What a match!
Anyone who was in attendance, or watched Clash at home, was treated to an instant classic. You got to see four men give everything they had to win that match. It would have been easy to go through the motions. There was nothing on the line but pride. That night, it was all we needed.
No one involved in that tag team match has anything to be ashamed of. The four of us were worth the price of admission. You know what makes everything better?
We get to do it all again at Blast.
I'm proud of my performance, but that doesn't mean I'm happy. I came back to Action Wrestling for one last hurrah. I envisioned myself climbing to the top and sharing the ring with the talented men and women that make up this roster.
I didn't envision staring up at the lights one week before one of the biggest matches of my career.
I've mentioned I've been doing this for twenty-eight years. That doesn't mean I've been at the top the whole time. The truth is I've spent most of my career in the midcard. I've always been a trusted hand more than capable of getting things done in the ring. It hasn't always led to success.
The last time I represented a company as its World champion was 2010. That was half a career ago. I've been trying to get back there ever since.
So when I say the match at Blast is one of the biggest of my career…I mean it.
Ryan: You need to push yourself harder. If this is the best you've got you might as well throw in the towel.
The younger, and in better shape cousin of Muru tosses him across the ring. It reminds him of when he was first getting his start. Muru took him under his wing.
Muru: I'm not throwing in the towel. I've still got a lot of fight left in me.
He puts the younger man in a headlock.
Ryan: Bullshit! You're done! You don't belong in that title match and this proves it.
Ryan sends Muru into the ropes and one of them snaps. This almost causes Muru to tumble out of the ring.
Muru: Shit! Where'd you find this place?
He looks around at the small space. Less of a gym and more of a rundown garage.
Ryan: Some no name local promotion owed me a favor. I thought I'd take it back to old school.
Muru: You sure you're not trying to kill me?
Ryan: I'm sorry we're not in your precious state of the art warehouse. What did that ever get you anyways? Fancy equipment and your own ring. You still couldn't get the job done.
Muru: That was my home.
The Warehouse as it was called was one of the first investments Muru made after he made enough money. It allowed him to train and live in the same space.
Ryan: Until you went and sold it off to be with a girl half your age. Then she walked out on you. She knew you were a loser!
Muru: You're really cutting deep today.
Ryan: It's called motivation.
Muru: I'm plenty motivated.
The two men exit the ring. Ryan grabs a couple bottles of water from a nearby cooler.
Muru: Have you seen what they've been saying online? The dirt sheets don't think I have a shot. That's motivation enough.
Ryan: There's a fine line between motivation and believing what they're saying.
Muru: If I didn't think I had a shot, I wouldn't be putting in the work.
Ryan: Is that what you call that?
The two cousins share a laugh.
Muru: What about you? Do you think I stand a chance?
Ryan: You've always got a chance. Last week proved it. You proved you belong in the ring with the best wrestlers in the world.
Muru: I'll tell you one thing. I'm not getting back in that ring.
He points to the dilapidated ring they were in.
Ryan: Fair enough.
I know I've got doubters.
The AW fans are probably wondering who the hell this new guy is. How did he get a shot at the most prestigious title in wrestling? I was just as surprised as they were. In less than two months I could become the new face of the company. I don't think they're ready for that.
I am.
I've been fighting and clawing to get back to the top. I didn't expect it so soon, but make no mistake, I earned it. I don't know if everyone in the back would agree with that. It has to suck that some newcomer is getting a shot they haven't yet.
Don't blame me.
When the contendership battle royal was announced, no one knew what the prize would be. No one knew the winner was getting a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Did they think it would be for a different belt? The Omega title? The United States belt? I personally thought they were going to take the last two and give us a shot at the Tag Team titles.
I'm just saying maybe not everyone was going all out. If they knew what awaited them would they have tried harder? I guess we'll never know. What I do know is that no matter what.
I give 100%
If you don't believe me, go back and look at the effort I put in. No one can say I take matches off. No one can say Muru isn't doing everything he can to put on a show. If they try, then they are liars.
Haters gonna hate.
Action Wrestling is entering a new era. Who would have thought it would be led by this old man?
Blast is just a couple of days away. The wrestling world is heading to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for a stacked card. The main event features four men who couldn't be more different, but they all want the same thing.
The World Heavyweight Championship.
Muru has spent his days training with his younger cousin, and he feels good. He may not look it, but he might be in the best shape of his career.
His life isn't all training. He's got a personal life he's working on. This means a lot of texts with his would be love connection in Calgary.
For the past month he's been trying to convince Emma to finally go on a date with him. She says it's too soon. Muru is just trying to be patient. This is not how trying to date used to be.
He's hoping she'll accept his invitation for this weekend.
It's important to me, she has to say yes…right?
The streets of downtown Detroit are filled with fans enjoying the festivities of the NFL draft. Normally Muru would be part of the crowd, but not with so much riding on this week.
Instead he sits alone in his apartment. He has been building up the nerve to ask Emma a very important question. He wonders if she can tell he's nervous through the phone.
Muru: As you know, this Sunday I have an important match.
Emma: How could I forget? You've only mentioned it a hundred times.
Muru: I've really enjoyed getting to know you this past month. I know you're not ready for me to take you out on a proper date yet. I'd just really like you to be there.
Emma: I don't think that's a good idea. Can't we just keep going slow?
Muru: I just thought this might be a good time. I'm all for taking it slow but I just think we won't know how things will go until we spend some time together in person.
Emma: I told you when this started I didn't know how long it would take. You said you'd be patient and were ok with my timing.
Muru: I am. I was just hoping…
Emma: I understand you're disappointed, but I've got a daughter to think about. I like you, I do. I just need more time.
