Nate Burleson: Ladies and gentlemen... joining me at this time is someone who had what is being considered a star-making performance in Havoc... Downfall.
The ever-busy backstage interviewer, Nate Burleson, is standing by in a stairwell leading to the exits. If Nate is a bit flushed from being in so many places tonight, well, that's understandable, Havoc had many major stories and moving pieces. In the background looms a figure, who is sitting, hands resting on his knees. He stands as Nate begins his intro.
Nate Burleson: Downfall, you entered at #31 out of the crowded field, and lasted into the final seven. While it may not be the big win, and the ticket to Evolution to finally settle things with Ash Blake that you wanted, this is not a small feat. How are you feeling about your Havoc performance?
Downfall chews his lip for a second before answering. He's not his usual bristling, hard-edged self, he seems almost reflective.
Downfall: Well the simple fact is, I went into this match knowing that it was a mountain to climb. And despite my roasting him in the lead-up to Havoc, I have to give respect to Corey Black... he gave me so many unprotected shots to the head that in ten years they're going to be making an Oscar-bait movie about Will Smith studying the effects of CTE on my brainstem. But I hung in there, and as always, I gave everything I had to that match. So my road doesn't take me to Evolution. So I don't immediately go in to finish things with Blake.
His mouth turns down in an exaggerated pout that reads "Ah well, screw it". But then, he gets serious.
Downfall: But they're going to be talking about my performance in that match just as long. There are many ways to have a legacy, Nate. I eliminated Addy A, Cassidy Adler and Wade freakin Moor. I lasted over half an hour and hung in there with in the top 5% of this company. And when I turned my back on Nightingale, the entire place came unglued.
Nate Burleson: Speaking of your, ah, meeting with James Nightingale in that match, you weren't alone in that, you joined forces with Dionysus in a cathartic moment, and you two made a very effective team. Might there be ample fodder for a run together as partners?
Downfall squints at Nate, then shakes his head with a smirk.
Downfall: Everything in good time, Nate. There's a few conversations we'd have to have. But I'll tell you this... my road to a moment at Evolution has not stopped. I just have to figure out what the next step might be.
Downfall cocks his head to the side, eyes searching the hallway and with a slightly wtf expression.
Downfall: Now, I hate to cut this short, but for some reason, I'm having a mighty craving for Tostitos. Hrn. Weird.
Downfall brushes roughly past Nate and the cameraman, who just grins a little, shaking his head.
Nate Burleson: Downfall, everybody.
