Taking Care of Business
Lochlyn Cade stood somewhat hidden in the shadows of the gym’s brick walls as he directed his protege, who stands inside of the NecroCore ring, Cade’s mischievous face frowning as he concentrates on the young man standing before him. Lochlyn doesn’t like to think about how much potential this kid demonstrates it’s more about the finished product. Lochlyn never imagined himself as a mentor nor someone that should be looked up too but in this situation he plays the role of maestro.
Lochlyn has recently begun calling his student, Slade Madsen, The MadsMan due to his loose cannon nature. He’s not nearly as patient nor methodical as The Promethean but his ability can’t go unnoticed. Lochlyn looks to facilitate Slade’s innate prowess just as he looks to utilize his own talents this coming week against Andre Jenson.
“Life ain’t fair.
It’s the first valuable lesson that we’re taught. It’s the lesson that carries over to the business of professional wrestling… or so we’re told. Andre Jenson was born into anything but a Raw Deal. He’s been sucking on a sliver spoon his entire life and if anything he’s had an elite mindset since day one.”
Lochlyn Cade doesn’t despise Jenson for his position in life. If anything he respects him for carving out his own niche despite his handicap. That’s how The Promethean sees Andre’s position in life of luxury. A potential detriment that he’s had to overcome. A family name built on wealth, accomplishments, and elite status. How do you live up to something like that? Simple, ask Andre Jenson, he’s built a life overcoming those odds and making a name for himself.
“You’ve got to give it to the guy. He’s lived up to the family name and kept that elitism going for the next generation to overcome.”
His words are confusing for Slade Madsen who can’t comprehend money being a disadvantage.
“I’m not sure I’m buying that Loch. I would have given anything for a hot meal as a kid. This guy probably wasted more food than I’ve ever had the opportunity to eat.”
“Life is more than the quantity of something kid. Yeah, he’s always had hot meals, expensive toys, and a taste for the finer things of life. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t scrapped and clawed for the things he’s garnered. You don’t think he earned that fifth Tag Championship? He sure as hell didn’t pay me or Hix to become the number one contenders. They beat us inside of the ring and they did it by pinning me after a Blazing Critical Hit.”
“It could have gone the other way too.”
Lochlyn acknowledges the kids thoughts and shows a physical agreement with the nod of his head.
“Not only could it have gone the other way, it will, this coming week. Eli and Teo may have come down to a draw but I’m going to show why I’m called The Promethean. It’s not just a pseudonym that I gave myself without merit.”
A growing confidence begins to come across Cade’s face.
“Loch I hate to be the barer of bad news but you’ve been taking some negative hits on social media recently. They say you and Eli have been nothing but failures lately. Tokyo Fite, Uprising: All-In, and then CruiserClash against Two Gents. It’s been a rough last month for Dark Dynasty.”
Lochlyn smirks arrogantly before responding.
“Slade you’ve got to learn not to listen to what anyone else thinks about you in this business. That’s the road to shaken confidence and lost concentration of the task at hand. You’ve got to tune out the noise and do what you know you’re capable of doing inside that ring.
I wasn’t born with a proverbial silver spoon. I, however, have a history of my own to draw upon. A wrestling family where being labeled the best in something wasn’t good enough. You push yourself harder and farther than everyone. You learned that you didn’t shed tears over failures. You come back and you bleed more and sweat more than the next guy. I’m coming back this week and I’m taking care of business.”
