**--The scene opens up inside the gym at the Cedrone residence where we see Jonny and Tony training in the ring. Backdrops, clotheslines, bodyslams, shoulder tackles, drop downs, hip tosses, a very intense workout for the two. Into the room comes Gloria. She leans on the ring apron.--**
“Looking good fellas! Tony, looks like you never lost a step to be honest!”
**--Tony turns to respond to Gloria but eats an elbow from Cedrone. Tony goes down like a ton of bricks flat-backing hard to the canvas. He looks up at Cedrone confused.--**
“What the hell was that for?! I wasn’t payin’ attention!”
“Sorry about that T! You looked away at the wrong time and I didn’t have enough time to stop. That was the first rule I taught you anyway! ALWAYS pay attention! Accidents happen! Remember, this ain’t ballet!”
**--Tony looks up at Jonny as if to say, “Really man?!” shakes his head and reaches up for Jonny’s hand for assistance to get up. Jonny obliges and helps him to his feet.--**
“Put some ice on it to keep the swelling to a minimum. You’re doing good. Keep it up.”
“Thanks JC. I couldn’t do this without you.”
“Anytime T. I appreciate your passion.”
**--Jonny exits the ring, stands on the ring apron, turns and faces Tony to finish his thought--**
“Hit the showers and get dressed. Put on a suit and look your best. We got a production crew coming up in a little bit. I gotta cut a promo for the Pure Cup.”
**--From off camera you hear that distinctive voice of James Ellingsworth exclaim…--**
“Oh bloody hell!!!”
**--Jonny, Tony and Gloria look off camera briefly before going about their business. Jonny leaves the scene leaving Tony and Gloria--**
“How’ve you been Tony?”
“Can’t complain. Did some time a few years ago.”
**--Gloria’s surprise isn’t subtle--**
“Accessory to murder after-the-fact. Just an accessory woulda gotten me ten years. After-the-fact cost me five.”
**--Gloria stands there speechless--**
“I would never flip.”
“I would never think you would T.”
“He’s pretty passionate about wrestling isn’t he?”
“Wrestling has been his love for as long as he can remember. He said he used to watch wrestling with his dad every Saturday and Monday. He’s always loved the theatrics, the stories, the athleticism – he loves every aspect of the sport. Always has. He said that he knew when he was eight years-old that he was going to get into the business. Come hell or high water and Jonny went through some hell along the way. Well…you know that.”
“True. He’s done well for himself though.”
“Better than we could ever dream of T.”
**--Tony gives a nod and a little grin when into the scene comes the butler, James Ellingsworth with a towel for Tony--**
“James! How you doin’ my man?!”
“Very well sir. How are you Master Potato?”
“That’s Malato.”
“Nothing. What’s the matter with you?”
**--Tony and Gloria look at one another in confusion--**
“The man thinks he has jokes.”
“Madam Gloria the room is ready for Master Cedrone’s promo.”
“Thank you James. You’re the best!”
“I know.”
**--The scene fades to black and cuts back in with Jonny Cedrone sitting at his desk looking over some paperwork and watching some wrestling matches on the TV. Tony stands in front of the window looking out over the yard.--**
“You really have done well for yourself Jonny.”
“Thank you T. You’ll get there some day.”
“Seems like a long way away.”
“The days and years will pass you by in a blink of an eye.”
**--In from off screen comes James again. Jonny sees him as he walks in.--**
“Master Cedrone your “promo room” is prepared for the dreaded production crew.”
“Thank you very much James.”
“Always a pleasure sir. So who are you facing this week?”
“It’s another Pure Cup tournament.”
“Pure Cup? What’s that?”
“Basically a tough man competition. The toughest son-of-a-bitch wins.”
“You said “another”. Have you been in one prior?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m sure you won of course.”
“The exact opposite. Lost in the first round.”
“I’m shocked.”
“Imagine his surprise sir. He was defeated by a girl.”
“What??!!”
“Oh don’t give me that shit! The women in this profession are no joke! They kick some major ass!”
“And Monday night his first fight is against the Noid.”
“The Noid?”
“The heel from the Domino’s commercials?”
“That’s what the match card said.”
“Look man. No matter what happened the last time. You got it this time. All you gotta do is avoid the noid!”
“Avoid the noid sir!”
**--Tony and James share a laugh as Jonny smirks and shakes his head. He continues watching footage of the participants of the tournament as the scene fades to black. The scene fades back in with Jonny, dressed in one of his expensive suits sitting on his leather chair leaning forward intently looking into the camera--**
“Pure Cup 3. The second Pure Cup – my first one – didn’t go as well as I woulda liked. Congratulations to Alice Gemini though. She certainly is the toughest person on the entire roster and she proved it that night.”
“August 1st we have another chance to crown another Pure Cup winner. Void, Elijah Martin, John Black and myself.”
“Four of the toughest individuals in the business going after one goal – to be the next one to take home the Pure Cup.”
“This time around John Black and myself get another shot at doing just that. The last time we went through the Pure Cup tournament he and I were involved in it. John Black didn’t miss it by much. He was involved in the final match which he ended up losing to Alice. Not a bad thing to go through. Remember? I did it in the first round of that tournament. Definitely no shame at all in that.”
“Now Elija Martin. I’m not gonna lie. I don’t know A LOT about you. I know that you’re a technical brawler. One of the best. As far as I’m concerned he could very well be the most intriguing of this group of participants. The two of us are probably the most technically sound wrestlers in this tournament. But in this type of environment, wrestling skills – though still very important – aren’t exactly the most viable asset to have.”
“My first match is against Void. Interesting character this guy is. He’s another one of those mystical characters. One of many that I’ve faced before. The darkness is his only friend but it’s not only his friend, it’s his fuel source. The abyss keeps him alive. The void isn’t just a name. It’s what fills the space where his soul should be. How do you beat someone like that? I’ve figured it out before. I can and will do it again!”
“Ladies and gentlemen, August 1st. Four competitors. Three Matches. One night! You will see three matches that will consist of the hardest hitting action you have ever seen! We’re all going after the same goal. This is another golden opportunity to make a name for myself here in Action Wrestling. I haven’t really been the luckiest when it comes to these opportunities. I’ve been given opportunity after opportunity but I haven’t been able to cash-in on those opportunities. This HAS to be one of those times where I succeed.”
“I have to admit. I feel like an utter failure and yet you, The People, still support me. To repay you for that love and support. I HAVE to make this one count. I HAVE to cash-in on this golden opportunity and make this one count!”
**--Jonny gets up close to the lens of the camera--**
“Y’all want that badass Jonny Cedrone? Don’t get mad when you get what ya asked for. You might not like what you get though.”
**--Jonny shuts off the camera. The scene fades to black--**
