A stiff breeze swirls around The Followings compound as the frigid temperatures continue to run rampant. Kyle Kemp stands in front of one of the back exits and stares off into the distance. Trees slowly shake with small flurries of snow falling off of them with each movement. Normally this would be a picturesque sight but there is one thing in sight that takes away from the view. That is a fire in an old metal barrel with possessions scattered around it.
Kemps thoughts are interrupted by the door opening behind him. He looks back over his shoulder and sees Chase Jackson sticking his head out. Chase looks over his shoulder at the barrel and shakes his head.
Are you sure you want to do this?
Kemp flashes a tight lip smile and nods.
It has to be done.
Chase looks exasperated before blurting out….
You’re the one that told me that your past is what makes you. Your past influences your future. You told me that my past is just as important for the present.
I did say that and I meant it. The difference here is that if I hold onto the past I won’t go forward. Plain and simple.
Chase goes to say one more thing but Kemp puts his hand up.
I know you have my best interests at heart but the fact of the matter is that I need to do this Chase. This is what I need to do. Please go back inside.
Chase contemplates saying anything else for a second before nodding and shutting the door. Kemp looks forward once again as we pan around to his face and he smiles.
The Final One.
He laughs sarcastically at that thought.
Is it really though? Do any of you actually believe that? If there is anything that the old guard in this place loves to do more it’s to bring up the WCF. They hold onto it like a child and their favorite toy. Many of them like Odin Balfore hold onto those memories because it was a simpler time. A time where favoritism ran rampant and stars like myself were held down.
That’s right I said held down. Held down and forced to run in circles, fighting Mikey eXtreme and Teo Del Sol every week for a year and a half. Think I’m lying? Go look at the history book. There was one year where a combination of the three of us were involved in a “big” pay per view match against each other over 6 times. Who was in those other matches? Well you have WAR which is just a rumble where everyone is in it and a couple other small reprieves where I fought Spencer Adams and Shadowlove. Do you know whose fault that is? The exact same people that ran that company into the ground.
And in the ground, dead and buried is where WCF should stay. We shouldn’t be glorifying all of our time there. We should be sneering at it. There’s a reason why that place is closed and it’s not just about talent being held down. It’s because the people in charge didn’t have the heart to do what is necessary to keep it alive. They couldn’t adjust. They wanted to laugh and enjoy their favorite memories and talk about when Jonny Fly and Marc Mayhem were somebody. They wanted to talk about Logan and his antics. They got complacent and when it time to put in the work to transition WCF to the future, they just couldn’t do it.
What? Did you expect me to sugar coat this? Did you expect me to talk about all of the fun times I had there? Leave that to Sanchez who was dubbed the chosen one and the next big thing countless times. Because fun it was not. It was my own personal hell. I was constantly ridiculed and told that I was a joke. That I wasn’t good enough.
Kemp sneers.
In front of me lies all of my mementos from those days. My tshirts. These worthless belts. A couple of “Of The Year” awards. None of it matters. None of it. All that matters going forward is making all of these people better.
Kemp walks forward and tosses all of the items into the fire.
Let it all burn. Let WCF burn. Why? Because I’m Kyle Kemp and….
He smiles
