“You know, they say it’s when an animal is cornered that it’s at its most dangerous.”
The words that Teo speaks carry a strange emotion with them- although his tone is relaxed, there is a tinge of frustration in his voice, sneaking through despite his best efforts.
“This is my third time facing Serenity Holmes, after all. We’ve faced twice before and both times daddy’s little girl has come up short…and now she’s facing the prospect of being a three-time failure.
Cornered.
Trapped.
Desperate.
Her only hope, the only chance she has of escaping that fate? Of course correcting the downward spiral that Bunga seems desperate to rocket towards its inevitable conclusion? The only way that I lose this match is to assume that I’ve already won.”
Teo chuckles, the gold of the Cruiserweight title reflecting in the dim locker room light, a glint in his eyes behind the red lenses as he seems to consider the words.
“She’s in a must-win situation, a do-or-die circumstance, and that means she’s going to come out, guns blazing, with everything she has! Or else she will forever be known as the girl who when it came down to it, just couldn’t get it done.
Cruiserclash’s greatest what-if, and nothing more. She won’t just fall back to the other divisions, go back to the drawing board, no. She’ll be a punchline, an asterisk on Cruiserclash’s history- the answer to a trivia question!!
And you know? Maybe that’s what Serenity deserves.
I’ve never denied her talent, her potential. She came onto this roster with the kind of tools for success that most stars only dream of. The daughter of a wrestling icon, destined for the business from the day she came into being!
And look at how quickly she has squandered every opportunity she has been given. Her greatest strength, her biggest asset was her fire, her emotion! She roared into every match like a wild animal, drawing on her belief that she was destined for greatness!
But that fire was fueled by one thing, one deeply rooted, irrevocable emotion that fueled Serenity Holmes’s pursuit of glory- her own deep-seated belief in herself. She bet everything on the idea that she could come in and blow through this roster like a hurricane!”
Teo chuckles, looking towards the corner of the locker room- over the lenses he notices a small grey rodent, gnawing on a discarded piece of garbage. It locks eyes with him and frightfully turns, running towards the corner of the room, where it quickly realizes it has nowhere it can go.
“It’s easy to feel strong when you’re feeding on leftovers. Overcoming enemies that might as well not even be fighting back.”
Teo stands up, looking at the rat, looming over it as it looks up at him, eyes darting back and forth.
“But our true personalities are revealed in those moments when we realize we are up against a challenge that we cannot overcome. When we are backed into a corner.
Serenity is in that corner now.”
As if on cue, the rat suddenly leaps forward at Teo, fangs bared! Realizing it could not escape, it has chosen to attack! But Teo’s hand moves like lightning, grabbing the creature in one hand and holding it up towards the camera in one smooth motion.
“Cornered animals are unpredictable. They may faint, they may run, they may hide- but very often, they attack without thinking. In desperation. ‘He’ll never see it coming!’ they think as they make that fatal mistake.
And if you know it’s coming? They’ll play right into your hands.
Serenity, you little rat. Right now you are praying I underestimate you. That I feel sorry for you. That I walk into this match thinking I have you cornered. You still think you’ve got a little bit of fight left in you.
They always do.
You’re not as special as you think Serenity.
You’re in a do or die situation, little girl. All you’ve got is one desperate gasp to get away.
But desperation isn’t as helpful as you think it is."
Teo smiles, considering the animal in his hand for a moment before absentmindedly tossing it over his shoulder.
