**--Jonny is in his gym doing his usual routine when he had to air some grievances. He took out his phone and started filming his words--**
“Y’know. I get it. Things happen and they usually happen for a reason. I mean the card could’ve been overbooked as it was. A slight overlook. A plethora of things coulda happened that left me off the card for one of the biggest pay-per-views in the industry – Action Wrestling’s Uprising. Surprisingly enough they left Elijah Martin off of the card as well. What were they possibly thinking?! Two of the most talented people on the roster; two of the brightest futures in the company…they were gonna leave us off of the card.”
“I don’t say this often – I think it a lot but I don’t typically say this but – what the fuck over?!”
**--Jonny shakes his head in disappointment and struggles to gather his thoughts long enough to conjure up a sentence.--**
“I…I mean…they…How?!”
**--Okay so Jonny isn’t a wordsmith or a world scholar--**
“How?!”
“So what is it, I don’t make enough noise for your liking? Is it because I prefer one style of wrestling over another and I’ve voiced that preference? What could it have possibly been that kept me off of the card until Elijah did what he did to me?! I mean don’t get me wrong, there’s no love-loss between the two of us. I still don’t like him and he still doesn’t like me. That’ll never change. But honestly if he hadn’t done what he did, if his ambulance chaser hadn’t gotten the contract written up to make the match, y’all woulda watched Uprising without Elijah Martin and yours truly making a good show a spectacular show!”
**--The more Jonny thinks about it the more pissed off he gets--**
“Arrrgh! I mean I know – what’s done is done. It’s in the past. I should just let it go. But if y’all could put yourself into my shoes or even Elijah’s, you’d understand where I’m coming from! I know that I have what it takes to be in the World Championship picture and yet I haven’t been able to even look at the division let alone get a taste of it. Am I too boring to them? Am I not what they want as their World Champion? Are my worst fears true? Do I not fit in this roster?”
**--Jonny shrugs his shoulders--**
“Nah screw that! I deserve to be there and even more than that I deserved to have been on the Uprising card to begin with! I….”
**--Jonny knows that his frustration level is through the roof and stops--**
“Like my dad always said, stay focused on the here and now and what’s in front of you. Handle what you can control and let go of what you can’t. I can’t control what was but what I can control is how this match ends up.”
“Elijah in a weird way I guess I should be thanking you for attacking me from behind. If it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t be standing here today about to go to war at Uprising! We’d be at home watching everyone else’s spotlight shine while ours just dim into the darkness. But because it happened and because your little lawyer friend made it happen – sooner or later you’ll thank me for kickin’ his ass – you and I get to go out there and let our spotlights outshine all of the others as we show them that they just don’t make that mistake of leaving us off the card!”
**--Jonny pauses to ponder a second--**
“Shit. Ladies and gentlemen, Elijah and I are gonna tear down the house Monday night and shine brighter than a million suns and in doing so – I actually kinda hate to admit this but – we’re actually gonna do Action Wrestling a favor. “How?” you ask? Because we’re gonna put on the best match of the night, we’re gonna steal the show and we’re gonna give every one of you a reason NOT to turn the channel; we’re gonna give every one of you a reason TO buy the pay-per-view; we’re gonna get more eyes on the product than the rest of the card combined! Elijah, you and I are gonna be the sole reason why this pay-per-view will bring in more money than any other pay-per-view…ever! Then…and only then will Action Wrestling realize how big of a mistake they almost made by leaving us off the card!”
**--A smile actually cracks across Jonny’s face. A small one but still a glimmer of hope and satisfaction--**
“I’m stoked. I’m so stoked for this match! I owe Elijah a debt of gratitude but at the same time I owe him a receipt like no other! Though there’s no bump, I still have that reminder from a couple of weeks ago. Every once in a while the spot still throbs a bit. It’s still tender. But I promise you that the ass-kicking that I’m about to administer to him on Monday will be anything BUT and a far cry FROM being tender! I know we’re gonna put each other through absolute Hell Monday night – I fully expect it and I’m prepared for it. It’s gonna be so brutal I’ll have him tell me “Don’t Be Cruel” at the pay-per-view and I’m pretty sure that I’ll be telling Gloria to “Love Me Tender” later on.”
