ONE WEEK AGO
“We have one of the fastest rising superstars in wrestling joining us this afternoon! All of our listeners are in for a treat today!”
“In our studio, we have…” cue stock drumroll. “Lissie Hope!” Now the applause.
“Thanks for having me, boys! Very happy to be here!”
Lissie Hope sat at the head of the table, across from the DJ’s for Sirius XM’s FightNation’s Saturday Showdown (this is a fake show). Trill Bill and Cam Kelly (also fake) had been hyping up this exclusive interview for a few days as AW rolled on towards the home stretch to Evolution 2. Lissie was spending a few days in New York with her new friend Geri Miller, taking in the attractions of the city, falling in love with the Big Apple more and more with every second. But for now, it was all business as the DJ’s got right into the big question on everybody’s mind.
“Lissie, why do you hate Kennedy Matthews?”
“Oh snap, we’re getting right into it, huh?”
“That’s how we do things on this show, Lissie! No holds barred, nothing held back!”
“Do I have to censor my language?”
“We got to keep the lights on, girl,” Trill Bill said with a chuckle. “Just do your best!”
“Listen, it’s pretty clear that Kennedy Matthews has gotten to the point of no return. From jump, from day one, she had this completely idiotic idea that I was trying to replace her. That I was going to ingrain myself in her world, that I was gonna use my wit and my charm to make her completely forgotten. And in a way, she was right, y’know? The day I stepped into AW, I held absolutely nothing back. I pulled no punches when I went balls deep-- wait, can I say that?”
“We might get some letters from the FCC… but I think we’ll be alright.”
“I put everyone on notice, man. I took my shots. I laid the scope on any and everybody and was just waiting for that moment to pull the trigger. Ya’ see, Kennedy wasn’t prepared for this, ‘yo. She wasn’t prepared for a fish straight out of the academy to put her on blast, to tell her she wasn’t capable of being the best in the business. To tell her that there was a new girl on the scene, who was willing and able to do everything she could do -- but better.
She wasn’t ready for it, man. She thought 2019 was gonna be the year she reigned supreme, that she was gonna be royalty. But when I busted through that wall and started getting all the hype and all the wins and all the notoriety, that just cut her deep. That just pissed her off and made her realize that everything she’d done to this point, that everything she accomplished and all of her goals she had envisioned for herself -- they were now unattainable. All for naught.
She thought she was a leader, man. She thought she could bully Estrella Luiz around and have a little dog on a leash to follow her around and bow down to her supremacy. But she didn’t realize that Estrella -- little Estrella -- had her own mind and her own abilities and her own dreams. All I did was show Estrella that she was her own woman, that she should own her worth, that she was able without having to resort to being Kennedy’s puppet -- and it all fell apart for Kennedy from there. She realized she had no purpose. The Royal Family was dead the minute I stepped into AW. She’s all bark and no bite -- and it frickin’ klled her, man. It killed everything she had built for herself. Everything she thought was on the horizon was now a pipe dream. And she had to find a source for her inadequacy. And that source was me.”
“Damn! Take a breath, Lissie!”
“Kennedy has accomplished a lot though -- don’t you have any appreciation for the road she’s paved for the up-and-coming generation of fighting women like yourself?
“Nah, man. I’m not paying homage. For what? Why would I do that? This… ish... don’t work that way. I'm spittin' fire here, I'm not raising her up in the process. Look, the fact of the matter is this. Kennedy is no Casey Holliday. Kennedy is no Noble Savage. She’s no L Verez. She no Evie Zima or Jynkz. She ain’t even Claire Hawkins. Kennedy Matthews is a non-entity. She’s on the way down while I’m on the way up, and she can thank me later for keeping her name in the stratosphere.”
“There are a lot of people who are now saying that you’re on the brink of stardom. What do you do to ensure that those expectations don’t bury you before you can achieve them?”
“I’ve gotta pick my battles, y’know? That twitchy toothpick Dandy DiVito called me out not long after I arrived. Old guards like TFK and Z-MAC aren’t too happy that I’m on the scene. But those are battles for another day, y’know? I know I’m young to this game, I know it’s gonna take a bit to get on their radar. But that’s why I’m on this journey, guys. I’m here to be the best. I’m here to be the biggest name in Action Wrestling. And if you read all of the insider reports and if you listen to the feedback of those who buy tickets to our shows, you’ll see that I’m well on my way.
“There seems to be a shift lately with a lot of imports from a defunct company that shall not be named. Have any of those names caught your attention?”
“No.”
“No?”
