Our adventure begins in the afternoon of Wednesday, September 22 at the CoolWear Complex in Bayside, New York. We find Sara Pettis being checked out by medics backstage, following the taping of another episode of Showtime Championship Wrestling Unlimited. The episode will air in the near future on Paramount+. Into the room come her brothers, Chris and Ricky… the SCW Tag Team Champions. Chris: Sara, are you okay? That match with Christina was insane! Sara: I’m as okay as I can be. The medic is concerned with her right hip and he is working on some stretches with her. Ricky: How’s cuz, sis? Sara: I haven’t had a chance to talk to her yet. They rushed me right back here. Ricky: Dope. We can try to find her and-- Sara: No. You’ve got the battle royal coming up after this next match. Chris: Well, if we see her, we’ll send her your way. Sara: Thanks, Chris. For now-- A jolt of electricity shoots up from her hip to her brain and back down again. Sara: FUCK! Ricky: Yo! Take it easy, doc! Medic: I’m not a-- Sara: KELLY CLARKSON! She laughs through the pain. Sara: Go on, boys. The show must go on. Ricky: Wooooord. Sara: Good luck out there. Chris: Thanks. Love you. Sara: Love you, too. The brothers fist bump their sister and then head out of the room, just as a tall, handsome man enters. He rushes to her side and holds her hand. Sara: I’m fine, Jace. This man is Jason Christopher, who reigned as SCW National Champion from the season one finale until the season two finale. Jason: That was a killer match, Sare. Who knew she still had it after all this time? Sara: Wrestling is in her blood. It’s what she was born to do. Jason: Sounds familiar. How did you get cleared so soon after the [redacted] Battle Royal anyway? Sara: The show… The winces from the pain in her hip as Jason helps her sit up. Sara: … must go on. His eyes widen. Jason: Sara, you didn’t-- He sighs. Jason: You didn’t go through the tests before your match today. Did you? She lowers her head, avoiding eye contact as she slides down from the table to her feet. She shakes her right leg and then puts normal pressure down. Sara: I did what I had to do. She starts to go toward the door and Jason grabs her shoulder, turning her around. Jason: There’s a whole roster who would have killed for a match with Madwoman Szalinski out there… and you weren’t cleared to compete. I watched how that match ended last night. It was brutal. When you finally texted me back, it was all jumbled and looked like you were pocket dialing. Sara: I did… what I had… to do… Jason: That’s bullshit and you know it! She sighs and falls into his arms, tears dripping down her cheek. Jason: Hey, hey. I’m sorry, babe. I just don’t want-- Sara: It’s not that. It’s just-- She sighs. Sara: I used to have this exact conversation with Nathan… but with the roles reversed. I’m sorry for bringing him up again. I just-- Jason: It’s fine. Really. He was a big part of your life. Hell, he was a big part of my life, too. He’s the one who got me my first opportunity to wrestle in Japan. If it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have traveled the world in the first place. He’s also the one who made the call to bring me to SCW. Sara: You were the first one he called, who wasn’t part of the family. They walk out of the room together, with her holding onto his arm. Down the hallway they go, toward the locker room. Jason: So no, please, never apologize for bringing him up. But really… you need to go through those tests to make sure you’re aces, Sare. You… more than anyone… know how important it is to be cleared to compete. You’ve got so much coming up between this… Pro Wrestling Valor… CruiserClash… and [redacted]. This is the busiest you’ve been since… what… 2013? Sara: Pretty much, yeah. I don’t think I worked this hard then, to be honest. Jason: And you just signed that contract with [redacted]. You can’t mess it up by being on the shelf. Your match with [redacted] and [redacted] hinges on you actually being in it. Sara: They would do great without me. Jason: Enough putting people off just to put them over. You are so much better than that. You said vacation helped recharge your batteries and help you appreciate life. Part of that life is doing what you were put on this planet to do. You never let injuries keep you down before. Now you just have to play it smart and put in the work to stay on this path. She nods her head as they enter the locker room, where her sister SCW Ring Announcer Jane Kincaid is waiting for her. Jane: Sis! I’ve been looking everywhere for you! Sara: Shouldn’t you be-- Jane: Not when my sister is hurt! Sit down! Sara sits down on a chair and she rubs her hip. Jane: You took a nasty fall out there. Did you get checked out? Sara: Of course I did. Relax. Sara stares at Jason, warning him not to say anything about not getting her other tests done prior to this match. Jane: I don’t know why you keep pushing yourself so hard. Last night’s match was brutal enough. And you’re really going to go D.C. next week for the [redacted] Supershow? Sara: I’ve got a lot left to prove! To the fans! To my peers! To myself! She rubs her left hand, over where her wedding ring once rested. Sara: And to him… Scene fades to-- Beautiful stranger, here you are in my arms and I know that beautiful strangers only come along to do me wrong. Beautiful stranger, here you are in my arms and I think it's finally, finally, finally, finally, finally safe for me to fall. |
