“Jayson Price”
We find ourselves behind the KFC Arena in Winston Salem NC where the crew and roster of ACTION WRESTLING are filing in to prepare for tonight's CLASH event. Staff, superstars (mostly enhancement talent) file past as if not to pay attention to our feature debutant, Tatiana Jolee (or TJ to some of her closest friends).
“Yes, it’s a good matchup on paper. He’s got a lot of technical prowess and a cocky attitude to boot. He should be prone to an early mistake or two”
Her canuck accent was rather more obvious when pronouncing her o’s… This was unnoticeable to those close to her, but was an instant giveaway to anyone unfamiliar that she was a Canadian. Perhaps it wouldn’t matter?.
What Tatiana did know was that she wasn’t the hometown hero anymore… She was the foreigner, unfamiliar with the topography of this massive federation and unknown to it’s rabidly loyal fans. The challenge was both terrifying and a little exciting at the same time. After all… This wasn’t just some opportunity, but rather a chance to carry over everything she’s worked so hard to establish up north. She wouldn’t have to start over, but rather rebuild what she once had.
A clean slate, with the benefit of both experience and hindsight…
This wasn’t a chance that many would get in a wrestling career, especially at her age.
“No, no… We are opening the main show tonight. It’s a great spot to be booked for a debut… Literally all eyes will be on us. We’ll have a chance to set the pace of the whole event”
TJ made her way through the parking lot, her mobile phone pressed to her ear as she chats with somebody unknown on the other side. Her excitement was present in her voice, and the little bounce in her step was caused by the anxious fluttering of her heart as she gazed upon the large arena ahead. It was really happening… Her dreams were coming true right here in Winston Salem… Ever since she broke into the industry way back in the end of the 1990’s, she dreamt of one day being here…. In America… Working for a massive mainstream promotion like ACTION WRESTLING.
“Of course I’m going to beat him. I didn’t come all the way here just to fall on my ass.” She responds rather curtly to whomever was on the other line. “Obviously he’s going to be tough. You don’t just walk onto this roster by accident… You need to be at the very top of your game to cut it here.” She then adds “Though… He apparently has a love for his booze… So I am a bit worried that he could show up hungover… Or god forbid… Drunk”
Surely that wouldn’t happen… Would it?... ACTION WRESTLING wouldn’t send this guy out there through the curtains unless he was 100% straight and ready to go. And if by some way there was an oversight, then her job would become twice as hard as she would have to not just win a match, but entertain the fans all on her own.
It was something she’s actually had to do before. Not actually against the broom, of course.. I mean against an opponent who wasn’t cut out to work on that particular night… Anyway, here she was… Her gear over one shoulder in a large duffel bag and her hopes set ahead of her in the form of this great federation.
“No, I don’t think he’ll show up drunk. Price has like a million championships on his resume. You don’t just win all that gold by accident in this business” She was quick to specify, as if to try and put her phone contact to rest a bit “But I promise, I won’t take him for granted… And yes, I’ll do my best to represent Canada as well as any Canadian should”
She comes to a stop nearing the security checkpoint. TJ knew she had to get the necessary paperwork out so that she’d even be allowed into the area. This means that she’d have to get off the phone and focus on the here and now. First she’d have to locate the ladies locker room, get settled, maybe hit catering as she was STARVING
And then watch some old Jayson Price matches in order to study his tactics, motivations, and tendencies. Sure it was some 12 hours before match time… But one could never be too prepared especially as a debutant to a roster with more talent than any she’s ever had the privilege of being a part of before.
“Uh huh… Yes”
She slips her duffel off her shoulder, and shifts the phone to the crook of her neck/shoulder to dig through it
“You better not miss it, or else I’m going to be so mad at you”
A grin etched across her face.
“Duh I’m going to win. I have to.”
Finally she finds the lanyard with her employee badge and slips it around her neck
“I know I’m not in my 20’s anymore, sis but I got this… I promise I’m ready.”
She HAD to be, there was no more time for second guessing
“Just relax and make sure you don’t miss the show tonight, ok?”
Tatiana nods
“Love you too, sis. I’ll talk to you after the show… Uh huh… Okay, I gotta go”
Finally she was free, the phone was quick to find its place in her back pocket as she focused forward… Ahead was her future.
The great challenge… Her proverbial renaissance.
And it all begins tonight.

Or maybe it would play into how her career would go now that she’s made it to the United States?
It was hard to know as she’s never worked here before.

was that whole metaphor of having a good match with a broom…
