“What’s the scariest thing you can imagine?”
The scene fades in on the front stoop of a very large, very haunted looking house- Halloween for the Gents has always been a fantastic occasion, and this year is no exception. And amidst the ghouls and goblins on the porch is the Cruiserweight Champion Teo Blaze belt adorned and dressed impeccably as the Princess Bride’s Dread Pirate Roberts.
“Let me make one thing perfectly clear, Serenity, I am asking you personally to answer this question. What does Serenity Holmes fear? Because I would bet you any amount that if I were to ask her that question, she would offer me a resounding “nothing!”
After all, this is a girl who knows, let me emphasize that, knows in her heart of hearts that there is nothing she can’t overcome! So why should she be afraid? And you know, Halloween is a perfect time to think on our fears. Bask in them. Surround ourselves in them. Revel in the bleak reminders of our darkest secrets!”
Teo swishes his costume’s rapier emphatically, striking a cackling witch animatronic with a small spray of sparks!
“Yes, fear can be a tricky thing. It can cause us to freeze, to panic, to make mistakes, lead to desperation and folly, make us act completely irrational.
So what is Serenity Holmes afraid of then? An interesting question…The obvious answer would be her snarling daddy, who has promised to turn around Serenity’s career! It makes sense after all- the same brash, cocky, and I daresay relentless Serenity Holmes was turned into a whimpering, cowering mouse, hiding her “romance” with Holden Ross while letting him take the microphone out of her hand.
And don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to not have to listen to Serenity’s voice for once- this is the woman who wants to hold high the Cruiserweight title? This is the woman who wants to carry Cruiserclash- a daddy’s girl who can’t even be trusted to speak for herself?”
Teo shakes his head, almost condescendingly, gesturing towards the camera with the rapier.
“Serenity, since you’ve walked in the door you’ve done nothing but pursue championships. First the women’s title, and now the belt that’s around my waist. You see what I have built, what I have earned with blood, sweat, and tears and you want what I have.
But Serenity, you just don’t understand it yet. And three weeks training in your father’s gym just isn’t enough to teach it, either. You have made it clear with every word you speak that you think that this belt will be the thing to make Serenity Holmes, to confirm the greatness that you always knew that you had!
But it just does not work that way. This belt does not confer greatness, Serenity, this belt demands it! When you have this around your waist, you have the eyes of every member of that Cruiserclash roster on you, looking to you for hope, inspiration, looking to take you down!
And you are not. Ready. For. that.”
Teo removes the Cruiserweight title, letting his face reflect in the gold as he looks towards the camera, eyes ablaze.
“What is the scariest thing Serenity Holmes can imagine? Obscurity. Loneliness. Being forced to look in the mirror and realize that there is not a single person in the world there to help her.
No fans cheering her as the conquering hero.
No father in her corner giving the thumbs up to her big win.
Not even a companion to look her in the eyes and warm her bed.
Just…
Serenity.
Alone.”
Teo’s face is stern, the expression in his face as serious as he has ever been.
“That thought terrifies her. It’s why she desperately seeks approval, why she tries so hard to paint her opponents as the flawed villains for her to overcome.
And when you have this belt around your waist?
You are alone at the top of that mountain. The very thing Serenity fears most is what I live every day.”
A deep breath from Teo as he regains composure.
“You may have your father as a teacher now, Serenity…But you’ve still got a lot to learn.
Oh...and Happy Halloween.”
