So maybe it isn't essential, it's not like Im bleeding after two whole losses, but jokes aside I am feeling kinda down (shitty day anyway with school and work). And I'm just thinking too much. Like this year consecutively, I've taken more losses everywhere than I had since like 2012, and I'm now second guessing myself hard because I knew it was a long shot that I'd win the 10-man battle royale.
But like, I feel like I got stomped, and now I'm questioning everything. Like how I can just brush that off and move on?
Was it not the right move to debut with Downfall anyway since I haven't been using him as a main and establishing his voice is like starting over from scratch?
Has roleplaying as a whole just passed me by?
Is there anything I can do to improve?
I can't ever look at anything I've written with object satisfaction because it's never quite what I had in my head but... I always wanna know what I can do to be better, ya know?

Something to keep in mind:
AW has a very high skill level when it comes to the talent pool. I wouldn't sweat a loss on a huge multi-man match.

So let me start this by saying I'm an open and vocal fan of yours. I know how losing feels and would probably be feeling the exact same way you are now if I had lost this match (I was even braced for it and had told several people I expected to be taken out in short order). I'm sorry if that doesn't help as the guy who won the match, but as the guy who won the match, I felt how you do one week ago.
You're an excellent addition to this fed, and you've got an excellent character. That said, there was one big flaw in your RP: you did a response shoot. Beyond being a personal pet peeve of myself and a few others, it just doesn't help you with the judges. Several of the top writers here won't even read their opponents' RPs until they've posted there's just to avoid temptation. You're an incisive enough writer you don't need to come at me off my own words - tear me up in your own.
Clear that up, and you're golden. Can't wait for you to kick my ass in Trios.

Yeah that was my big takeaway too. There was a lot of response in there. You’re fantastic and will be challenging for belts for a long time.

I'll just echo what the others said: that Battle Royal was a meat grinder (my expectations were 'as long as I make it to the top five and get a story out of it I'll be happy') so don't feel too down about the outcome of that. The response shoot may have hurt you (I'm not a fan of them personally and while I couldn't tell you for certain if it effects judging, if Howard and Lissie says it can be a negative factor I believe it). I thought your rp was great otherwise; especially your use of the tarot cards as a delivery system for your shoot. You're an excellent writer from a techinical standpoint, and I've liked the segments and matches you've done for the shows.

I don't read a lot of "main roster" stuff but if you listened to my appearance on the cast you know I'm a fan. You're feeling exactly how I did post Havoc, I wrote by far the best RP I've ever done with this character and looked like shit in that match. The talent level is so high here that everyone is gonna have those moments cause there's simply not enough room to give everyone the shine they deserve every time but I think if you just stick with it you'll be a force that can't be denied. I also think that working hard and being consistent regardless of the W/L will get you opportunies.

I can't ever look at anything I've written with object satisfaction because it's never quite what I had in my head but... I always wanna know what I can do to be better, ya know? Brother, I feel the fuck out of the "down due to loss trends" shit right now. Look at Dandy's total run. For a LONG GODDAMN TIME I could count on one hand how many not angled losses I'd taken with that gimmick, but since Evolution, I think I've had like 8 legit matches and maybe won one of them. It's a kick in the fuckin' dick to be entirely real with you. I hate losing. I'd rather be legit punched in the face than lose most of the time. BUT... the thing to remember here in AW is that there are so goddamn many stellar writers and characters and remarkable challenges to face and overcome, and in all of that, you're going to take some tough losses and you're going to have some less than fun moments even when you're fucking killing it. My last Dandy RP was my favorite Dandy RP I've written in a long time. I lost the match. Does it mean that wasn't a fun as fuck RP that I still know I can be proud of? Nope. It just wasn't the best RP in that match, and Ash brought goddamn fire. You just gotta keep in mind that sometimes it's not that you fucked up or failed or were bad, but just that someone hit the bell a little harder or shined just a shade brighter. Doesn't mean you suck or are on the wrong track at all. You're doing a great job here. Don't go reinventing the wheel. Be confident, find a grove again and club some fuckers like baby seals. <3

I've been writing since 1997 and had to re-invent myself several times over. Never think you don't belong. I'd have to read the RP again to see if you were response shooting (we had to read nearly 50 RPs for Clash 100), but if you indeed were response shooting that definitely will affect things with us judges in a negative way. We have belts for response shooting, but the US title isn't one of them.
That said, don't beat yourself up for doing response shooting or think that will affect you negatively in booking.
Also, keep this in mind for losses, and I've been repeating this many times over during majority of Action Wrestling's lifespan: you don't always lose because of something you did wrong. Oftentimes you lose a match because the winner of your match did something that we liked more. What I mean by that is that we judge the winner of the match. We don't look at RPs and say ok this guy loses because of reason X. We judge the winner. That's not to say that we don't have pros and cons for each RP we read.
It's just you shouldn't always think you did something wrong when you lose. You could write the best RP of your life and your opponent may still have done certain things that just stood out to us more which does not take away from your RP or the quality of your writing.

Also, I'll echo something else already said. The talent level here is brutal. I would have a tough time if I was RPing here. Sometimes it takes people a while to figure out the style and start doing well. My recommendation is if you're worried about your skill level to get into a feud. Find someone who you think your character could match up well that's not already doing something that could bring out the best in you and feud with them.
In a feud, wins and losses are not that big of a deal until the last match of the feud. Feuds can take the pressure off of the competitive aspect and allow you to find your place and your flow here before you focus on a belt. Plus either winning a lot or looking strong in a feud can lead to title shots. Also, we're suckers for feuds and angles in AW.
I could sit here and name multiple big names in AW who were built on angles and feuds.
I'll also point out about feuds is that unless you're Goldberg, people aren't going to remember you winning a ton of matches. They remember your writing being great and they'll remember any big feuds or storylines you were in. If you think back to your time in e-fedding or when watching real wrestling, you'll find that when you think about most wrestlers, you remember their big moments and their storylines, feuds, angles, etc.

When I joined AW I was almost completely new to e-fed (I had a two week stint like 18+ years ago). Getting in to a feud massively helped me out. I really struggled dealing with loses (I lost a fair bit), but now I don’t think people think of my win loss record they think of my storylines and character work.
