie you up in litigation for the next year, never mind the next three months. The Old Man has absolutely no problems with doing this.”
Clara thinks over things for a moment. “Can we have the room while I discuss this with my client?” She asks. They say nothing as the other lawyers leave, to go grab coffees and discuss things themselves.
Soon as they go, she looks at Kidsgrove.
“What do you think?”
“I think we have them exactly where we want them - just like Holden Ross I’m going to enjoy every single part of humiliating them in public while beating them until they are bloody and crippled. There’s nothing that’s going to stop me from getting to the top - not Ross, not the Old man, not AW management or Angelo. Nothing.”
“You understand if this doesn’t go our way it’s all or nothing right?”
“All or nothing? Clara, I’ve been living that way my whole life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
They’ll know this soon enough, one by one they’ll all know.
I’m done with hoops. I’ve played nice with these people, now it’s time to roll the sleeves up, double down and throw everything at this. I’ve got 3 months left and I’m playing for keeps, I can’t go back to Hollywood, It’s just not an option. Holden is going to see exactly how serious I am about it.”
“I think what my client is saying,” Clara says “Is this contract should be null and void. It wasn’t signed by my client, it was a genuine and honest mistake by his representative and you should in no way shape or form constitute a valid acceptance of the terms offered.”
