Character Name:
Brent Alpine
Nickname:
'The Shine'
Hometown:
Rockhampton, Australia
Height:
6'6
Weight:
202 lbs
Alignment:
Heel
In-Ring Style:
Methodical high flyer
Bio:
'Visionary. Artiste. Culture Vulture. Poet. Diplomat. Casanova. Friend. Humanitarian. Peacemaker. Hurculean Chic.'
- Brent Alpine on Brent Alpine.
'Obscure. Bombastic. Legend in his own lunchtime. Rambling bigmouth. Passive aggressive. Desperate. Shyster. Geek.'
- Everyone else on Brent Alpine.
Brent Alpine redefines arrogance. His ego is bloated to pantomime, parodical proportions. Some fans see the humour behind his self regard and cheer him but he is mostly a heel. Any weakness or setback he faces is skilfully reframed as a huge strength or victory. Another main aspect of his character is that he is a fan of backhanded compliments and rarely speaks with blatant disdain towards his opponents.
'The Shine' first shone in Action Wrestling's spiritual successor, WCF, and had a fair to middling career, notably as the last ever US Champion. Just when he looked like he could finally take his much prophesied throne as WCF World Champion prior to the Revenge 2016 main event, a tragedy he thought long buried was dug up by a mysterious entity, leaking evidence to the media. Alpine had killed a child in a hit and run accident back in Cairns, Australia and had not been caught for many years.
Three years in prison for manslaughter sent Brent into a maelstrom of weight fluctuation, addiction and much needed self reflection. Maybe he even learnt a bizarre concept known as... humility? In fact, he asserts that he mastered humility and is now the single most modest individual on the planet.
Little is known about Alpine's 'redemption' journey since the implosion of his wrestling career and his release from incarceration. All we know is that he's here, he's back and he appears to be the exact same person he was before all that drama. Unfortunately. Though he is 57 pounds lighter than when he last stepped into the ring, making him look even more like a beanpole. He's also now 33 but looks at least a decade more weathered.
Another thing that is different, notably, is the lack of the infamous miniature pig fitted with microphone and surveillance technology who used to be basically glued to Alpine's side. Yes, Percy Micro is no longer lurking around, offering his twisted 'guidance' as a guise for a secret rancorous agenda. However, Alpine is not alone. He is accompanied by his reported cousin/step brother (or maybe both) 'The Vulture' Dallas Culture... more on him later. Also, Alpine continues displaying his penchant for pets. This time, his cuddly companion is Roca the Quokka, an endangered creature native to Rottnest Island, Australia. It's seemingly innocent and, unlike Percy Micro, doesn't talk or spy on Brent. Which is nice.
Attire:
His trunks are half bright red, half light blue and have a gold sun pattern in the centre. He comes to the ring wearing a charcoal suit, gold tie and white shirt but removes it prior to each match.
Theme song:
'Gold' by Prince
Pic Base:
Lee Pace
Entrance:
A ghostly synth breathes over the PA.
The first keyboard chord of Prince's 'Gold' blares as a red shooting star firework darts up from the entrance-way to the left rafters. The second chord chimes as the arena lights flash red. The third chord accompanies a light blue star shoots to the upper right of the arena. Blue lights flash to greet the fourth chord.
As the main tune commences, a yellow spotlight covers the entrance as 'The Shine' Brent Alpine steps out from the back to sneers. A shower of sparks surround him, eliciting a brief pop at the spectacle. Brent's cousin/step brother 'The Vulture' Dallas Culture creeps behind, walking Roca the Quokka on a lead. Alpine marches on brashly, slides into the ring and jumps onto the turnbuckle.
Adeline Floyd: From Rockhampton, Australia, weighing 202 pounds... 'The Shine'... Brent... Alpine!
'The Shine' glares in comical intensity and lifts up the back of his suit jacket like a Batman cape. He dismounts and hangs his jacket on the turnbuckle. He leaps onto the opposite turnbuckle. He removes his tie and long white shirt and throws them into the crowd, now ready for the match ahead.
Favorite moves:
Enziguri, Hurricanrana, Hanging Suplex, Russian Leg Sweep, Spinning Leg Drop, Leg Hook Reverse STO, Diving Leg Drop, Powerbomb, Cannonball Senton (opponent on ground against turnbuckle), Standing Moonsault, Topé Suicida, Shiranui, Diving Crossbody, Uppercuts, Spanish Fly
Signature moves:
Mount Unpleasant (Camel Clutch - Brent will often say things like 'I'm sorry', 'This is just business', 'I mean you no harm' while performing this move)
Fruit of the Vine (Chemical Imbalance 2/Double Pumphandle Wheelbarrow Driver) - move goes straight into pin
Finisher:
The Glow Worm (Cutthroat Swinging Neckbreaker - usually preceded by a kick to the gut)
Manager:
'The Vulture' Dallas Culture's relationship to Alpine is unknown. Is he his cousin or step brother? Or maybe both? They are cagey about this but clearly have a tight bond forged through many years. Culture trained as a wrestler and was allegedly rather good. However, he had a spiritual awakening and decided that he was a pacifist. He began to channel a being known as 'Angel Aurelie', succumbing to a trance state, adopting a shrill female voice and divinely preaching anything from Culture's WCF career to 'care bears' to the 'poop' of the 'crystal children'. He also exhibited a relentless infatuation with the female foot.
During the last ever WCF show, Culture revealed that he was the mastermind behind Percy Micro. He has since denied this in a Reddit AMA, claiming that WCF officials asked him to feign this in order to finally bring some form of closure to the story.
More recently, 'Angel Aurelie' departed Culture after he suffered an unfortunate injury following a kick to the head during a yoga class (allegations that he was sniffing the accidental perpetrator's feet have been ruled as unsubstantiated in a court of law). Dallas has lost any thread of spiritual guidance and now cuts a dark, eccentric figure. He is doom mongering, cerebral and speaks in abstracts.
As yet, there is absolutely no explanation for why he accompanies his cousin/step brother Alpine, apart from maybe to look after Roca the Quokka at ringside.
[Culture's picbase is Matthew Foley]
Roca the Quokka is Brent's pet who never leaves his side. Unlike Percy Micro, he doesn't appear to have a mic and spy equipment attached to him and isn't a trojan horse sent by a malevolent nemesis (rumoured to be a fellow wrestler). Or at least he doesn't seem to be...
