I'm not saying this to just sound like a dick or something, but legit, it's sorta adjacent to what my music taste was in likkkkke 6th grade I wanna say when I thought Disturbed was GOAT, because it was the age of Limewire which made for listening to a flood of surface level ass shit that was already super accessible.
I won't just drop the shit I listen to on a regular basis now, because I think expanding a music palette from Midwest boy friendly rock isn't about jumping from like A to Q.
Go just like one or two steps further on that line between super accessible to you and almost...sorta...not really indie. This means The White Stripes, Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, The Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age, The Vines early shit, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Royal Blood, Death from Above, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, Eagles of Death Metal, The Fratellis, Silversun Pickups, Cage the Elephant to name some. Then you can go back with 90s shit like Primus, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.

What're you after, my friend? I listen to rock/metal mostly. A lot of melodic/symphonic metal but that has to be spot on or itβs a bust, usually lol

Going back to what Jordan was pitching because that's more my cup of tea I'd also add: Band of Skulls and Kasabian. Some Jack White's other stuff is pretty decent too but I think it's more of an acquired taste, Dead Weather are a bit more unorthodox but still pretty beast. Raconteurs are lyrically beautiful but it's all still preyty much just Jack White, if you don't like the White Stripes then they likely won't appeal to you.
The Strokes are pretty good, The Editors too. Arctic Monkeys are one of my favourites, along with Death Ramps and The Last Shadow Puppets but The last 2 again are more just 'if you like the Arctic Monkeys, why not try' The Verve were savage back in the day too. While it's not gonna be for everybody I'd pitch Gerry Cinnamon too but he's 2000% Scottish and from one of the rougher parts so I'd imagine it's hard to understand if you're not from these parts. I could sit and pitch music like this all damn day lol.
Moving more towards rock, I always liked Papa Roach, they still make what I'd class as half decent and the Foo Fighters, particularly the 'Wasting Light' album.

I will always rep Grandson as long as he makes music (First full album coming in Dec, Squee!)
For your taste, I recommend the 80's metal-inspired trio Ningen Isu because they're growing more and more popular; also, the language barrier is almost irrelevant to their dedication to classic heavy metal.
Two cover bands too - bc nobody expects cover bands in a recommendation thread! - go for The Melodica Bros and First to Eleven as they cover metal and rock

this thread needs more Ramones sex pistols, and bad religion and dead kennedys
For English techno dance etc you need new order and the pet shop boys and possibly Elvis Costello
for rap, I'm old school and anything made before Tupac and biggie died is mostly good everything else after that is posers except maybe 50 cent
for country start about 1930 or so and stop right after garth brooks

I'm not really a good person to ask about music. On the one hand, I've listened to a ton; on the other hand, one minute I'll listen to something like Ratt or The Hu, then switch over to something like Pete & Bas, immediately hop over to the Yakuza soundtrack, then back over to easycore shit.

For writing inspiration, Rancid really helps me hone in on Downfall's "voice" (and there's a meme in there somewhere about Out Come The Wolves, but I'll leave that to Bacchus), but also Black Flag, Pennywise and Suicide Machines. Basically to get me in the mindset of fading crustpunk that still carries it's rebellious spirit and fuck-you snarl.
I fall more on the elder statesmen emo spectrum of Brand New and Circa Survive, those always get my writing juices flowing, especially for CD.
And, to get into super angry shoot mode, Eminem's early shoots on Canibus and Everlast are a masterclass.

Dude, dude, dude... try King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The Album Fishing For Fishies is brilliant. Sounds like a silly parody band or something, but they are super mellow and cool...
I think so anyway...

I think so anyway... You could probably put any King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on and be wowed. I think the best overall introduction to them is any of their KEXP live sets on youtube.

I don't use Spotify for reasons, but I generally listen to anything produced by Madlib or the Alchemist, or Def Jux when writing.