“Look, I don’t care where people come from, okay? If these people were superstars elsewhere, that’s cool, man. But they don’t need my stamp of approval, do they? What do they want, a -BEEP- cookie?”
“Please, Lissie. Luckily we’re on a delay but we’ve really gotta be careful with that language. We don’t pay our interns enough to work overtime!"
“Cam, we don’t pay our interns anything.”
“What I’m getting at is this, guys. It takes a lot to impress me. And I’m not in the business of co-signing for any-frickin-body, you feel me? Just throw me in the ring with any of them. All of them. Pick a name out of a hat, I don’t give a damn. I’m not scared of any-damn-one-of-’em. But I also don’t know much about them, either. And I’m anxious to feel these people out, see exactly what it is they have to offer. At this moment though, I’m only concerned with one person. And I think I’ve said enough about her as it is.”
“Let’s talk about the friendships you’ve developed here in AW. You’ve certainly not kept anything secret.”
“Geri Miller is just a cool girl, man. We’ve got hella lot in common, and I’ve been following on her road back to AW for awhile now, and I just decided ‘what the hell?’ and extended a hand. We hit it off, and that was it. We took this trip to N-Y-C ‘cause I’ve never really been here and lemme tell you, this place is dope. I could see myself living up here, y’know? As far as Estrella goes, she’s just a bad bitch with a heart of gold. I didn’t like the way Kennedy was basically using her as a tag-along to prove that she was above someone. I just wanted Estrella to know that she’s better than that, and Kennedy took exception to that. Estrella is frickin’ awesome in the ring, man. She hasn’t had a chance to show it yet but when she takes on Ryan Elias this week, I think she’s gonna prove some people wrong. It sucks that Estrella and Geri don’t like each other --at all-- but that’s a beef I don’t get in the middle of. Unlike Kennedy I’m able to keep my friendship’s separate.”
“It’s been great getting to know you, Lissie. The chair is always open if you want to come back and spill some more tea at some point! Don’t forget to set your DVR folks, as another edition of Clash premieres on the CBS Sports Network this Monday night!”
“Kennedy Matthews vs. Casey Holliday! Estrella Luiz vs. Ryan Elias! The return to the ring for Ryan Lockhart! We are just three weeks away from Evolution 2! You heading back for this one, Lissie?”
“Nah, I think I’m staying another couple days up here and I’ll be cheering on my girl just like you! Thanks for having me on, guys.”
FOUR DAYS AGO
You can pretend you don't miss me (me)
You can pretend you don't care
All you wanna do is kiss me (me)
Oh what a shame I'm not there
Lissie Hope stared at the text message in her inbox and was eager to reply, but didn’t really have the words to say. The haze of that night left her completely conflicted. The regrettable behavior left a sour taste in her mouth, but there were parts of that night that she absolutely loved, too. She hadn’t felt vulnerable like that in a long time. She felt cared for, and the mutual interest and attraction was palpable. Her heart raced just thinking about it.
But she looked over at the other end of the table and saw Estrella Luiz, and her conscience was flooding with a dizzying array of emotions. Estrella was the unattainable. Her hair in a ponytail, her perfect skin, her paralyzing eyes, her intoxicating smell. She had an infectious laugh and an unparalelled sense of humor.
She was the epitome of perfection.
But she was also Lissie’s best friend.
“I’m surprised Ryan hasn’t come after you yet,” Estrella said, breaking the silence while buttering a bagel. Ugh, even the way she spread it left Lissie with a gluttony of perverse thoughts. “He’s usually fast on the trigger.”
“With the way he boasts about all the women he’s bagged, I bet that ain’t the only thing he rushes,” Lissie said with a chuckle. It took a second for the double entendre to reach Estrella’s head. You know, culture’s clashing.
“HA!” she yelped, causing an older lady at the table behind them to drop her fork in surprise. Lissie mouthed the word ‘sorry’ as the lady sternly scolded them with her eyes. That mom look. Everyone knows it.
“I will never not be surprised how these loud sounds come from such a tiny little person,” Lissie teased, and Estrella playfully threw a piece of bread at her.
“Shut up!” Estrella said, laughing to herself. “Seriously though, hope I softened him up a little for you.”
“Please, girl. If anything, rolling around the ring with you would make a pervert like that harden up.” Her mind wandered. ‘Imagine rolling around the bed with this one,' she said to herself.
“You’re so crazy, mami. Goddamn!”
