Character Name: Masuda Teijin
Nickname: Teijin ("Tay-Gene")
Hometown: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 200 lbs.
Alignment: True Neutral
In-Ring Style: Strong Style w/ some high flying
Bio: Teijin was born into a fugue state, having a mother who was Japanese and a father of Hawaiian descent, which led to him holding dual citizenship with Japan and America. He grew up on the Big Island until his teens when the family uprooted for the big city life of Yokohama. Teijin looked to his uncle, the late Masuda Jubei, for guidance after his parents divorced. There he learned two things that molded him into the man he is today: toughness and a love of professional wrestling.
He has since disowned his father’s memory and everything he represented. Besides getting a share of uncle’s business in the years before Jubei’s death, he practically sewed himself to his uncle’s coattails until adulthood—a sponge learning every secret his uncle had for business and beyond.
Jubei’s death came at an inopportune time for young Teijin because he was on the cusp of getting big offers from the premier companies. His uncle’s death rocked their family to shambles. Even more, authorities investigating the infamous Masuda Corporation found multiple wrongdoings and illegal practices in their books. Enough violations to close the company’s books while seizing a large swath of its assets. Among those frozen accounts were funds Teijin and his large household depended upon. It led to two major down spirals in his young life. Something his entire family would rather blame on the world than themselves.
Those tears down his mother’s cheek revived a spirit of vengeance, what he believes inhabits a skull mask Teijin wears to the ring, extra attire he believes can rally his uncle spirit. While not a superstitious person, Teijin came to enjoy his mask, adopting the persona of Goryu, a vengeful spirit of an aristocrat martyred doing what he loved most: wrestling.
After months of torment, and a clinical defeat at the hands of one Anthony Leonhart, Teijin went off to nurse his injuries while seeking clarity. Time will tell if the counseling will turn him toward the light; or ultimately speaking, when he return to that same depth of despair wrought by the same family that pushed him to succeed in the first place. The single worst part of being a Masuda is that one can never not be one by blood—even when they deny it—bonded until they die. His endless search for healing has seen Masuda aligned with the Illumidaddy Wesley where he has been cited as both a troublemaker and muscle for Wesley's interests.
Teijin has gone downhill since the man he called a mentor and considered a brother had no choice but humble him before the Action masses at Chaos. It made him realize there are few avenues for a losing wrestler. He simply holds himself in disdain, living - even thriving - off the torment of his opponents with a loss meter growing by the week.
After multiple injuries threatened his career on the Clash roster, Masuda moved weight and focused on finesse on the plan of becoming a lighter, better-suited fighter for the hectic needs of the ring week-in-and-out. He also did so after the death of his biological father caused him to reignite the need to reenter the AW ring. This, he vows to make anew of the man he was destined to be. That all changed when Terra Walker made him almost cry on national TV. Now he has pledged an undying hatred for her schoolyard bully tactics to create an unceasing war against her career in AW.
Attire:
Entrance: Grungy black leather coat with skulls across the jacket and silvery, mirrored, spiky rhinestones
Ring Gear: Gun metal full-length tights and boots with carbon black kneepads showing silvery embossed skulls, and taped wrists.
Theme song: King Gnu - "Hikotei"
Pic Base: Sanada (NJPW platinum gear)
Entrance: Pulses of light flashbang the arena before going completely dark. “Kikotei” by King Gnu power chords bring a somber yet focused Masuda Teijin to the stage. Fans cheer as he makes his appearance on the ramp while lights remain low like a platinum dusk. Teijin wears a black-silver coat studded by miscellaneous bits of metal shaped like skulls and spines. Bursts of blinding white pyro fire off around him at the first break into its rapid chorus. He doesn't budge.
Ethan Miller: On his way to the ring by Yokohama, Japan… weighing 200 pounds… Masuda Teijin!
Tejin walks slow but assuredly to the apron but stops to take in the chorus. His messy mounds of golden hair glisten in the limelight. Teijin circles around for a flyby of the commentary table, letting his open coat ripple by them. He then hops onto the apron with a couple spins to where he’s leaning off ropes for a smug pose towards a disapproving audience. Ducking and stepping into the ring to the ring’s center, he begins a final presentation—exacerbated by boos and the song’s droning chorus—ends with him goading more hatred with summoning waves. He then disrobes to his ring gear and leans in his corner for everything to begin.