“So to all of my fans out there and all of the fans of Action Wrestling, you cannot miss this pay-per-view! If there’s EVER a show that you can’t miss, it’s definitely this one ladies and gentlemen! I feel all of your love, all of your support through all of this and believe me I love and support every one of you just as much as you do me! I’m gonna hop of here and finish my training for the day I just wanted to get on here and share some of my feelings. Thank you for your time! I appreciate each and every one of you! I’ll see you at the show Monday night!”
**--The scene fades to black then cuts back in Jonny’s office. He’s overlooking some paperwork then gets a sly grin on his face. A knock is heard on the door--**
“Come in!!”
**--The door can be heard opening then closing. Jonny doesn’t take his eyes off the paperwork in his hand and is still sporting that grin--**
“Reading old love letters from Mrs. Cedrone sir? Or maybe an old flame?”
**--Jonny looks up and sees that it’s James then puts the paper down on his desk--**
“How ya doin’ James? No. Actually it’s the contract for my match against Elijah Monday night. His lawyer actually put in a clause where the loser has thirty days to request a rematch. Now why would you think he would do something like that?”
“I’m not sure sir. Obviously Mr. Wood is confident in his skills – and rightfully so – and confident that he’s going to beat you at Uprising.”
**--Jonny cocks his head in confusion as he looks at James--**
“Mr. Wood. Elijah Wood? Huckleberry Finn. Tom Thumb. Frodo Baggins! He’s so wise by all of his years of experience!”
**--Jonny just shakes his head in disappointment--**
“You’re just jealous that you can’t beat such a skilled thespian! A true artist!! I just didn’t know he wrestled!”
“Yeah. Neither did I.”
**--Another knock on the door--**
“That just speaks volume to the endless list of skills and capabilities of Mr. Wood!”
“Please come in!”
**--Once more the door can be heard opening and closing. Into the scene comes Tony Malato. Jonny stands up and they greet each other with an embrace before Tony pulls up a seat on the other side of Jonny’s desk--**
“Two men secure in their masculinity unashamed to show one another such affection. I applaud you gentlemen! I really do.”
**--Jonny and Tony just look at one another then back at James--**
“So how’s it goin’ James?”
“Very well Master Malato. I was just explaining to Mr. Cedrone how amazing Elijah Wood is!”
“You’re a fan huh?”
“Oh a big fan sir! You?”
“I mean he’s good I guess.”
“Apparently he’s a wrestler now.”
“Elijah Wood?”
“Shocking I know! I was surprised to hear about it myself! In an even bigger twist of irony, he’s facing our very own Jonny Cedrone at Uprising Monday night!”
**--Tony looks over at Jonny who grins and shrugs his shoulders--**
“I hate to bother you sir but would you be so kind as to get an autograph for me?”
“Sure! Anything for you James!”
**--Elated, James leaves the room. You can hear the door shutting behind him--**
“Bless his heart.”
“Are ya ready for your match against Frodo Monday night?”
**--They share a laugh--**
“I’m always ready for a fight T. I’m ready to get my win back and I’m ready to pay him back for the attack a couple of weeks ago too! But look at this.”
**--Jonny gently tosses the contract to Tony then points at what he wants him to read--**
“Now why would his lawyer add in that little clause?”
“Because he knows that his client doesn’t stand a chance in winning so he wants to guarantee another chance at you down the road.”
“Exactly! I kinda feel bad for beating him up now.”
“Don’t.”
“Ya know this match is the perfect example of making chicken salad outta chicken shit.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well think about it. A couple of weeks ago he and I put on a wrestling clinic in the Pure Cup tournament in what many considered to have basically been a “throw away match” meaning that that was probably the only time we’d see each other. The following week on Clash, he left me in a pool of my own blood in the backstage area. Why did he attack me? Who knows?! He won the match so I don’t see why he’d be so upset. Unless…”
“He knows you almost beat him and it pissed him off so he beat the shit outta you.”
“Exactly. On top of that going into last week we were left off of the Uprising card. Two of the premier athletes ACTION WRESTLING has and they left us off the card! We took our personal differences and our negatives and we used them to our advantage by making this match – putting ourselves on the card!”
“While at the same time resolving your issues with one another.”
“I don’t know about resolving them but we’re sure as hell are gonna put fists to faces! No doubt about that!”
“You need help?”
“I appreciate it but no T. I’ll handle him.”
“If you ever need my help Jon, just say the word. That’s what family’s for.”
“I appreciate it but this is between him and me. I’ll take care of him.”