“For real though, it’s never going to be about competition with us, you feel? That’s not our relationship. I hope you never, ever feel that way, girlie. Same goes for Geri, man. My friendship with her is different than it is with you.” In more ways than one. “Wherever we go, don’t matter what little dopey ass town we find ourselves in --”
That drew the ire from Old Lady Across From Them again. Another non-verbal ‘sorry’.
“--I always have a good time with you. I cherish this shit, girl.”
“Me too, babe. And I can’t wait till we take over this company.”
“One victim at a time.”

TWO DAYS AGO
What is it you want?
You can lie but I know that you're not fine (oh yeah)
Every time you talk
You talk 'bout me but you swear I'm not on your mind
And it starts with you, Ryan.
The times change. The scene evolves. The legends fade, but they make way for the shining light of the stars of the future. There’s never a dull moment in this business. There’s never a time when professional wrestling is stagnant, because there’s always someone who’s lurking, waiting in the shadows.
That’s me, Ryan.
In some circles, you’re the name people are propping up, ready to take that next step. Hoping to take flight and soar into the horizon, winning gold and reaching depths unseen by the naked eye. But before you, son -- that’s been my name on the ‘rising stars’ lists. That’s been a place at the table where I’m going to feast, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let a fucking pissant like you take it from me.
We’re competing for things far beyond a simple win-or-loss on our resume. Oh no. This match has implications that you’ve not even fully realized yet. Because it’s simple, bro. This is a juncture that can make-or-break a career. Because the winner of our match will be catapulted into the upper echelon of Action Wrestling.
And believe me when I say this, you fucking dweeb.
I am no one’s stepping stone.
You call yourself the Epitome of Perfection. You think you’ve got it all, don’t you? That every rung on this ladder will shake under your boots. So this is the highest you’re gonna get? You aren’t getting any better, not even a little bit? Because if that’s the case, then that’s a sad fucking state of affairs, boiii.
You ain’t even done shit, my dude. How can you be ‘perfection’?
If this is your standard of ‘perfection’, then I’ve got news for you, shitstick.
There’s nowhere else to go but down.
Nothing’s going to cushion your fall, either. You’re riding the wave right now, got a couple of victories under your belt, but things change in a fucking instant in this business. A snap of the fingers. All it takes is one, man. Step into the ring with the wrong one, and in a flash, just like that…
Forgotten.
I’m that one, Ryan.
You might think you're all that.
But you ain't about all this!
I’ll be damned if I let you run a train on the team #bestie. You might go out to bars at night, dressed to the nines, looking to creep on depressed divorcees or widows with cobwebs for pussies. Maybe you'll flash a few bills or offer up some blow to take a couple of Instagram sluts home to pound out your frustrations. But you ain't impressing no one, dude. You're see-through. You've got nothin' to offer, as a person and as a competitor, and that's going to be your eventual downfall. You'll spend all this time and energy tryin' to prove you're worth a damn, but all anyone will see is what you've already shown us in the first place.
You're a piece of dog shit, stuck under my heels.
I'll rub you off on the curb, and stomp your face in it for good fucking measure.
I can't wait to kick your fucking teeth in, Ryan. Call me old-fashioned, but in my eyes, attacking peripheral relationships and family members should be off-limits in this business, but you just couldn't keep your mouth shut, now could you? You think you bit at Estrella's heart, attacking her for finally doing the right thing and ridding herself of a poisonous relationship. She let go of the cancers in her life, and you want to take cheap shots at that? Is that your M.O.? Because that's fucking weak, man. But somehow, it fits. You are weak. And every time you open your mouth, you make it that much clearer.
Make no mistake, you walking herpie.
It's now my mission to rid the AW of you.
I'm going to remove the toxins, one by one.
A ritual cleansing, if you will.
And I'm the motherfucking antidote.
I'm tired of people comparing our trajectories, Ryan. It's just so fucking tired and shortsighted. You're a 37-year-old man-child who hasn't done a single thing of value in your entire life, yet somehow, your name has joined mine on on this crest of the wave? I don't get it. By your own admission, you are in peak shape, a perfect specimen, a total package, and there's nothing left for you to improve on. You think, after two matches, you've already joined the ranks of the ol' boys club, able to compete against the legends-in-the-makings here in AW. The Ryan Lockhart's and the Casey Holliday's and the Will Moor's. The Shadowlove's and the QDT's and the Dandy DiVito's. But as much as you don't want to admit it, Ryan, you are on my level. Humble yourself a little, you fucking prick. So is Roger Payton. And Jako Blister. And Scott Slayer. We're the next generation in AW. And we're leaving your ass behind.