Muru: Take all the time you need.
Emma: Are you upset?
Muru: No like you said, just disappointed. It will be ok. You just let me know when you're ready. I'll be waiting.
As the conversation comes to a close, Muru hangs up the phone. Just a short while ago he was content with sitting at home. Now, not so much.
Muru: Screw this, I'm going out.
He grabs his keys and heads out the door. Hopefully someone will want him.
Round 2 fight!
How is everyone holding up? Are you guys as excited as I am? I'm going to keep it real with you guys, my nerves are getting the best of me. This match is going to be huge. That's how I feel. For the rest of you this might just be the norm. I may not find myself in this situation again. I need to make the most of it.
It sounds like I should be quoting Eminem.
I'm going to be sharing the ring with three men who've held the World Heavyweight Championship. Three men who know what it's like to be the best in wrestling. Then there's me, the new guy. Now I'm not the only new guy on the roster making waves. Like I said, things are changing in Action Wrestling.
Things are changing for Muru.
Odin Balfore…
Odin, I apologize for letting you down last week. I was really hoping us old dogs could get the job done. I wasn't up to the task and I apologize for that. I know you can't be happy with how things have turned out the past couple of weeks. It wasn't too long ago that you were thinking the belt was coming home.
It's been a long time coming. It's just unfortunate that your reunion with the title has to wait a little longer. It has to be hard to see the title passed around from wrestler to wrestler. I know I'd be heartbroken.
No one ever beat you for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Yet every time a new champion is crowned, they celebrate. It's disrespectful. It's disrespectful that it's taken so long for you to get the chance to win it back. That doesn't seem like a good business move.
Then when you finally get your shot. It's stolen from you. When you can almost taste victory, you're fed the bitter taste of defeat. It isn't fair. Wrestling isn't fair. If it was I wouldn't have waited for half of my career for a shot like this.
I need to win this title Odin. I need it like the air we breathe. I can't make any promises, but when I win, I want you to have the first shot. A fair and true one on one match. It's what you deserve.
Teo Blaze…
Teo, I bet winning the World Heavyweight Championship was a dream of yours. To hear the fans roar in approval, and the locker room do the same, it probably felt like you were on top of the world. As much of a struggle it is to reach the peak…
Staying there is even tougher.
That's a lesson you had to learn the hard way. It sucks, but you'll be better for it in the future. Plus you can hang your hat on the fact you pinned Gerard Angelo. That's quite an accomplishment. The guy seems like a terrible person. That leads me to your second lesson…
Payback is a bitch.
Some people don't take losing very well. As I sat in the back watching your match with Odin, I was rooting for you. I knew we were going to blow the roof off the arena at Blast if you won. It's what I wanted. I think as the fans warm up to me, they would have wanted it to.
Instead the wrestling world was robbed of that match. Some will say what we got instead is so much better. I prefer the simplicity of one on one, may the best man win. The truth is, even if either one of us walks out of Blast with the belt, we won't be any closer to knowing. They might say we won by accident.
They may call us a fluke.
We know the truth. Two months you held the championship. That's two months longer than me. It doesn't matter if it's two months or two days, your name still gets put into the record books. That's something they can't take away from you.
Hold on to that memory because at Blast, you're not getting the belt back. You had your chance, and while you were robbed, that's on you. I need to win the World Heavyweight Championship. My time is running out. My time has to be now.
My time is now!
One day we will get that one on one match. Hopefully it's for the title. I can't make any promises, but if I win the belt, I'll do everything I can to make sure you're my first opponent.
Gerald Angelo…
If I had to point out the most successful man in Action Wrestling the past couple of years, I don't think I could find anyone as successful as you. At this point you probably think of the World Heavyweight Championship as your personal property. Seeing it around the waste of someone else probably doesn't sit well with you.
You're going to need to get used to it.
You're walking around as the champion, thinking you're untouchable. You think that Action Wrestling is there to satisfy your every whim. You're probably thinking this four way match is perfect for you. You get to beat everyone and send them to the back of the line all at once.
It's more efficient that way.
You're damn good at what you do Angelo. You know it, and that pisses people off. They hate you because of your talent. They're also jealous of you.
I'm jealous of you!
I wish my accomplishments read like yours. I wish I could boast about my career the way you can. Imagine all the luxuries I could have if I were you. But I'll never be you. I could never be.
I play by the rules. I'm not a thief!
I'll never agree with how you cashed in your briefcase. You probably aren't concerned with that. If you're as good as everyone says you are, as I say you are, you could have just faced the winner straight up. That wouldn't have been how you do things.
That's not what assholes do.
I know this match is every man for himself, but no one has a bigger target on their back. Every man in this match feels like you've taken something from them. You have. That's why I know I won't feel even a little bad when I walk out champion, when I put your property around my waist.
When I'm champion I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure you're not my first opponent. You don't deserve it.
I'm sure you'll snake your way in anyways.
It's the middle of the night and Muru wakes up in an unfamiliar bed. He looks over and sees a woman he doesn't know.
Muru: What have I done?
There you have it boys! We are four different men all wanting to leave with the same thing, the World Heavyweight Championship.
Who's star is going to shine brightest?
I want you all to remember that when the bell rings I'm going to give it my all. I have a lot to prove and a lot to make up for after last week. I can't be denied.
We are going to put on one hell of a show. It might even be The Greatest Show on Earth! Well at least Alabama.
I can't wait. It's going to be a Blast!
Anyone who was in attendance, or watched Clash at home, was treated to an instant classic. You got to see four men give everything they had to win that match. It would have been easy to go through the motions. There was nothing on the line but pride. That night, it was all we needed.
