Hey guys because I'm interested in horror movies and love watching them I was wanting to get your opinion on some horror movies. I was wondering if you could list me a movie you consider a classic, a movie that's overrated, a movie that's underrated, your favorite series and your favorite (never get tired of watching). I will start it off of course.
Classic: Halloween
I know this is obviously clique but this was literally the first horror movie I got into and got sucked into why horror movies are fun. I would say it started my obsession. I hated horror movies as a kid and stayed away until freshman year of high school when we watched this in a class I was in and was sucked in instantly.
Underrated: Sinister
I was a huge fan of this film because it was a thriller that turns into horror and I love movies that have an interesting plot. I don't want to spoil anything but it just has a specific chilling moment that literally gave me chills just watching it. It was perfectly executed and seemed realistic, wasn't too gimmicky. The interesting plot sucked me in and the horror kept me watching and wanting even more. Ps. I know this got a sequel but it just didn't have the same affect.
Overrated: Child's Play
Not sure if it just was I was never scared of dolls or thought they were creepy but just didn't hit me. Thought it was definitely fun but I would definitely say Chucky is on the lower end of the iconic horror icons people associate with horror films.
Favorite Series: Nightmare on Elm Street
I am a huge fan of these movies. I own all of these movies and think they are just fun movies with an interesting origin story(s). Although they are very out there with the villain origin, I think Freddy does a great job of adding humor that catches you at times you should be on the edge of your seat which for me adds to the enjoyment of the horror moments. Great writing for the original Freddy films and unfortunately the newer remakes just didn't have that same feeling but still my favorite series just because I love the dynamic the Freddy character adds to the films.
Never Gets Old: Cabin in the Woods
This movie I absolutely love and will never get tired of. Love the almost spoof approach to it and think it works perfectly. Don't want to ruin anything but the movie does a great job of working it into the plot and story that always leaves me having a great time, even watching by myself or with friends.
What are yours?

I’ll probably get more on this thread later but my classic pick has to be the original Dawn of the Dead. The atmosphere is fucking uncanny and there’s just a distinct loss of hope along the way. It’s aged extremely well too even though it’s a little cheesy too. It ticks all the right boxes for me.

Classic: Original It.
Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise is downright frightening and scary, and still holds up today.
Underrated: The Hills Have Eyes.
While most probably wouldn't consider it horror, but A family being targeted and hunted by a family of cannibals make or a rather horrifying viewing experience.
Overrated: Insidious.
complete shit series.
Favorite Series: Friday the 13th.
Jason is the man.
Never Get Old: Halloween.
could have put this under Classic or favorite series, Micheal Myers is a horror Icon, and the original never gets old still a great watch after all these years.

Classic: Halloween (Original) this one is the granddaddy of them all. A lot of horror movies do not age well or aren’t considered as scary as they used to be, but I’d argue that Halloween’s emphasis on a simple, uncomplicated story that focused on suspense and atmosphere rather than over the top gore, shock, or special effects keeps it edge of your seat stuff even to modern audiences. Also, that music.
Underrated: Exorcist 3- the movie that wasn’t supposed to be an exorcist movie. This movie is fascinating because it was directed by the author, and it shows with the dialogue. I don’t even want to say too much except go watch it.
Overrated: Exorcist 1- Hold on! I’m not saying it’s not a good movie, in fact it’s iconic, but it’s kind of a victim of its own reputation. So much of the movie has been parodied and referenced that it’s almost impossible for it to live up to its own reputation. Part of the scariness comes from the unpredictability, and it kind of makes it a Movie more fun to discuss than rewatch.
Favorite Series: Evil Dead. I mean, come on, look me in the boomstick and tell me you don’t get it.
Never gets Old: Is it cheating to put Army of Darkness here? Because it’s one of the most rewatchable movies ever made. I’ll include a backup pick and say that I could watch Jason X over and over with the intention of pointing and laughing at it. Scares suffer from diminishing returns, but beating a camper with another camper in a sleeping bag is always funny.

Classic: Night of the Living Dead
Underrated: Pet Cemetery (the original).
Overrated: Halloween. Just not enough chaos in it for me. Myers was a dweeb. Had high hopes for it but just never could get into it.
Favorite Series: Nightmare on Elm Street.
Never gets Old: Friday the 13th.

