Dr. Reginald Royce has arrived to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. His patient will arrive via armored vehicle tomorrow afternoon, just in time to compete at Monday Night Clash. There was an incident at Devil's Gate Correctional Facility that requires added security to escort Der Metzger to and from the venue this week, and it will be a game-time decision if he is even cleared to compete. Dr. Royce enters the building through the players' entrance, armed only with a briefcase older than most wrestlers in Action Wrestling. He passes several members of the AW crew who have already started loading in for the first mega event of 2021. He stops a man who looks like he knows something. [DR. ROYCE] “Excuse me, young man. Would you be able to tell me where General Manager Alexander Pasternak is?” The young man has a lanyard on. His name is Darrell Watson. [DARRELL WATSON] “Mr. Pasternak won’t be arriving until tomorrow. His call-time is typically noon.” [DR. ROYCE] “Then why was I told to meet him here today?” [DARRELL WATSON] “I… well… who are you?” [DR. ROYCE] “I am Doctor Reginald Royce. I am the lead physician at Devil’s Gate Correctional Facility in Castle Rock, Maine. My patient is---” [DARRELL WATSON] “Der Metzger! Ooohhh! Now I recognize you. Your… patient… has been on a roll here. There’s been a lot of chatter around the water cooler about that guy. His beatdown on Magic Maddox was one of the highest rated segments on Clash all last year.” [DR. ROYCE] “I don’t doubt that. Der Metzger is a creature unlike anyone who has strolled these halls. No matter where he is needed, he will dominate. Tomorrow, he is up against Fortune. That name does not mean anything to me. Is he new here?” [DARRELL WATSON] “Very. He came to Action Wrestling for the World Cup Tournament. The guy made a clean sweep and won the whole thing. It was pretty impressive.” [DR. ROYCE] “Ah, yes. World Cup Tournament. I attempted to sign Der Metzger up for that, but the application was denied because he was already a member of the Action Wrestling roster.” [DARRELL WATSON] “Yeah, yeah. I heard about that. Der Metzger would have torn those guys apart had he been in the bracket. There were a lot of talented folks brought in for that. Fortune was fortunate enough to face three of them.” [DR. ROYCE] “I see what you did there. Do you have any footage of this… Fortune… that I could view? I like to give my patient as much information heading into a match as possible. He doesn’t do well with… surprises.” [DARRELL WATSON] “Sure. I work with the AW Network team. We actually finished up a highlight reel for Fortune to help introduce him to the AW fans. He’s been absent since winning the tournament, so they want to make him seem like a big deal right away.” [DR. ROYCE] “If they think this match against Der Metzger is to be used to put Fortune over, they should rethink that notion. Der Metzger is second to no man.” [DARRELL WATSON] “I don’t think that was the intent at all, sir. My theory is this match was created because of Der Metzger’s exclusion from the World Cup Tournament.” [DR. ROYCE] “I had not considered that. It’s admirable of Action Wrestling to make it up to my patient like this. Hopefully that… Dionysus… stays clear of Der Metzger tomorrow. He had no business defending Magic Maddox against a few weeks ago. But if he is brave enough to step up to Der Metzger again, that will be the last mistake he makes.” [DARRELL WATSON] “I’ve been wondering something for a while, doc. You seem well-versed in this business. Were you involved in it before bringing Der Metzger here?” [DR. ROYCE] “Somewhat. Three decades ago, a patient came to me after his wife passed away. There were too many unknowns about her death and he had no memory of it. Through some… experimental therapies… we discovered that he was directly responsible for her death, having been the driver of the vehicle that she died in. She was flung from the vehicle and died upon impact with a tree. He had no memory of the incident or that he personally buried her body in their own backyard.” [DARRELL WATSON] “OH MY GOD! REALLY?!” [DR. ROYCE] “Unfortunately. And the connection to pro wrestling was that he was a few years into his career in New York, wrestling primarily throughout the five boroughs. In getting to know him, I became a fan of pro wrestling and have been ever since. So when the opportunity came for me to work with Der Metzger, I paid all expenses to bring him here from Kiel, Germany. There is so much more to him than Action Wrestling has seen. [DARRELL WATSON] “If you scratch the surface, you’ll only get more surface.” [DR. ROYCE] “That is true. Der Metzger will only reveal as much as he approves of. That is why the videos of prior victims have been redacted.” [DARRELL WATSON] “I dig it, doc. The whole deal. Hey, while you’re here, I probably have a video of Fortune to show you…” Darrell Watson pulls his laptop out of his backpack and opens it up, sorting through folders until he finds the Fortune Highlight Reel. His victories over Nio, Whale Helmet and finally Nostrova are featured. All flash. No filler. Dr. Royce seems impressed. When the video ends, he scratches his chin inquisitively. [DR. ROYCE] “Okay, okay, okay. He seems like he will be a formidable challenge for Der Metzger… but then… don’t