“Do what you gotta do Jon. The Family supports you 100%!”
**--Jonny nods as the door can be heard opening then closing. Jonny sees who’s entered the room and his face lights up like a Christmas tree! Into the shot comes Gloria who greets Jonny with a kiss--**
“Hi baby!”
“Hi Princess! How’s my baby?”
“I’m good. How’s mine?”
“I’m better than I have been, especially since you’ve walked in.”
“I come bearing good news actually! Sara will be here any second! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen her! I’m so excited!!”
“Sara? McKenzie?!”
“One in the same.”
“Wow. How has she been?!”
“Sounds like you’re about to find out.”
**--The doorbell rings and Gloria excitedly runs off to answer the door. Tony smiles and nonchalantly follows. Jonny is the last to leave the room as the scene fades to black. When the scene fades back in we see Jonny standing alone in another room looking out the window.--**
“Just three short weeks you and I went at it for the crowning of the Pure Cup! Pure Cup III. You and I were in the finals Elijah. You got the win but I gave you a run for your money. Apparently you weren’t a fan. I thought we had some mutual respect for one another. Man was I wrong! You’re just like everyone else, you need to feed that ever-growing ego of yours; no matter how much talent your opponent has it’d kill you to give them a shred of credit or look at them in a different light.”
**--Jonny turns and looks into the camera--**
“Fast forward a week and you attack me from behind. A real noble thing to do, right? I guess you’re not really known for you nobility though are ya? I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. I gotta hand it to ya though! You’re good at what you do! You left me layin’ in a pool of my own blood. You left a lump on the back of my head that even now is still a little tender. You’re good…but not good enough. You left me breathin’. You left a heartbeat.”
“I’d tell you that what you did pissed me off but honestly it was the best thing you’ve ever done. In doing what you did you got us on the pay-per-view. ACTION WRESTLING actually left us off the pay-per-view! Two of the greatest athletes this company has and they left us OFF the pay-per-view! What inconceivably bogus excuse could they come up with to justify such a miscarriage of justice?! The card was overbooked?”
**--Jonny shrugs his shoulders--**
“It’s whatever now I guess. Now it’s Elijah’s and my point to put on the best show on the card! And that we’ll do! Y’all think our match at Pure Cup III was a banger…you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! With the personal vendetta between us, it’s gonna be a true barnburner!”
“Elijah! You don’t like me! Your ego won’t allow you to admit this aloud but I intimidate you. You feel that your ascension to the top of the rankings should go uncontested; that you should be the sole person that ascends and sits at the top of the mountain that is the ACTION WRESTLING roster! But then you and I met at Pure Cup III. You realized that I’m stiff competition. You realized that we both have the same goal in mind: the World Heavyweight Championship and to be the king of the mountain! So what’d you do? You tried to take me out! And you almost succeeded! I’m not too proud to admit that. You put a wallop on me. But like I said, you didn’t get the job done! Now you have to pay for what you did…and didn’t do!”
“We’re two starving lions longing after Championship gold standing in each other’s way to get to where we want to be. Monday night we use one another as a huge stepping stone to get to the top of Action Wrestling! Monday night we prove why we are the cream of the crop and why Action Wrestling committed a deadly sin by initially overlooking us! We are going to put each other through absolute Hell! We’re going to unleash unimaginable pain on one another. I’d say that the last man able to stand will win this fight but neither one of us will be able to stand at the end of this one Elijah!”
**--Jonny walks up to the camera to shut it off but has a few more words to say--**
“Only one of us can win this match Monday night Elijah…and it’s not gonna be you. Just like Action Wrestling is gonna pay for their sins, you’re gonna have to pay for yours as well and I’m looking forward to making you pay!”
**--Jonny makes the motion as if he turned off the camera and walks off-screen. Off camera you can hear James pipe in--**
“Am I interrupting sir?”
“I just finished James. What’s up?”
“I just found my autograph book for you to take to the show Monday night and have Mr. Wood sign it for me if you would please.”
“Sure James.”
**--There’s some silence for a moment--**
“Is the camera still recording?”
“Nah. I turned it off.”
“The red light’s still on.”
**--Footsteps are heard running across the floor towards the camera then the scene cuts to black--**
“Y’know. I get it. Things happen and they usually happen for a reason. I mean the card could’ve been overbooked as it was. A slight overlook.