Classic: Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Wooooo baby what a masterpiece of terror. Grounded in reality, believable to a fault. No zombie men or ghosts or anything. Just a family of fucked up people that do fucked up things.
Underrated: Paranormal Activity
Sirs let's get one thing straight here, if you're gonna go into a scary movie to puff your chest and tell people how not scary it is - ya fuckin' lose my respect. You have to let yourself be scared, and the Paranormal Activity series is the perfect cross-section of the fandom. If you let yourself get lost in the films, they are scary as hell and wonderful. Even if I think jumpscares are lazy and the entire franchise was built around them, I know what I am getting into. I don't want to see some psychological horror and get met with a jumpscare, fuck you filmmakers
Overrated: Halloween
All of these movies suck and you know it. Constant copouts of "Michael is dead, jk" without a magical force at all. Laurie Strode, considered the best final girl ever, has been rewritten and retconned so much I can hardly keep the story straight anymore. Don't get me started on Season of the Witch, a black eye on cinema in general even if I sort of love it because it's that bad.
Favorite Series: Saw
I could see this coming as a surprise to most given my e-fed character history, but the Saw movies are the perfect combination of gore, dread and downright silliness. The later ones get wacky but the first four or five just tick all the boxes.
Never Gets Old: Trick 'r Treat
A top 5 movie for me regardless of genre, the interweaving story and Halloween spirit in Trick 'r Treat is seasonal viewing for any movie fan, horror or no.

alright.. I love horror movies but I want to give some love to horror movies that haven't been listed yet.. so
Classic- The Toxic Avenger- What? It launched a studio that's made B movies for over 30 years. Seems pretty classic to me. Also super gory and enjoyable.
Underrated- The Sleepaway Camp series- the first one is well regarded because of the twist ending but the sequels don't get the love they deserve for just being fun 80s slasher flicks
Overrated- The remake of Nightmare on Elm Street- I don't care if no one likes it.. it's still overrated. It's that bad. Fuck Michael Bay.
Series- The Hatchet series. Just pure fun.. you may be sensing a theme.. I've watched a lot of horror movies.. horror movies don't frighten me.. I watch them because I love the entertainment value.
Never Gets Old- The Burning. Yes Harvey Weinstein is a massive douchenozzle. But this was a great movie.

Classic: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre It took me a long time to finally watch this movie, but holy crap does it hold up. When it comes to slashers, I think they’re sort of a mixed bag, and a lot of them haven’t aged well. Not this one – this one made me grip the couch white-knuckle with terror at age 28. This is a horror classic.
Underrated: Trick R Treat If you haven’t watched this, do yourself a favor and watch it this Halloween. Talk about an overlooked masterpiece.
Overrated: Friday the 13th pt 2 -> on I think I’m the polar opposite of CD’s opinion on this and Halloween. I see Halloween is a landmark horror movie with maybe the most iconic horror villain of all time. Jason Vorhees is not Michael Myers – he doesn’t have that primal and unexplainable evil that makes The Shape such a terrifying killer. Jason is a bland zombie with an above average design whose movies consist of contrived chase sequences and almost no odds because basically nothing can kill undead Jason until the end. He sucks. No personality, no memorable kills, just nothing. Pamela Vorhees is infinitely more interesting killer than her son.
Favorite Series: SAW Some of these are really, really bad but the first film is a masterpiece and a few sequels are pretty satisfying. I also have a soft spot for these as they came out when I was in HS and I saw most in theaters.
Never Gets Old: The Blair Witch Project This is probably my favorite horror movie of all. What makes the Blair Witch Project so terrifying is how many ways you can read into the movie: is the witch real or is it purely the paranoid fear of a group of lost hikers who can’t accept they’re doomed by their own lack of preparation? This is a movie that trusts the intelligence of its viewers by showing rather than telling, demanding you pay attention and rewarding close and multiple viewings as off-handed details mentioned in the beginning reveal themselves as important in one of the most scary finales I’ve seen in a horror film. This is mood, moment, and everything that makes good horror. This is what every subpar found footage movie has tried to accomplish and what A24 is now coming close to recapturing.

Oh man, my favorite part of The Blair Witch Project is the theory that looking for “the witch” was just an elaborate ruse by Mike and Josh to lure Heather into the woods and kill her. Totally changes the viewing of the movie tbh.
