So I’ve needed a day to process everything lol- I’ve thought about this post a lot because anyone who knowable knows I have a tendency to put my foot in my mouth. But I’m going to give it my best shot.
I started playing Teo regularly in 2015. Now a lot of you guys are going to be familiar with this next part, but in those almost 10 years I’ve only ever played Teo in 3 feds- WCF, UCI, and AW (barring any cameo appearances). Getting the chance to tell his story for you guys every week has become such an integral part of my life, and the character has meant the world to me.
But in those nearly ten years, there was something I kind of just accepted as fact. Call me too hard on myself, or a silly goose, but that’s how it was- I always assumed that Teo would never be a world champion. I know that he was the final WCF world champion, and don’t get me wrong, it meant the word to me that he was able to grab that brass ring- but it was a bittersweet win since it was the final night of the company.
So when I was able to join AW, it was a second chance. An ability to do it right, and frankly, I struggled for a long time. I don’t want to sound dramatic, but up until reforming the Two Gents, I really didn’t know where his story was going. But being able to be with friends, with a community that I treasure, it kept me going. It will probably always keep me going.
I don’t mean to ramble, but I want to emphasize something- without you guys, there is no Teo Blaze. He’d be at most an idea in the back of my head that I never had anything to do with. I’ve had a network of support that many can only dream of, and I am eternally grateful and extremely lucky to have that.
So I want to be clear, I am speaking from the heart here when I say this. Reading that result from Payback made my heart skip a beat. It was an adrenaline hit- I don’t know if that’s silly, but it’s the truth haha.
But it would not have happened without the continual support, friendship, and I’ll say it, love that this community has shown Teo Blaze and his hapless writer.
So at the risk of gilding the Lily, I want to say thank you to every person, active, retired, or whatever- who has been a part of this journey with me. I plan on playing Teo until the sun burns out, but damned if you all haven’t always given me a reason to want to keep on pushing no matter what.
Here’s to ten more years of shenanigans, no matter what the future brings.
