I know there are a few readers here so here's a thread to talk about it. Some general questions:
Still a collector or are you a lapsed fan?
Usual method of consumption (do you buy single issues, wait for collections, or read online)?
Is there an actual comic shop in your area? If so, tell us about it.
What are you currently reading?
Favorites (runs, creators, characters, etc)?
If you were to try to get a new person into comics, what books would you recommend?
Superman: great hero or greatest hero?

I used to get all my comics through nefarious online downloading means, but within the last couple years I have been getting into purchasing actual paper. Single issues when I was younger was the bane of my existence, it's like ya read it in ten minutes and wait another week or month to continue the story. That all changed when an actual shop opened in my town, literally three blocks from work. I've got to know the owner pretty well, he's hooked me up with some hard to find action figures and that's where my loyalty lies now, lol. I think he leans more on like Magic cards and stuff but I'm there every Wednesday, most times before the boxes are even open so I get my pick of the land.
Currently reading Avengers (Moon Knight is the bad guy and collecting powers, it's bomb ass), TMNT, DC Death Metal, Batman: Three Jokers, Black Widow, Thor, Bill and Ted, and X of Swords (we missed the second story somehow so he's looking for it). I think that's it.
Infinity Gauntlet is obviously the be-all end-all for me. I also really like The Long Halloween, I shit on DC a lot but that doesn't include Batman. Batman rules. Black and white Mirage TMNT also very worth seeking out.
I'd start someone light with their interests. Like my oldest, he's getting the Transformers/Ghostbusters crossovers because he fuckin' looooves Ghostbusters. A Transformers/Back to the Future crossover came out last week I picked up for him because he loooooves Back to the Future but he's getting a little annoyed with the Transformers. Can't blame him. There's a book out there for almost every fandom, from there sky's the limit.
Superman sux

I unfortunately am lapsed from the small interest I had in comics back in college, and a bit in the 90's, but I had a fascination with 2000AD's brand from, of course, the Judge Dredd progs to few others - with such names to point out and suggest: ACE Trucking Co., Rogue Trooper and ABC Warriors

Have to admit I'm a lapsed fan. When I was I was usual a single issue buyer, and I'm not currently reading anything, all time favorites, G.I. Joe, Punisher, and Conan the Barbarian.
I guess if I were to recommend something to a new reader I guess it would be Punisher.
Superman is overrated.

I'm a little bit of a lapsed fan due to A) just moving to Washington and not finding an estsblished close by comic book store before COVID hit and then, well, COVID π I had resorted to online reading comics on pirating sites.
The current state of Marvel and DC is so insular and hard to understand, it doesn't feel like continuity means shit anymore. I do like individual series. Of Marvel, for example, Immortal Hulk is one of the most brilliant takes I've ever read, and a horror-themed Hulk book with so much deep dive into the character's history is frankly awesome.
Most of my fix is in graphic novels, and I've been heavy into East of West, Saga, Sex Criminals, and Fraction's Jimmy Olsen.

DUDE! SEX CRIMINALS!!!!!!
I'm a semi-active collector, and I buy almost exclusively trade paperbacks, unless I'm getting single issues from indie publishers.
Currently collecting Sandman. Just got all of Preacher. I liked Transmet until I found out what a creep Warren Ellis is. I'm on the lookout for like 3 more Amalgam Age books, have flirted with Secret Six, and I'm kinda into DC's Doomsday Clock (X-over DC/Watchmen). I also love anything under the Elseworlds imprint. Indie stuff includes Miserable Americans by Evan Derian; Lackluster World by Eric Adams; and various titles from Twilight Star studios out of Springfield, Ohio.
I buy almost all of my stuff from Super-Fly Comics, my local retailer, because I like the guys who run it for having never treated me like a girl. (Seriously, the comic fandom in general is so backward and regressive sometimes.) When we're not having a pandemic, I like going to cons -- always in cosplay, because I'm a dork -- and finding new titles there.
Red Son Superman or Gods and Monsters Superman (son of Zod) are best Superman.

The current state of Marvel and DC is so insular and hard to understand It's sad that even while supeheroes have become such a huge part of pop culture the books they came from have such a small audience the companies create these maxi-series and events that are deliberately dense and convoluted in order to bleed it dry. The idea of the crossover or company wide event isn't new, but the disparity between the mediums of comics and film/tv is very stark.

Three Jokers cannot possibly be in canon, and it didn't really ever deliver what it promised about WHY there were three Jokers and what, exactly that meant, but I have to say, it went a long way towards undoing and redeeming The Killing Joke (which even Alan Moore hated in retrospect.) So, for what it was from the current DC I'd have to say it was good.

I read walking dead before it was a tv series, loved that shit. Gutted with how they ended the comics though

I read walking dead before it was a tv series, loved that shit. Gutted with how they ended the comics though In hindsight itβs kind of the perfect ending. Itβs a grey indictment on how far Rick Grimes dragged the world out of the ooze. Yeah, they had civilization and a great quality of life, but with that also comes the sniveling little shits like Sebastian. Itβs bittersweet.

So, for what it was from the current DC I'd have to say it was good. Three Jokers could maybe slot just before Endgame, so you have both Bruce and Joker forgetting it due to the memory loss related to the ending of that but honestly with Death Metal and the weird timelines surrounding it. Flash, Batman, JL Dark and Superman all had tie-ins around Justice Doom War which saw several characters in literal multiple places at the same time the Doom Signal went up, then had stuff continue happening with those characters well beyond the timeline even though the War dovetailed right into Death Metal. Like. City of Bane and everything through Joker War ostensibly happens in the gap between Justice League #32 and #38. Somehow. Also uh, Doomsday Clock is a whole mess. Anyway, DC canon is a disaster right now and honestly "Perpetua's whole deal fucked up the timelines" isn't the worst way to handwave it. And Three Jokers isn't the worst culprit for it.