they all? In the end, they are all the same. One by one, they are more alike than they could ever know.” [DARRELL WATSON] “I agree. Der Metzger is something new here. He will be a great champion one day.” [DR. ROYCE] “Indeed. You mentioned your work with the AW Network. Would you mind recording a video for me? I would like to give some thoughts on my patient’s match tomorrow night.” [DARRELL WATSON] “Sure! Any content is good content!” Darrell Watson reaches into his backpack and pulls out a handheld camera. [DARRELL WATSON] “Right here or somewhere else?” [DR. ROYCE] “Right here is fine.” Darrell Watson nods his head and we… are… recording... Fortune was built to be a professional wrestler. He is the embodiment of this sport. There is no doubt about that. From what I have seen, he is deserving of being the AW World Cup Champion. One has to wonder how fortunate he would have been had Der Metzger been involved in the tournament. Fortune wears a mask, much like Der Metzger. Does he do it to hide his identity from the fans who cheer him on? That is rather selfish of him. Der Metzger wears a mask to protect others. He is a noble man. He is an honorable man. Maybe not on the surface, but underneath all the chaos is order. Fortune is a man of many talents. I’m told he is a philosopher, poet, thief, magician, lover, adventurer. None of those will matter once his next title is added to the list: victim. Der Metzger is going to do unspeakably terrible things to that man tomorrow night and you will all watch it unfold. Fortune will be powerless to stop the physical advances of Der Metzger. Once that opening bell sounds, a beast will be set free and he will not stop fighting until he is the last man standing. Der Metzger is the greater good. You just have to believe it. Fortune is not a machine who needs to be fed. He is a wounded animal about to be slaughtered by a predator. His misfortune was having his name written on a white board next to Der Metzger’s for this upcoming episode of Monday Night Clash. Fortune will be out of time once he meets up with Der Metzger. He had a great day when he competed in the World Cup Tournament. Bravo to his efforts. He surely made his friends and family proud. After it all occurred, what became of Fortune? Nobody even noticed he was gone. Fortune is not as memorable as he had hoped. He is not an icon. He is not an immortal. He is a man who became lucky enough to outlast three other unknowns. At the end of the day, he was undefeated and moved on to… nothing. Four weeks later… he is Der Metzger’s next victim. Fortune is not comparable to any of Der Metzger’s prior victims. There is not enough known about this man to get a good comparison. Believe me. I tried. I searched all of the files and videos. I failed to match him up with a prior victim to keep up the usual routine, so instead, you get this. Fortune is not a friend of Der Metzger’s. Surely he could have predicted that Der Metzger is going to do bad things to him in front of all of his adoring fans in Los Angeles. Over twenty-three thousand people will be cheering for Fortune as he is mauled by a bear of a man. Fortune will attempt to set Der Metzger free. Nobody wanted that more than Der Metzger. He feels trapped in his mask… in Devil’s Gate… and even in his own skin. To be released on the world in his truest form would be to reduce the world to ashes. Fortune sees things that are not there. Will he see the good inside of Der Metzger? I know it’s there… but I know more about Der Metzger than he knows about himself. When you scratch the surface, you’ll only get more surface. Der Metzger is prepared to claw the surface to get what he needs. Fortune has faith in what he is and who he is. He has such hope to make up for all of the things he has been colled during his time roaming this world: delusional, heretic, thief, scoundrel, cheat, false prophet, devil, reaper. Maybe he and Der Metzger have more in common than they realize. Fortune wants to be loved and admired by the people. Der Metzger wants the same thing. He does not feel that he deserves their affection just yet. One day? Possibly. All in due time, I suppose. Until that time, Der Metzger will continue to do business his own way. Fortune is next in the long line of victims for Der Metzger here in Action Wrestling. He has already caused great pain to The Batesville Boyz, Claire Hawkins, and Magic Maddox. Dionysus will get what’s coming to him sooner than later. One has to wonder what the endgame is. Fortune should bring the World Cup Championship with him to Monday Night Clash and put it on the line if he is brave enough. Fear of Der Metzger is natural. I’m afraid of the man, and I know him better than anyone. I know what’s lurking and my experimental therapies are helping to protect you. Fortune wears a mask for himself. Der Metzger wears a mask for all of you. Keep that in mind as you try to dig deep and figure out more about these two men. Their stories have not been told to the upmost of their abilities, and for very different reasons. Fortune will not be the hero of this tale, but it’s very likely that Der Metzger will be. That fate is his to decide. Until then, he will continue to cause great harm to his opponents. Mental. Physical. Emotional. Niemand wird überleben. Die szene wird schwarz. |
