I finally did it. I finally managed to muster the energy and patience needed to grow my own grapevines. ...I mean sure, partnering with a vineyard helped too, but I'm taking the time to go and learn as the process begins anew. I suppose you could say I'm helping grow them rather than growing my own, but the sentiment is still the same, isn't it? It is an interesting process, growing grapes for winemaking. Especially in the frozen tundra that is the twin cities. The most fascinating part, to me at least, is the plant bears fruit with each new branch, not on existing ones. Even more fascinating is how resilient the plant can be, as once the roots have taken, regrowth can happen quickly, whether it is one branch or at the base of the plant. So even if most of the plant is diseased, a simple pruning can revitalize the entire plant. That is the usual apt comparison to any organization, right? That our industry, that any business really, is like a plant? Or a tree? When one part is diseased, we trim to save the rest. Or if it has rotted to the core, we start anew with a fresh plant. Of course, that can have many different interpretations; what is the plant and what is the rot? How do we prune to keep the plant alive? ...If it seems like my thoughts are distracting, its because they are. Because in truth, there isn't much to be said of what is to come. The plant that is the world title has a number of branches that, in a week's time, will be trimmed to accommodate one. One that, hopefully, will bare the fruit of success. You see, in case it was missed, a bunch of us are being tossed together in a match to determine a new number one contender. Now I'm sure everyone that is included in this match-up has good reason to be here. But here's my problem; it makes the current match insignificant. I mean look at these teams they put together. Look at even who is officiating the match. You don't even need to be Salvino D'Armati, the man who invented glasses, to see how this is only going to end one way; neither side is going to win, it will only be a chaotic mess, and someone out there is probably thinking that the already established teams are going to either implode or have some kind of epic staredown to tease a future implosion. And even as I suggest that, the fanfiction writers are already detailing out how Downfall and I will stare "lovingly into each others' eyes." You're welcome. But while this all sounds just awful, I also believe that there is something unique to this particular matchup. Consider the state of Action Wrestling just one year ago; a number of groups put together, but nothing of real cohesion. Now, teams are at the forefront of the main event picture. Why else would we have not one but two sets of tag team champions (albeit paper champions at the moment, sorry Grindhouse) and a third comprised of main event level talent? And to think, all of this came about when we pruned the diseased branch that was Philidor, who seemingly held the world title hostage in a vicelike grip just one year ago. And we can see now how quickly that plant has been reborn, with new faces, new fruit to be yielded. Yet another new chapter in the annals of Action Wrestling. So while the inevitable contest is going to end in utter chaos and uncontrollable violence, also take note of the players involved; from former champions to new hopefuls, from the overexposed to the underappreciated. A win or a loss in this contest doesn't matter, because neither will happen. That is my prediction. What matters is what happens in Atlantic City. And it is there, my friends, that my branch will bear fruit. |