There's only one reason why this match was even made, and it wasn't so you can finally lay claim to a threesome worth mentioning, one with two of the hottest bitches AW has ever seen. You aren't pounding team #bestie; not today, not ever. Ask yourself why, though. Why did management decide to throw you into the lion's den, hoping you wouldn't be torn to shreds. Piece by piece, tearing the flesh from your body, picking teeth with your bones. They see you as a future star, Ryan. But I'm not going to give them what they want. I'm not going to give you what you want. I'm not your creator, Ryan. I will not allow myself to be the architect of your success.
Oh no.
Not on my watch.
I'm going to destroy everything you're hoping to build;
Before it even begins.
I don’t make careers.
Silly boy.
I fucking end them.
What's Ryan Kincaid up to these days, anyway? Another medicore oldhead who thought a change of scenery was going to be his calling card until he stepped into the ring with a hungry young buck who throws down with any-fucking-body. You ready to join that list? Prepare yourself, because once I'm done with you, you're fading into oblivion. Meanwhile, here I stand, smaller than you, and you'll have no choice but to look up at me. Because I've got what you don't, Ryan. I've got heart. I've got ambition. And I've got the talent you can only wish you possessed. You can say you've got it, you can look the part, but take a cold, hard look at yourself with a clear understanding and without bias and subjectivity. Look at yourself through my eyes.
You're an endless void.
A fucking parasite.
An empty shell with a terrible hairline.
Hit up that Rogaine, bruh.
I'm sorry I'm going to have to teach you this lesson, Ryan. I'm so very sorry that you're going to have to learn it the hard way from a woman you deem beneath you. But it's better that you figure it out now, before it's too late. Before you waste too much time dreaming, hoping that one day you'll live up to this asinine persona you've created for yourself.
The Epitome of Perfection.
Give me a fucking break.
I'm going to your haunt your dreams, Ryan.
Now.
And forever.
TODAY
Everybody knows
You and I are suicidal stolen art (oh yeah)
Pretty moments sews
Stitches into all your bitches broken hearts
Geri Miller and Lissie Hope commanded all the attention at this small club in downtown Louisville. They had eccentric looks and perfect bodies and stood out in the crowd on graduation night. They had decided on a whim to doll themselves up and see what the midwest hip hop scene had to offer, and it didn't hurt that they danced together all night, toying with the boys who gave them urging looks. A bunch of twenty-somethings who had never seen the world -- man, Lissie lived for that shit.
"That dude's totally eye-fucking you," Geri said, sipping a vodka tonic. Her expressive eyes widened and directed Lissie across the bar.
"He's a baby!" Lissie exclaimed, but that didn't deter her. She took the cue and suggestively flung her hair over the shoulder, inviting the guy to join them. She downed the rest of her Bulleit on the rocks and giggled as the guy nearly tripped over his barstool to come to them.
"Can I get you ladies a drink?"
Geri's resting bitch face was incomparable and she didn't bother acknowledging him. Lissie, on the other hand, wanted to have a little fun with the young lad.
"Bourbon and coke," she said. "Please, and thank you." Lissie scooted over to the stool next to Geri and gave him the okay to sit. Lissie appreciated his confidence, but also his awareness. She was a lady, after all. "I'm Elisabeth."
"Bobby," he said, extending a gentle hand for a shake. She hated the name. Was too similar to her brother and made her a little squeamish. "We don't see too many girls who look like you around here," he said. "My god, ya'll are beautiful."
"I don't know, man. I've seen some stunners already, and we have only been here for a night," she said. "Maybe you should appreciate what's in front of you."
"You're in front of me." Smooth. "So what brings you ladies to town? What do you do?"
"We beat men up," she said coldly, her smile evaporated. Boy was shook! "Every night."
"I..." he couldn't muster the words.
"Appreciate the drink," Lissie said, grabbing the fresh glass. She grabbed Geri by the hand and led her out to the patio.
"That was cruel," Geri admitted. "Hilarious, but that poor dude didn't know what hit him!"
"Listen, I'm fucking something tonight," she said, definitively. "But that douchebag? Noooo! I'm sure he'll get his dick wet with some dirty thot. He'll be fine!"
"Are you that sexually frustrated?" Geri asked, genuinely curious.
"Oh god, more than you know," Lissie answered, immediately regretting it.
"As much as it pisses me off that you actually like that clown," Geri began. "When are you gonna shoot your shot? Estrella can't be that dense. She's gotta know how much you wanna tear that shit up!"
Lissie shook her head in obvious dejection, pensively thinking in her mind what the big fucking hold-up was. Geri decided not to push it further when she noticed Lissie look down at her phone, seeing a couple of text notifications.
