Emerald City Complex
Seattle
Two days before Clash in OKC
The sweeping orchestral music filling the room is a little too loud with all the seats empty. Harvey Marx is grateful no one can hear his feet tapping nervously. Harvey is at home on the third stage of the Emerald City. This is his building, and the best-known performances of his career happened here. The Emerald City's other two stages have hosted many different acts over the years, but this one has been exclusively for BTEs act from the beginning. That was about to change. Harvey is pulled from his thoughts when the soundtrack cuts.
Reshma: I know you're a great magician, but I'm not willing to trust the power of telekinesis today Frank.
Frank: I don't want to hurt you
Reshma: The only way anyone gets hurt is if you don't stop thinking and LIFT. You wanted to do this once in the show and leave the rest of the dancing to pros. You're going to, and you're going to do it right. We've been working on this all day and you've got this. I know you're nervous. Sometimes you have to just trust and commit to a choice.
Harvey swallowed hard. He had to remind himself she was talking about dancing.
Reshma has had a successful career that has included tours with some of the best ballet troupes in the world. Before that she was a recipient of Harvey's first performing arts scholarship and jumped at the chance for a supporting role in Frank's act. Harvey is relying on her to help Frank oversee the project after Harvey and Leo rejoin AW on the road.
Frank and Reshma are just getting acquainted. The real work on the project will begin in two days when the rest of the cast and crew arrive. Marx knew he couldn't spare any of his main crew this close to Evolution 4. He would need to keep them sharp. Frank would have who he would need, though. No one can put together a production crew quite like Harvey Marx.
Harvey hates to admit he learned from the best.
As if right on cue, the music starts and Marx's phone vibrates. The Fort Pierce show was the last time he took a call from this number, and he was strangely calm swiping it away now. He turns Leo, beside him in one of the theater's well-placed wheelchair spaces.
Harvey: My flight leaves for Oklahoma tonight. I need to tend to things downstairs. Are you good here?
It was a question he didn't have to ask. Leonora was in the director's chair for the formation of the show. She has been here doing a video conference media tour for the two weeks since this new show was announced. Leo smiles.
Harvey starts walking to the exit. Seconds later he hears Leo applaud. He doesn't have to turn around to know. Frank trusted in himself and his people. Everything would be fine.
He had to remind himself he was thinking about dancing.
Patrick Swayze would have loved that lift.

Downstairs, Harvey stands in another huge walk in closet. This one holds most of Harvey's tuxedos from big nights. The bright orange jacket worn for his match at Timebomb is framed on a high wall with #PureMagic beautifully engraved in a gold plate just below. In one form or another, he would bring Pure Magic II to the AW universe, but there were more pressing concerns on his mind this week.
The puzzle was complicated even before all the rage and talent of Max Daemon showed up. Dealing with 2 former champions in the ring last week was chaotic, and now Der Metzger had chosen to grace Harvey with his presence in the mix. Devil's Gate were a threat and they were now $800,000 richer. At least it was Kidsgrove's money they took. Metzger was dangerous but, thankfully predictable. A cowardly, backstabbing, jackass could always be trusted to do his thing in any situation. The Globe was still at the center, but Harvey's min was getting crowded. He only had to be one step ahead for a single moment, but he had to act soon. Somehow a little statue seemed heavier than the dancer above Frank's head.
Harvey knew his mind would have to be focused on his goals this week. He would make his show in OKC simple. Classic card magic and the bewildering charisma of Hot Dog Robinson. Nobody was more over with the crowd than that guy. Marx will blow the roof off the arena without lifting more than a finger.
Frank will soon open his rehearsals to select members of the press. Before he goes about preparing the walk-in for the media, Marx checks the AW Network.
Watching Beatriz Hauser call out the cruiser clash roster with fire in her eyes brings his world to a stop. Marx is one of the best illusionists in the world. He has climbed the ladder respectfully and paid his dues and takes the same approach to wrestling. It is beautifully clear Brick does not live in this world.
Quick cuts of her rolling over last week's opponent are shown and Marx feels like he's discovered a new kind of magic. She calls DBE a lightweight and a side show. Dutch is a cruiserweight and Harvey hadn't given him any thought until now. Harvey wasn't sure what would happen when the mini mystic came up against this determined, violent, well-toned wall of sexy, but it was something he had to see.
Harvey Marx is no lightweight, and The Big Ticket is a world class headliner. Very soon, after all the dust settled on the drama of Harvey's life and the peak of the pay per view season, he would prove that to Brick.
