“The more things change.”
“The overwhelming scuttlebutt surrounding this match is that the newcomer is sexualised and obscene is coming for his equal and opposite in this Television Title. In some aspects they may be right, Bruce. That’s a reputation I’ve earned - I’ll wear that as a badge. I come into Action, spouting obscenities and committing vulgarity. It got me noticed. It made people sit up and pay attention, much the way it is for you now.”
“But…”
“It’s old news. It's an antiquated standard. If you believe I’m only about the fucks and cunts today - then your views are as obsolete as the proletariat’s take on the relationship between Lissie Hope and I. I don’t think less of you for that, Bruce. Most people miss the nuance in human hypocrisy. In most cases, I’m the biggest hypocrite of them all.”
“But…”
“This is my Television Title and I am not going to stand, sit or even take a fucking nap and let you take it from me. I’m you’ve got four chances to lay me by the wayside with your outlandish vulgarity, to put me to sleep with your own brand eau de cologne, but that four chances for me to work you at - tweak my game to your weaknesses. That’s disadvantageous to you. I've already shown the masses my growth in the ring, I’ve already proven to them I am more than what they think - in the ring and out. You’ve got to get to that part. Can you, sure. Will you, God knows? But, on my watch I will adapt as you grow. This is match one in the best of seven. You won’t be me now and you won’t beat me in seven. Of that I am certain.”

The Stranger stood over the Doctor and stared at him with death in his eyes. “For weeks, months, you’ve said that you would make her change. You would bring her back to the fold. You’ve done nothing.”
“Adelaide dances to her own tune.” the Doctor murmurs, protesting, “besides, not even running her daughter over flipped her.”
Shaking his head with fury, The Stranger’s eyes grow wider with indignation at the insolence of the man he’s standing over. “It’s time to change how we do things.”
The Doctor snorts derisively, “Are you sure that’ll make a difference?”
“Which begs the question, what is the point of what we do? Execution? Adulation? Ego? What? I can’t speak for you, Bruce, nor will I try but I find myself regularly entering these gladiatorial duels for the purpose of testing what I am, what I can be, what I become. In all likelihood, there’s a deep seated degree of masochism in this for me.”
“And while I can’t speak for your motivations, Bruce. I can derive an opinion from your antics. So why do I think you’re here? Attention. Why do you think that? Because I’ve done it. I’ve made the noise. I've been mocked and ridiculed for it too. Yet, here I am talking to you as the champion you crave to be. With the eyes of the world on me as I continue to dominate this division in near record breaking fashion, as I have the spotlight that you desire and crave so badly.”
“All eyes on me.”
“I walk into any room in our universe and instantly, necks snap and optics are transfixed. That’s me, but it’s clear on the evidence as presented that’s exactly what you want, what you, what you desire. I give that to you, Bruce. I give you the attention. I give you the lauding masses. You can have all of it - until I take it from you.”
“I’m a tease.”
“It’s what I do - I hold the Television Title as a lure. I draw you in. Before you can escape, I have you ensnared and like a good black widow I am devouring your flesh. As morbid and twisted as that metaphor portrays me, the facts ring true. You come into this best of seven series with the belief you will walk away a champion, but let me assure you with certainty.”
“It’s all a fucking illusion.”

Neveah Ainsworth skips gleefully along the yellow sands of Venice Beach, ice cream in her left hand, without a care in the world. Her mother is nearby, but not watching her closely, or at all to be truthful. The Stranger walks up to Neveah with an altered air of authority.
“Hi Neveah.” His smile is slightly off, sinister motivations are hiding behind his eyes.
Innocence isn’t a word that really resonates with Neveah. Given her upbringing by an alcoholic grandmother and mostly absent mother, she looks upon the stranger with much disdain.
“Who the fuck are you?” she spits venomously in the most unchildlike manner.
“I’m a friend of your mother.” he says politely.
“Nah.” she says dismissively walking past him.
The Stranger grabs her around the shoulders and picks her off the ground. Being an Ainsworth woman, fight mode is instantly engaged. She smashes her ice cream into his face before back kicking in the genitals hard enough to make him drop her.
“Fuck you cunt!” she screams as she runs in the general direction of where her mother was last seen.
“This TV Title isn’t leaving my waist. No matter the wild shenanigans you intend to invoke when you enter the arena on Monday, I'm too invested in its prestige. While people talk about the innuendo and raw sexual dynamism I exude. They forget about the violent edge that grounds me - that’s what you need to be afraid of. I’m like a forgotten landmine in the poppy fields of Cambodia - one wrong step and you’ve lost a limb. While you’re looking in one direction, I’m tearing you apart from another. I’m more than you’ll ever imagine me to be and more than you can ever handle, because the more things change.”
“The more they stay the same.”
