Ruby, Ruby, Ruby
The scene opens up backstage, and the camera operator tilts upwards to reveal Jade Riley with a microphone in front of a Monday Night Clash banner. She has a smile on her face as she raises the microphone up to her mouth.
Jade Riley: Ladies and gentlemen, my guest at this time, Miss Ruby Goldhirsch!
The Boston crowd gives a reserved pop for their fellow New Englander as the camera pulls back to reveal Ruby standing beside Jade, a wide grin stretching across her face as Jade settles the microphone to Ruby's lips.
Ruby Goldhirsch: Enchantée, Mademoiselle Riley! It's an honor to finally meet you.
A beat. Jade draws the mic back to her mouth.
Jade Riley: It's been clear the past few weeks that you've sought to take a more direct approach to landing clients for DISRUPT, but what's been less clear is the agenda behind it. You've been playing a little coy with it — what exactly are you trying to disrupt?
Ruby Goldhirsch: I think, especially in this industry, when you hear a term like agent, or manager, or whatever your prerogative is, there's a certain type of person you think of. A parasite, a vulture, a leech on the foot of the people who are actually putting their bodies on the line.
Jade Riley: So you're looking to change the perception?
Ruby Goldhirsch: Existence precedes essence.
Jade Riley: I really don't know how that applies to this scenario.
Ruby Goldhirsch: It's not about changing perception, it's about changing the game itself.
Jade eyes her subject curiously.
Jade Riley: Right. Not to dwell on this point, but your efforts thus far haven't exactly been a rousing success. Why do you think that is?
Ruby Goldhirsch: Because the perception is accurate! This industry is filled with the exact type of parasites people think of when they hear the word agent.
Jade Riley: Alright, sure. And you don't think any of your behavior the last few weeks has raised any red flags?
Ruby blushes.
Ruby Goldhirsch: I'll admit what I did last week was not my finest moment, but in truth I can't help but feel this cold spell is predicated on something else. I feel I've been thinking far too small. How should I expect anyone to take me seriously if I'm not aiming for the moon?
Jade's eyes widen.
Jade Riley: Care to elaborate?
Ruby shakes her head.
Ruby Goldhirsch: Trade secrets, I'm afraid. Thank you so much for your time, though!
And with that, Ruby disappears from camera left. Jade stands there for a moment, shaking her head.
Jade Riley: Ruby Goldhirsch, ladies and gents.
