“You know Karlie, I get the unmistakable feeling that you and me? We’re destined to do this the rest of our lives.”
“Revolution? That was fun, but it’s time to get back to business. And you of all people should know that once that bell rings? I get business done. The fact that my name is on that championship and not yours is proof positive of that.
I don’t know why it is that AW Management seems to want me to keep pounding the nail into Red White and Bruised’s coffin, but I won’t lie, there’s something that just tickles me a little bit every time I see that look of disappointment on your face, Karlie. Every time I take away something that you want, a part of me genuinely hopes that you'll start to realize just how far you've gotten on lies and luck. That you've failed upwards so long that you just can't do any better.
And yet here we are again. Maybe you’ll get me this time. After all, you’ve got former World Champion Odin Balfore in the draw, and I...don’t.
You’ve got this one in the bag, right?”
Teo chuckles, pushing his glasses slightly up the bridge of his nose.
“Oh Karlie, you poor sweet thing. I could be tag teaming with a bag of wet concrete, and it wouldn’t change one damned thing! Because you’re still you. You’re still a lying, manipulative piece of garbage who desperately grabs at any piece of attention she can get her hands on. A little girl who only wants her daddy to pat her on the head and tell her she did a good job, but who lacks the moral fortitude to follow through on her own convictions.
Every time it looks like you’re close to a breakthrough, every time it looks like I’ve finally knocked some sense into you, you slide right back into your same old habits. You just can’t look in the mirror and say that ‘Karlie Nash, you’re the problem’. You can do it, I promise. You’ll feel better.
But you won’t.
You refuse to learn from your own mistakes.
And history just keeps repeating itself.
Red White and Bruised turns from comedy to tragedy as we all realize that it’s never going to stop.
So I’m done trying to teach lessons, Karlie. At this point I’m nothing but an enabler. Me pinning you in that ring after a Blazing Knee? It’s not a threat. It’s an eventuality.”
Teo shrugs his shoulders in a resigned way, but as he does, the camera begins to slowly zoom outward, and it becomes clear that Teo is not just standing on a raised platform, but on top of a huge bulb. He holds his arms out to both sides, and with a snap of his fingers, it becomes illuminated, and across a barren landscape, a huge swath of light cuts a slice in the darkness, and for seemingly miles, but across it all, Teo’s silhouette can be seen, hundreds of feet tall.
“We all cast a big shadow when we’re in the spotlight, eh Odin?
Even the smallest man seems like a giant.
I hold no reverence for false gods, Odin. I have no respect for those who hold themselves above others, who manipulate and lie with every word to build a throne of lies!
Odin Balfore, you are a fraud! And if I am lying may you strike me down where I stand right now!!”
Teo holds his hands out expectantly, looking up to the sky, as if waiting for a lightning strike he knows will never come.
“Intimidation, Odin Balfore, is a powerful thing. People look at you with reverence, with fear. They look at you and speak your name in hushed tones, lest they incur the wrath of an angry god.
But Balfore, I don’t do fear. My voice does not quiet when I speak the truth, and I will never be intimidated by the likes of you.
People say I’m walking into a Lion’s den with a burger on my back, well I think I’ll be walking out with at least one Old lion’s scalp!
But why? I hear you asking? Why do you have such contempt, such hatred for Odin Balfore? What did he ever do to you?
But it’s not about that, is it? And you Balfore, you know what I mean.
It’s because this is who we are. It’s because we want the same thing. We want to fight and keep fighting until we find the sonuvabitch that ends us. We train each and every week, against every challenge...because we know that somewhere out there is our reaper.
So Odin, has that time come at last? Am I the one who finally writes your last chapter?
We both know you’re on borrowed time, and we both know you can’t keep doing this forever.
But at least I have the balls to say it.
Odin, I’m coming for that scalp. I want the world to see me topple Action Wrestling’s false god. I want it bad, big man...And all you’ve got to fall back on is Karlie goddamned Nash.”
The glint in Teo’s eye gives way to a smile, the same vicious, excited smile he wore when he won the Tag Team Championships.
“We all cast a big shadow when we’re in the spotlight, Odin… But it doesn’t make us any bigger once it’s gone.”
With that, Teo turns, hopping from the raised platform. As he leaps, the spotlight whirls directly in the camera, bathing the screen in a flash of light before fading to black.
As the scene comes into view, the viewer is greeted by a strange sight. In the foreground, the audience is greeted by Teo Blaze, his eyes shining behind a signature pair of red lenses, and a bright white leather jacket with an orange flame emblazoned on the back. Perhaps most strikingly, the gold of the Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship shines on his left shoulder.
